Acer Swift 3 doesn't power on - would that be the battery?

A friend gave me an Acer Swift 3. He wanted the data out, and after that decided to just toss the thing away. It doesn't power up. Plugging it in doesn't do a thing, nothing lights up.

The power ON button is part of the keyboard.

PSU is working. I cracked it open and measured around 2.8V on the battery poles when plugged in, charging light doesn't go on. When I take it out, it goes from 0V to 0.15V.

Well, I am quite sure that battery is gone. I've found some people complaining their Swift laptops went to sleep and never came back, and there seems to be a BIOS update to fix that. I guess that's what happened.

My question is: could it be that the thing doesn't turn on because the battery is absolutely dead? I don't have a lot of experience with sleek-looking stuff, it's the old school gear that has a removable battery that I am comfortable with. Those don't usually care for the battery.

LOL

Weirdly enough, I can only find people who had this issue while it was on warranty, so Acer fixed it for them. But this one went past the warranty period. Now I am here wondering if it would be worth a shot to buy a battery to test. The lappy seems nice.

May as well try it if you can get the battery cheap enough, could also check the voltages of the PSU and see if that is still working.

Maybe put the PSU brick to your ear to see if it makes any coil whine type noise while plugged into the laptop and wall, and if the noise stops when unplugged from just the laptop if it does make any noise.

PSU seems to be OK, but we'll see.

I'll just order the battery and see how it fares out.
