AW3418DW

Well, damn. I ended up pulling the trigger on the price that they have now on Newegg's website (with a little bit larger discount from a mobile app promo they had). Not sure how I feel about Newegg offering a bigger discount through their E-Bay store as opposed to their actual website. I was sitting on the fence on this exact display for a while too, and wasn't seeing deals on other similar UW 1440p monitors. Got the monitor in last night and it's amazing over the 1080p monitor I was using. Difference is night and day to me.

That is good to hear! I have never paid this much for a monitor and had hopes it would live up to the cost. Glad to hear you like it.

Thanks, OP. In for 1. I was thinking of doing a monitor upgrade for my main rig since it is still running a Dell 3415 / 60hz. My new lappie has a 144hz screen and was making using the desktop painful by comparison. Now my desktop can be almost as shiny!

Yes, so I took the plunge and ordered this monitor. It's basically 20% off at this price so... I guess I'm just gonna have to eat more cup ramen to pay it off. Hahaha.

I was debating getting this monitor ever since I saw the deal. Too bad I didn't see the $704 deal the day before or I could have gotten another $15 off.

Although only 120 hz, it is IPS so For $100 more, I think it'll probably feel better than the LG 32GK850G VA that I was also considering cos of that 165hz refresh rate.

Yeah, I came from a 144Hz monitor going to this Alienware one. I honestly don't see a difference between 120 and 144.

Ordered mine from Dell last week on sale for 899 with a $75 gift card. Not as good as this deal but I'm super happy with the monitor and loving how the games look.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm excited to get this bad boy onto my desktop and put it through its paces!

Received my monitor this afternoon. All I can say is WOW! I have a corner desk and it just slides in the hutch opening I have on top of the desk. All I have done or needed to do was adjust the brightness a few notches and turn off the power saver. Colors are very sharp, no dead pixels that I can see. I almost need a deeper desktop to distance myself from the screen a bit. Glad I bought this when I did.

Mine comes Friday unfortunately .Maybe Thursday if I'm lucky not sure if it's comming from NJ or CA

Mine shipped from N.J. Got it 2 days early from the scheduled delivery date.

I'll have to wait for tracking to update so it could be getting here tomarrow or Thursday depending if not it's Friday..

Awesome news! Great to hear you're enjoying the purchase.

I just got mine today as well. I swapped out my 3415 (the 3418DW takes the same 100x100 vesa plate) and it is noice! :-D

My Alienware 3418DW arrived today! No dead pixels! Thanks, deadpixelbuddy!

The 120hz is gorgeous, the IPS is beautiful, the curve is immersive. Wow, I'm in love!

There is some IPS glow in the lower corners but it's kinda to be expected.

Here are some pictures from the unboxing:

This is the Biggest monitor box I've ever received! Barely fit through my house hallway!

The stand is a very solid metal feel with handy cable management.

Aww that shiny new feeling when you see the 3440x1440p panel.

Let's check for dead pixels... We're A-OK!

z18EMXp.jpg

Let's overclock to 120hz. OSD makes it easy!

TAG1H2t.jpg

We need to set up the G-Sync too.

2xEUyQA.jpg

But does it -really- do 120hz? Yup!

kmCjleb.jpg

Oh no, my secondary monitor doesn't do 120hz. How do I avoid stutter? A secondary video card! It's only an HD 6450 but it only has one job.

FndfV71.jpg

Ok now that we have two video cards and two monitors how do they look? Let's play Youtube video and the Sims 4 at the same time!

ZSxeixv.jpg

So in summary, I am super happy with my purchase. No dead pixels, gorgeous images, immersive feel to games and content.

And for my secondary, I actually prefer playing 16:9 content, youtube, videos, etc. on my original 16:9 32" HP Omen.

But my new primary screen is super immersive eye candy for games and other stuff I want in front of my face.

Still getting used to the curve, but I love it so far. Any questions about the monitor, let me know and I'll answer or try to test it out if it is within my capabilities.

The only criticism I have at the moment is the feet on the stand waste hella amount of desktop space. Definitely get some monitor arms for your setups if you run this monitor. Cleans up your desk and leaves room for your other gear as well.

WOW looks like ill be unboxing in my kitchen. box wont fit in my room, currently its a mess

I agree on both counts. The monitor stand feet take up a lot of space. If they had somehow made the base flat like the omen and kept the adjustability that would have been nice. But at least it has really good cable management built into it.

And yeah that box is extremely massive. I could barely squeeze it through the hallway! LOL.

I will say that the really slim bezels are a big plus and add to the immersion. And of course the silky smooth movement on screen with G-sync really breathes life into games and high fps content.

The black bars on the side are a real 'thing' with 16:9 content though which is why a secondary 16:9 monitor feels like a must have to me.

PS For ultrawide monitor owners out there, what is your goto source for 21:9 content? I'd love to enjoy some 21:9 material on my brand new monitor!

On PowerDVD you can play Blu-Ray discs without black bars. It may depend on the movie, but many these days are close to 21:9 aspect ratio.

You can also search on YouTube (e.g. for "21:9 4K") and find some nice demo material.

The only slight I see with this monitor is the curve is more aggressive than its Asus/Acer counterparts. In the end it's a tradeoff for the 120Hz overclock, since they're all basically using the same exact panels. Nice to see the price come down on these things.

they would delay my package till today and require signature when ill be away working. im livid

I agree about the stand, have a monitor arm coming in Saturday. It is my first experience with one of those, but with my new desk coming next week, I think they will make nice upgrades to my setup.

OMG everything is so small! not used to sitting so close to a monitor again. btw mine has stuck or dead pixels near the top left side corner is this something i should be worried about? kinda sucks but they are so damn small

I wouldn't worry about a single dead pixel, especially if it is off to the side. Trying the replacement game is a gamble unless you are really unhappy with it.

its actually about 10-15 stuck pixels non are dead. trying this jscreenfix program to help .

Contact Dell. They have zero dead pixel policy for this premium monitor. Yes, you're going to have to play the RMA game unfortunately but they should take good care of you. For this amount of money, I wouldn't accept less than a pixel perfect display. I'm just glad I had 0 dead/stuck pixels on this baby. As everything feels so satisfying about it. In fact I also like the aggressive curve as the wrap around effect makes games feel more immersive now that I experience it first hand.

I agree with returning the monitor. Dell will probably ship you the replacement before they receive yours. Give them a call.

I picked up a new, A04 revision, from the Newegg/ebay deal last week. Upon turning down the brightness to 30 in the OSD I'm still seeing what to me is an unacceptable level of "IPS-glow", especially in the lower-left, from the appropriate viewing distance specified in the manual. I have to pull my head back to beyond 38" from the screen until it no longer becomes bothersome, which is something I cannot do if I still want to be able to use it as intended. I want to ask if this is a typical amount of IPS-glow from this monitor, in which case I'll just ask for a refund, or if I received an atypical example, in which case I'll ask for an exchange and hope the second is better.

I should also mention that this monitor does have some other issues which I'm giving a pass to including: flickering issues at 120Hz, IPS glow in the other corners, and a slight left-to-right cool-to-warm color shift.

I've included some photos with the understanding that what you see may be a bit different due to your monitor settings, etc. I tried to make the photo as representative as possible as to what I see when I look at the screen (I didn't try to exaggerate the effect by over-exposing the images). To me these photos look quite accurate.

I got mine today and works just fine. No dead pixels so far. But what color settings you guys are using? Using the fps mode and brightness but still seems a little warm for my taste. I like the cool colors and vibrant than warm and dull.

I'm trying to decide if I should do this or a VA panel like agon or LG.

I mostly play single player "cinematic" type games like shadow of mordor, mad max, metro, etc. My Video card setup is 1070 SLI.

Also: Can you run a game at 2560x1440 on this and just have black bars to the side(s)? Is refresh rate higher at 2560x1440?

Mine has minimal glow, no color issues and only flickers when it's waking up from sleep. Yours looks awful. I would try to exchange it if you can.

Bought my 34" curved AW3418DW @ $720. Knew I had held off waiting for Black Friday deal and this was it.

Lowest price I have seen and tired of being on the fence over it. At least getting up before 5 AM on a Holiday has some rewards.

I picked mine up a week ago at Best Buy for $800 plus $50 for a 4-year warranty. This monitor is rated as one of the best gaming monitors for 2018 so its a great deal. I got a panel rev A04 with no dead pixels and very minimal IPS glow. I was considering the new LG 34K950G but it is $1400 and I knew it wouldn't be $600 dollars better than the AW. The stand is very sturdy but huge and I couldn't push it back far enough on my desk so I got an Amazon monitor arm wall mount. Now I can I position it closer for desktop work and farther away for games, especially FPS games. I keep it at 100Hz which is good enough for me. I love how the monitor can show the framerate which is really the refresh rate so it is great confirmation that g-sync is working or not. I set my monitor to the specs listed on TFT Central and then did my only calibration with my Spyder 5 Pro and now it looks beautiful on the desktop and in games with a gamma of 2.2. Everyone that I've shown the monitor to is super impressed with it.

Now I know that Asus & Acer are coming out with HDR Ultrawide 3440x1440 monitors but these will have VA panels and I want to wait to see how bad the ghosting is to see if I regret not waiting, either way, the AW is a dang fine monitor with beautiful IPS colors.

I say IPS over VA. I own the Acer Z35 2560x1080 Ultra-wide with a VA panel which I 'early-adopted' and the moment I got it home the ghosting was so bad I tried to return it to Fry's Electronics and they told me flat out NO. I even RMA'd to ACER and they sent it back to me with a firmware update which didn't help the ghosting at all and no amount of tweaking would make it go away. The repair technician even called me on the phone and told me that the ghosting was native to VA panels and gave me some tips to lessen the annoyance. But still, any dark scene in a game looked like crap and also anything with Red color ghosted like crazy. I played the entirety of Witcher 3 with that monitor and got used to all the red & dark colors streaking and considered it a feature. LG released the IPS 34UC89G-B Ultrawide IPS 2560x1080 (Darn sweet monitor btw) I picked it up for $700 at Fry's making them price match Amazon. I loved it and swore I would stick with the higher DPI of 2560x1080 until I could get a native 100Hz IPS Ultra-Wide 3440x1440 at a decent price. I am just so gun shy on VA panels now. I think that HDR on an IPS with enough brightness is only a couple years away at most. No way is LG not gonna make HDR10 work on IPS, they will get it done eventually.

The shape and pattern of your IPS glow you show on your pics is the same as on my new AW but I don't think my glow is as bright but I do notice it when I boot and it has a blank screen. In games or normal desktop, it does not bother me. Try moving it farther away and lower brightness to 30. Also, the gamma on the monitor is 2.6 according to TFT Central. I used a spyder 5 pro to calibrate my ICC profile to get a 2.2 gamma which seemed to help when windows was loaded.

Thanks, I have my brightness at 30 at most and reduce it further when I'm playing a game and the room is dark. I'm using the color profile from TFT Central as I do not have a calibration device. You're correct that moving further away corrects the issue but I have an eye disease and I cannot see very well so moving my head back as far as needed results in me not being able to read what's on the screen. Aside from that my the glow appears when I'm well within the monitor's viewing as distance as stated in the manual. I purchased it during the $720 Ebay/Newegg deal and have submitted a request to return it as I do not think that trying to exchange through them would be practical, assuming that they'd even be up for doing that. Maybe purchase another through CostCo at some point as I know there will be no issues with returns in at least 90 days. Going to suck going back to my old 24" non-Gsync monitor but I just can't stomach spending this much while still having to deal with the ugly glow.

I do love the aspect ratio and the styling is not too bad - would be nice if they made one without the alien stuff on it though. I also wish that the rear "AlienFX" lighting was actually more practical in terms of serving as a background light. Not sure why white is not a selectable option either.
