I am curious as to what everyone's playing right now for multiplayer shooter ?

I have been PC gaming since the mid 90's, and go back to Quake 2 CTF days as the classic, and then BF1942 came out and was hooked on that series, BF4 being the most recent shooter I truly played for awhile.

I also play WoW, and have been with World of Warcraft since launch, and during Legion I was hooked for those 2 years, not really playing any other games, and been playing BfA expansion now since launch nonstop. But I am not as happy with WoW and BfA right now, so need a breather.

I bought three games this past week;

- Star Wars Battlefront II = Quick review, sort of a letdown, it doesn't play like Battlefield 4 or like a Battlefield game. Vehicles aren't really in the game the same way as in like BF4, and just the whole gameplay seems a bit watered down and not a true Battlefield style game. Why didn't they just make it BF4 but with Star Wars skins and theme. I don't see me playing this. I want a Star Wars game, where I can walk up to a X-Wing fighter, hop in, and pilot it up into the sky, and then keep flying into space and pick a space battle to join in, and then fly back down to the planet and help the battle on the ground. All in the same game map, no load screen seemless
Oh yeah, third person view should not even be an option in a shooter game. It's a FIRST PERSON Shooter. This isn't WoW or Skyrim camera type game.

- Destiny 2 = I bought this at launch and played the single player story, it was pretty fun. But haven't touched it since, like what a year and half later ? Came back this week to it, but I guess I need to pay for some expansions or something to be able to play it current ? But I will say the feel of the game, the shooting and aiming, and movement is really smooth and very well done. I like the feel of the game, and the graphics are pretty good too. I just recall being turned off by the confusing multiplayer aspect, is it a team shooter or MMO ? How do you chat with people and form a group to run dungeons or whatever they're called? Is there a web based browser to see a list of multiplayer matches to pick and chose which to join?

- Battlefield V = I have always liked BF games, last B game I bought was Battlefield 4, and I really enjoyed my time with it, an improved BF3. I skipped BF1 because of WoW. And I like the WW2 setting, so BFV was a must buy. So far it's pretty cool, but not blowing me away LOL. The gameplay feels a bit different than older BF games, and BFV needs more large open maps for tank battles, and aircraft carriers to have big dogfights. These smaller maps with few vehicles sucks for a Battlefield game. It's all about the vehicles for me, the tanks and P51 Mustangs. And not just 4 tanks or 6 planes, the maps should have dozens of tanks, and squadrons of fighter planes. Not a fan of the snowy maps, much prefer the look of the green summer maps. Game feels a bit choppy or laggy to me, like the gameplay is different.

- New Doom = I bought this awhile ago, but haven't played it since 2017, and the Arcade mode is crazy fun, I will say if you want just to blew some steam for 15 minutes or half hour, and want fast smooth action in your face, Doom has this in spades. Still a super cool shooter.

Off topic, but I am turned off by some games having these long load start screens. I don't mean slow to load due to hardware, I have a brand new Samsung SSD and 16GB RAM, running Windows 10 Pro. I mean like Battlefield or StarWars Battlefront and even Doom to degree. Once you click the icon to launch the game, and the time it takes to finally get to the playable screen, seems very long. Battlefront II, has this long intro screen you can't escape away from. Even BFV has a somewhat long intro screen that you can't skip.

Off topic 2, does BFV have web browser multiplayer list ? Can I just avoid launching the game, and go to a web browser based list like I could with BF 4 ?

PlanetSide 2 is my go-to shooter, if I have time. In spite of its age, no other game quite has PS2's grand scale and black-magic netcode, where you can see 100+ people on 3 sides in a single fight, or where you can just take a long road trip in a convoy to another front.

Based on what you said, you might actually like it. It's vehicle-centric, and loading screens are rare since there's no matchmaking/lobbies between battles. You just drive, fly or respawn to get to the next battle. It's also free to play, and takes like 30 seconds to launch.

That being said, the game has a very steep learning curve. Basically everyone in-game is a salty veteran, and you have to play with all them since there's no real matchmaking.

I'm terrible at MP-FPS games. Awful. My deaths double my kills. Titanfall, the first one, was my only game I had a handle on. Then I got real good. TF2 came out and I was garbage all over again. Doom '16 isn't bad either.

But yea, you guys that can actually hold your own in these games make me envious.

I suck in BFV, always getting sniper killed. And in Destiny 2 I'm ok, but easily sniped.

I wish there were more CoOp style shooter games. Play a story based FPS but allow a buddy to play along side.

Would like to see servers that banned snipers. Give players the option if they'd like to play a server with no sniping.

Back up to like 10 years ago. Half Life style game. Two teams against each other. Each side had a captain that saw the screen RTS style. He could drop the ammo nodes and stuff for your team. You could upgrade your weapons. The other side played an alien that could morph.

Forget the name of it. That game was a freaking blast.

i'm liking WW3 even though i suck ass at it.. wish i was 15 years younger but oh well.. only downside is starting the game takes longer than normal since it basically loads the entire game into memory. but i usually use the time get get a drink and hop right into a match when i get back.

battlefield 2142 had it. but that's about the only one i can remember. for some reason i keep wanting to say quake wars enemy territories had it as well but i don't think it did.

Overwatch. I seem to keep playing only this game. I bought a few other shooters in the past couple of years but I seem to just play this one.

I have been playing Quake champions and a little Overwatch.

I also play destiny 2 but more as a single player game.

Natural Selection was the name of the mod.

They eventually released NS2 as a standalone but it's pretty much dead these days.

Anywho - MP FPS of late have been Blops 4 or Quake Champions.

my first MP shooter was bf1942, then the DC mod. I've been playing bfv and fortnite BR. I was playing pubg but replaced it with fortnite cause pubg became too slow for me. fortnite is tough for new players in solo. but there are more casual modes to play like 50v50 and squads. and the game is free. insurgency sandstorm is another one to look at. theres older games that are still popular like rainbow six siege and they are still updating it. since your a bf fan, squad is worth looking into. its not fast paced. you dont have to be really good at shooters to enjoy it. theres alot of voice communication with people in your squad and most of the people who play it are pretty mature.

fortnite, cod bo4 blackout mode(which is BR), and pubg are probably the 3 biggest names. and they are all BR. fortnite is 3rd person, cod is 1st person, pubg has first and 3rd person modes.

I've been playing BO4. Both Multiplayer and Blackout. But blackout is so damned hard, there are way too many good players on that, ,I can't survive long. But I do have fun with it anyways. I do better with Multiplayer.

Trayarch has been updating pretty regularly, with both improvements and more content, I'm impressed.

Ok so now that I have had this new hard drive for almost a week, and time to play these shooters, here where are rate them;

- Star Wars Battlefront II = Grade of C- ( Not the game I was expecting, I wanted a Battlefield type of gameplay, only with Star Wars skins and theme, but BF II feels watered down and barely vehicles like in Battlefield. Won't really be playing this game )

- Battlefield V = Grade of C+ / B- ( For some reason BFV doesn't play like my most recent fav battlefield game, BF4. gameplay seems a little different, and the maps don't have nearly enough vehicles, I want to see dogfights with like 6 planes per side, and Tanks, these maps need way more tanks. And the maps need to be larger. Plus the game feels bit choppy, like not graphics choppy, but server side choppy ? For some reason this doesn't feel like Battlefield 3 or BF 4 ? ) And I am a huge Battlefield fan, I LOVED BF 1942 and then again BF 2, but BFV feels different

- Destiny 2 Forsaken = Grade of A- / B+ ( I just bought Forsaken + Annual Pass package last night, haven't really played the game since last year, so my character is way behind the curve. I wanted to try a fresh new character class, started a Warlock, as my currnet Level 20 character is a Hunter. And holy moly the Warlock starting story and gameplay was very exciting, and super cool, blown away with the action and feel, and look and sounds. Really surprised me with how much I liked it. I ran a Gambit multiplayer thing, and that too was very fun.) I need to figure out this game some more, but so far it's a winner. I just need to learn how to get into the new content ? My main guy is just level 20 and like i250 gear score, and then I have the option to boost a character to level 30. So for me to play Forsaken content how do I go about doing that ?

- New Doom = Grade of B+ ( This is still a classic action FPS, a fun game to blow some steam off for 20 minutes at a crack. )

Destiny 2 for serious play and CoD - Black Ops II for intoxicated fun.

Unfortunately, both Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 1 were disappointments IMHO....

- I could still play TF2 any day of the week. (even though it's been forever)
