I recently bought an iPhone XS Max. Yes I always take extra care of my gadgets, so i do have a case and tempered glass protection. But the lens is expose, therefore vulnerable.

My old iPhone 6S Plus which I am still using, also has a case and tempered glass protection, with lens unprotected. But in case of Max because of extra weight, and bigger size of lens, the chances of vulnerability will increase, So I feel that the lens also needs a protection (I might be wrong).

Can someone recommend me a good lens protection, which shouldn't affect the photography performance? The ones available in Amazon have 1 star rating, so I am not sure of these.

I believe Apple has been using sapphire for the camera housing since the iPhone 7 so it's less susceptible to scratches. Most cases are also raised beyond the camera bump and thus should help protect it against drops.

I've never used anything to directly protect the camera lens housing and I've never damaged it on any of my iPhones.

Thank you, my case is not the best, but it is raised to the level of camera bump. I am thinking of buying UAG Monarch case, which will provide more protection to the camera.

My other concern, that I keep my XS Max in my front pocket, where the camera lens is on continuous contact with rugged surfaces of the denim.

I agree with exlink. You don't need any sort of "camera protection" for this phone, or likely any phone made in the past 5 years.
A case that is wider than the camera protrusion is more that sufficient to protect the camera and its lens. The most likely way you're going to damage the camera is from a drop. And it's unlikely that the lens itself would get damaged from a drop. It's far more likely that internal damage would occur (if the drop say landed on the camera module).

Your jeans will do nothing to the lens. You could even clean the lens with your jeans. Sand is unlikely to play a factor either (but in fairness, I wouldn't test that. Make sure your pockets are free from debris). Unless you're rubbing steel objects or objects with greater hardness than sapphire crystal, you'll likely be fine. Once again, I'm not saying test this with sharp materials. But I doubt you'll be able to find any individual that has handled their phone properly that has had an issue specifically with their camera module getting scratched up.

I've had 4 different iphones from the iPhone 4S up. And none of them have had an issue with jeans or scratches on the camera lenses. You'd have to do something especially bad in order to do so.

Thank you, I would worry less about the lens now.
