early 2000s case for sleeper/retro build.

may or may not be your cup of tea, but ive ALWAYS liked these antec cases from the 2000-2005 era (timing may be a bit off)

antec_sx1030b.jpg

there were so many cool cases, and for that matter, case mods that came out of those.....

that's a Antec SX1030b

there were some other versions of the same thing, without the drive bay door.... which always lost my interest....

After doing some looking I found that PPCS had a thermaltake xaser V in stock. Its not quite the case I was looking for, but its close.
So I bought it, And a crap load of old AC Ryan fans.
I really wanted a older xaser like a 2 or iii, but a V wingo will do whit some mods
man we sure have come a long way...i had to google those parts..but now i remember

I used to have a Xaser III fireball edition, was not a bad case, did get the paint to peel of by resting my leg on it all the time :p

Lian Li PC-V1000 (or the bigger PC-V2000) is ~15 years old now and honestly hasn't dated much. It's still completely viable for modern builds in terms of cooling even.

I remember those old Antec cases, I also had a SX1030b around 2002 or 2003. I had it fully loaded with fans because I was having a cooling problem, I think I was using Vantec fans and a Zalman cooler. But the noise got to me and when Antec released the Sonata cases, I switched to those and got into low noise computing. I guess today's equivalent would be Antec's P7 Silent which includes a throwback ODD slot for a real old style look. For me, I'm now using a NZXT H230 (which has sadly been discontinued) and a couple of Silverstone Grandia GD09 cases for HTPC applications and that old desktop look.

I am still using a thermaltake shark funny thing is that case has the best newest parts.

I have one of those sitting in my basement, unused.
I also have my current build in a Corsair 750D, and a server in a Rocketfish Full Tower (the all-aluminum one with the door).

I always loved my Lian Li case from early 2000. I forget the model but it was very plain but very sleek looking.

I have two of them here at home and a few of them at work.

Still using my LL V2000 case and have no problems with it. It's big, but plenty of room to do everything i may want to do. (Even if i shouldn't...lol)
Part of me still wishes i had invested in a Vapochill case once upon a time even though it probably would not have been the wisest investment. :D

I have one sitting in my shed, if you're into the retro vibe, checkout Raidmax Gama, it is the new Antec/Enermax case of the 2000's.

Old school! I remember these, I still have an old Antec in the basement I believe.

I have two Supermicro SC760 full tower cases. Very short front to back and really just a rectangle. I had one painted by a body shop and I still use it as my primary PC case. More of late 90s case.

I also have an Ultra Wizard aluminum case in blue and silver. It has an AMD athlon64 in it but hasn't been booted for like 6 years. Definitely early 2000's

Crazy ass question, but I just got a Thermaltake version of the Antec--does anyone know what Thermaltake's model number was? I don't have access it to anymore and it's killing me not to know the model number.

Picked up two of these new old stock with PSU (junk 35 watt) I recall around $20 each shipped? Under $30 anyway. Coolest old cases werer Lian Li.

Best pic I could find similar to what I remember. Too expensive though with shipping

Not a sleeper build, but basically rebuilt my PC from the way back with XP.
I got this case in 04 I think, used it for number of years, traded it to a friend, he traded it to another friend, I saw it at a friends house in 2016 and he gave it back to later that year.

This is my current case. (Corsair Obsidian 650d) Served me well for years but going to my brother once my new build is done.

That *Almost* looks like a Daisy Duke poster on the wall, but probably is someone more modern. :sneaky:
(Nice setup btw)

It's Britney from back in the day, the other 2 pics are photos I took, my friend Sara at the beach and LeAnn Rimes at a concert in Dalls Texas back in 1997.

Have a silver Tsunami sitting under my desk collecting dust. Need to figure out something kewl to do with it.
Restore it! Something like that is already pretty close to impossible to find and someone will want it for sure. :)

I am pretty sure it's complete minus the top flapper for the USB and headphone/microphone ports. Maybe somebody will want the C2D e8400 and MSI P35 Neo2 mobo with a 256mb 8600GT lol.

Package deal!!

You'd be surprised how much that all cleaned up with win98/xp on it will go for on ebay as a retro gaming system. Good ones are expensive.

The other thing you can do is max it out for cheap just to have fun with it. Pop in a q9450 for <$15, a gtx260 <$24, max out the ram if it isn't at 8gb already, and then run xp or win7 on it and watch it be impressive for what it is for just casual use. And imagine playing some of the games of that era that only dreamed of faster hardware--have fun turning up the settings on the stuff you used to play and seeing it in its full glory. Good games never stop being fun, no matter how old they are. And then when you're done, pass on the bundle to someone who wants a turnkey retro gaming system.
