I need a good, reliable, cable modem. I recently purchased a Arris SB6190 with the infamous Intel chipset in it. I am going to use it as target practice, I think. I should have researched before purchase.

Anyway, I need a cable modem. Compatible with Comcast. Looking for a 3.0 (24x8 or 32x8), but would not turn down an excellent deal on a 3.1 - due to price, probably not going to get one though. Been looking at Amazon and refurbs/used so far but thought I would ask [H].

PM me if you have one. Include details and asking price.

I have a SB6141 but dont think comcast supports it anymore since they told me that and made me rent there's

whats this problem with the sb6190?? never heard about this.
The whole 'puma' chipset scare. It's a non-issue in my experience as I have 2 sb6190s at the end of a ipsec vpn tunnel that I rdp across all the time and there's no lag or nonsense that people keep posting about. I think if it was a problem it's been solved eons ago as my modems are over 2yrs old.

OP, try the modem and plug in ONE computer with a linux live cd and run the dslreports puma test and I almost guarantee it will come out clean and green if your Internet connection is working correctly. You don't need another modem. And if you think you do, I know a vet who needs yours as he's trying to reduce expenses and wants to stop renting from comcast.

If you ask them, then they won't support it. If you do a 'self-install' it works fine up to the modems rated speed. Should work great for the OP if he's dead set on changing modems. (y)

docsis 3.1 is def faster for me 3.0 is slower by 30+mbps but my used one still works plenty fine
