Cyberpunk 2077 Will Be "As Refined as Red Dead Redemption 2"

During a recent conference call, CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kiciński suggested that the launch of the heavily anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 would be comparable with Rockstar Games’ latest release, Red Dead Redemption 2, which has been a critical and financial success. Kiciński intends to “deliver something of great quality,” as there is little room for anything lesser in today’s swamped gaming catalog. Brokerage house Vestor DM predicts the game will release in Q4 ’19 and sell 19 million copies in its first quarter.

“Without a doubt, quality is of paramount importance. We strive to publish games which are as refined as Red Dead Redemption 2, and recent Rockstar releases in general. That game is excellent, by the way, we are rooting for it. Rave reviews, excellent sales. What does that teach us? Well, it teaches us that we need to publish extraordinary games and that’s exactly what we are planning. Gamers, it seems, tend to focus more and more on hit releases.”

I would hope so, I heard they didn't do so well with their latest release (the Witcher hybrid card game - Throne or something something). So I do hope they get the hint that people want the RPGs and not card games. One Gwent game was more than enough IMO.

My primary complaint with red dead is the same as all rockstar games, the story is on struct insta fail rails.

They could really take a page from bioware and obsidian circa kotor 1 and 2. You could legit play as a good guy or bad guy. Companions really brought your decisions to life. Decade and half of technical "progress" and we've gone backwards.

Don't get me wrong I love being able to play a socially concious cowboy, but what about when I want to replay? All decisions are fixed. It feels claustraphobic and restricting. Really shatters open world illusion.

You can ride your horse this way or that but you will save this woman and you will kill that guy.

That inspires no confidence at all. We have heard horror stories about Red Dead2 in its development and PC variant isn't here because of it. So this would mean it will be f'ed up so bad that it gets features cut and PC version delayed a year?

Given that The witcher 3 was, imho, better then anything rockstar has ever released I would be surprised if cyberpunk is "only" as good as rdr2.

After all the Bethesda RPG's I've played in recent years I completely forgot how polished an RPG could be. Legitimately blown away by the polish in most of TW3.

Hopefully is doesn't involve the same level of micromanagement. Playing RDR2 often feels like work with all of the hassles you have to constantly deal with.

I damn hope it is nothing like either of them. I'm probably the only person on earth, but I didn't like witcher at all, not one bit.

Well it's another RPG from the same company so you might wanna look at different genres from different companies. It sounds crazy, but trust me it works.

I bounced off Witcher 2 and 3 myself.

Don't get be wrong, they seem to be fine games... But I don't like em either.

As much as I like RDR2 it is far from refined.

Reviews say otherwise, much as we like to blow minor gripes of the game out of proportion. In fairness, the CEO was addressing a group of investors on an earnings call, and using RDR2 as a point of reference. He wasn't actually saying "we hope our game is as good as RDR2".

He's a smart guy and chose his words to keep the money flowing in so the game gets made - that's all that matters.

People these days, they think someone disliking a game they like is a personal attack on them. But especially Witcher 3 fans.
Do you think you're the first one to say something like that to me? "If you don't like witcher 3 then RPGs are not for you hurr-durr" Take a number.
Meanwhile I'll continue to enjoy other RPGs.

I'm not saying they were bad games, either. There were two reasons I couldn't finish them: I really couldn't like or even identify with any of the characters. Second one was that the game expects you the player to remember things that should be knowledge held by your character. I couldn't be bothered.

I actually loved both but I do have to agree with you there. Could not even begin to remember how many RPG's I've put down for that very reason. I'm not playing video games so I can read more books to study and memorize.

Jumped right into three without playing 1 and never making it past 2's tutorial. Never had any problem with the knowledge, everything was pretty much out there on their cuffs (Visemere being the wise old Hunter, triss the younger temptress, toss pot leading the rebellion, etc etc).

So many parallels to Catholic church and the civilization it brought.

Umm no, it's pretty simple really. I don't like pop music for instance, but apparently a ton of people do. I don't beg pop stars to make different music, I listen to different people that make different music.

Not sure how you came up with me taking anything personal (although it seems you did,) it's really simple logic. The same company making the same genre of game they had a critical success with, is likely going to be similar in quite a few aspects.

I enjoyed RDR2, but I really didn't get all the gushing love for it aside from the beautiful scenery. The rest of it basically reminds me of RDR1 with better visuals, and frankly RDR1 was so amazing because of all it was at the time it was released. That's not that impressive in 2018.

Considering RDR2 didn't even release on PC, Cyberpunk will absolutely crush RDR in sales. If it doesn't do 30m in sales, I would be shocked. But the analyst from the brokerage house probably has never played a game in his life so he's just making numbers up. Kind of like how Blizz said "diablo immortal was well received" and there are wall street analysts who think "oh ok, sounds good".
