HOT: TP-Link Touch P5 | AC1900 Touch Screen Wi-Fi Gigabit Router $49

Do yourself a favor and avoid this. These things are junk.

Could you elaborate more on what's bad with it? The reviews I found by googling seems to be mixed. I'm looking for a new wifi router and this seems like a good deal.

$50 dollars is ... $50 dollars. The truth is, it's going to get the job done.

Is it the top of the line? No .. of course not. Is it terrible, no, of course not.

It's going to get the job done and for $50 dollars, there's $100 to $150 left over to spend on SSD's, Video Cards, etc etc.

Do yourself a favor and get the Archer C9 instead. One of the top rated routers for 2018. I got mine online yesterday during a flash sale for way under $100.

I'll second that. Granted, if I see one of those with the small screen being sold on craigslist one day dirt cheap I will grab it to play with but if I wanted something I knew would be solid, I'd grab the Archer C9. I've got a C7 and love it, so I have no issues recommending the brand.

Go to www.smallnetbuilder.com if you want to find out what's good and what's junk.

Also, go to support forums and look up the model you are interested in. Also look for the latest date of a ROM/FW to see if it's abandoned ware.

The Netgear 7800 is considered the best in terms of mass consumer speed and range. I have one and I have no problems streaming 800 mbps to my 1gbit intel NIC. I get over 900 mbps with AC 5GHz. It works well with my powerline adapter and linksys AP & netgear switch. Port forwarding works well too.

Like all mass routers, the USB storage stinks . Getting it to work with Windows 10 is near impossible some days. Drives get constantly dropped if the network can't respond fast enough. And QOS actually slows things down.

The Archers are good, and have nice options for advanced users, but in terms of pure speed, the Netgear wins.

I have the C7 rev2. Served me real well but after four years it's starting to drop connections so now I'm looking for a replacement. Since it's been a good experience with TP-Link I want to stay with it. I'll bite on the Touch P5, I mean for $50 bucks I'll risk it.

Thanks for the link, very helpful. Unfortunately the Touch P5 hasn't been reviewed yet.

TP-Link Archer C7 user here, though now it's doing side duties. Was a great FIOS replacement router to avoid equipment rental fees, and way more powerful wifi coverage than that FIOS Quantum Gateway router. I even hooked up family members with this model.

The OP's deal seems excellent, and i was also considering the Archer C9 recently.

Side deal: Microcenter has the Archer C7 AC1750 refurb for $40, and a $5 coupon lowers it to $35

Nearly forgot abut that site, thanks for the reminder!

Archer series always comes up recommended. I got a c5 about 2 years ago to keep the same wifi speeds the wife liked with the comcast box that I wanted out--and it's done the job well. Actually very well considering there's over 100APs visible inside our apartment and all the bands are just constantly jammed with noise.
