Fallout 76

It'll be interesting to see if they can boost performance over time. I've noticed that indoor areas that don't involve a scene transition tend to have big performance hits. Arktos Pharma being a prime example. I'm at 60fps 95% of the time, but there are parts in that area that drop into the 30's. The same happens on my wife's machine and she's on a totally different configuration.

Since this is a long haul type of game I don't think we'll see a ton of new content for a bit, but I'm hoping for some performance fixes and (obviously) some bug fixes. I haven't had too many, but the game does love to hang on exit. I also ran into an escort public event where the robot I was escorting got stuck. Par for the course for a Bethesda launch I suppose. I ran into plenty of similar things in FO4.

Cohh finally put out a small thoughts video: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/337990968

The TLDW even though it's only five minutes is basically there is a really good Fallout game but it's riddled with issues to the point where he doesn't recommend buying it unless you've done the research and know what you're in for.

I really hope Bethesda fixes the majority of the issues. As Cohh said though, there's a good chance most of the player base is gone before it happens. I definitely see myself picking this up eventually but it depends on how quickly they fix it.

I'm waiting, I did the same with ESO. It struggled for a while too (after it's initial launch), then IIRC that massive content patch and people started coming back en masse, now it's a successful game. A smaller development studio would be dead in the water with a launch like this, Bethesda though? They'll rebound. Still sucks for all the people who bought in early and had to play through a mess of a game then sit around / quit and come back months later to experience the game "the way it was intended".

Figured I'd post this. (haven't had a chance to try it myself but *fingers crossed*)

Apparently they fixed that quest bug one of you guys complained about before soooo.... high five?

Patch seems to help with performance a bit.

I'm a little confused on this "Pacifist mode" they've added. So basically, you can be murdered, picked on, etc... But can NOT retaliate? What the shit is that? How does the at all fix possible bullies down the road? Or improve on user experience if they don't wang to PVP? If anything, this will make that player a bigger target if they have this enabled.

horrorshow
Is this correct?

Would like to say performance is now top notch for me finally. Turned vsync off, Maxed out ultra and with gsync in get between 90-120 FPS. No stutter at all. Gotta say this 1 patch fixed all my issues. Shit I’ll even go farther and say it runs better for me than fallout 4 ever did.

Before I had to use that ini help On page 10. So it’s night and day for me.

Shame they decided to launch the game on schedule iso delaying it a bit and making everyones first experience with the game so much better. I'm waiting on a sale b4 I try this one, got plenty of backlog to keep me busy atm.

You weren't joking in the slightest.

FPS has jumped 20-30 on average and I haven't seen any bugs at all......... yet.

This is what I was able to pull up for ya: https://twinfinite.net/2018/10/fallout-76-pacifist-mode-turn-on-how/

Anyways, this patch made a big difference for me!

Not perfect but I expect it'll smooth out even more as time goes on....

For now though, I'm running the Medium preset. Then, I change Textures/Water/Lighting/ShadowQual to high, Shadow Distance to low, and turn off Vsync in the ini.

Using Adaptive Vsync, I average 60 fps about 90% of the time, and the other 10% is mostly when it's loading new grids/cells etc.

Huzzah!!

That was a lot of trial and error.... Mostly because of having to balance the CPU/GPU in my system lol

I'm fried but I'm actually going to "play for real" tomorrow!!

(FYI, I was overly in-depth describing the settings just in case someone else with a similarly old CPU configuration wants to know what to expect)

PS4 Pro Vs PC fallout 76 comparison -
My sig vs a friends 55 inch 4k PS4 Pro.
As of 20 minutes logging in next to each other.... my friend has been offered (by a player) a Hazmat uniform with 1k rad resistance, for free... versus, dick heads on pc fucking with my housing.... I've never even seen a hazmat suit yet and I'm 20 levels higher.

Bottom line... HEY PC PLAYERS! Quit being vaginas!

K thanks!

The amount of damage dealt when Pacifist Mode is turned on in Fallout 76 really is minimal, and once the first shot has been fired, you won’t take any further damage until you return fire, or your vice-versa if you’re shooting a player with Pacifist Mode enabled.
So this means with Pacifist Mode enabled you literally can't be hurt or killed by other players (aside from 1 bullet)? That sounds nice. :)

For me, fullscreen mode is still a little choppy in places, but borderless is smooth.
My wife and I have been playing as a team, and I think that's pretty enjoyable. It's not so great when you're just scouring a building for adhesive, but it's fun for exploring the large outdoor areas.
Just like in Red Dead, I'm not a fan of the game requiring food and water. IMO that's a trend that needs to stop. It's a game - stop making everything OCD "realistic."

You encountered a friendly stranger in an online game in 2018. That's nothing to do with PC vs console. You encountered a magical unicorn. You should probably buy a lottery ticket.

That was my biggest issue in the BETA! Almost every person I encountered started shooting at me, meanwhile I was just trying to help. I guess I've played Division too much where, for the most part, people were helpful vs. aggressive.

I don't think I've encountered anyone aggressive thus far. It's usually just been other people farming stuff at the airport, doing public events, or just running around. At one point I managed to get 4 different people to play the instruments at the airport, which was kinda funny. Most people aren't playing with mics, but the people that are have been mostly just chatting with friends. I fully expect the consoles are a different experience, though.

I have met quite a few aggressive people. Although they were wanted right away which if killed gives like 200-300 caps? So it is worth it killing someone who is wanted.

I have also had my base raided by either an NPC or person. Not sure yet laugh.....Having a blast in this game but god damn they better give us more room in our stash soon this is stupid how we are limited to 400.

Would any of you say that if you were generally disappointed by FO4 that there's no reason to try this out?

I've been a massive Fallout fan since, well.. I guess just 3 and NV, but 4 let me down, I felt like I did everything I cared to in about 70 hours including every mission of substance and exploring the entire map.

What does this have to offer? If it's just base building I'm probably already out.

It depends what you want from it. In a lot of cases is it an MMO type game. You can teamup with friends or play solo (so far im mostly solo). There are a ton of quests eventhough there is no NPC's there is plenty to do.

There is also events which give people loot, which usually is damn good. Also the latest patch has fixed performance on PC by a lot! BUT there are some drawbacks....

#1 loot is based on level, which does suck but IMO i usually have been scraping everything including guns that are higher level than me since I know I will get more of them later....Try not to stash them because....

#2 the stash limit is 400 which is fucking patheic, Bethesda is fixing this issue but ya I am not sure how they did not see this..

#3 Some of the big bosses you find have to be done with a group, but that hows some MMO's are basically (Like Destiny).

#4 your base can be destroyed, but as long as you have made a blueprint of it you will be fine and can setup it up again.

#5 there is no push to talk....like wtf how could they not do that on PC.

Overall I love the game but, it does have some drawbacks. I love being able to play solo so far and I will say I have found way more friendly people than trolls

I feel like the discussion here portrays the game far more positively than elsewhere online.

Without NPC’s how can there be any meaningful quests? That was my biggest complaint with 4, it was all retrieve this or clear out this area.

Good to know it can be played solo though, I don’t have much for friends that play games.

Quests mostly show up after u go to an area look in lockers or chests. Some of them are daily quests. I have also got a quest or 2 from robots. Imo the best thing u can do it try to follow the storyline since it will give u some decent weapons along the way. You can get a power suit right away. But can’t use the armor for it until lvl 25.

I mostly enjoying just exploring and doing my own shit. Just like I did in Skyrim and previous fallout games lol

I think in part is that most of the people giving it good reviews on here are actually playing it than making up their minds before doing so.

Nearly everyone playing it on this forum have good things to say about it. Nobody has mentioned this game being perfect, as it's definitely not. But It's nice to see you and others sharing positive feedback about the game.

I think it's because they are charging too much. IMO it should of been around 39.99-44.99. I also think not being on steam was a huge letdown, I for one wish it was.

If you didn't like 4, it's only better in a few ways.
Graphics would be one. Being able to play with others would be another, although, Fallout isn't necessarily geared around that 1/2 of the time. Gunplay would be a 3rd. VATS isn't all that great since this game is in real time, so the actual gunplay is what you'll be using 99% of the time. It feels good, too.
Quests are mostly the same, but instead of quests for living people you're mostly chasing recordings, notes, robots, etc. It makes sense once you begin.
Your camps don't have to be fancy. I'm not bothering with that aspect beyond utility.

I think it's a good game (not great), but if you didn't like 4 I don't think I'd buy this until it's on sale.

I was fully prepared to shell out $200+ for the power armor edition. I cant speak for everyone but I think $60 would have been OK if the game had a good release. If they pushed the beta earlier and delayed the game to fix what they are in the process of fixing now I think it would have been fine. Granted you'd still have people saying "this is just a copy/paste of Fallout 4 and not worth $60" but without the other issues I think those comments would be lost in a sea of comments about how great the game is.

I wont argue the fact that it isn't on Steam. I wasn't thrilled about installing yet another launcher.

Forcing the Bethesda Launcher is definitely lame. I swear every company has their own launcher/store now. Some of them (like Uplay and Rockstar) even do double duty on top of Steam. That's getting really old. Especially because most of them kinda suck. Bethesda's is a blurry mess.

Giantbomb Unlikely to Review Fallout 76.

Gerstmann: “No one on staff wants to play anymore of this videogame [Fallout 76]. I’m not going to subject myself to another 20-30 hours of this [expletive] mess to just put a number on it. My number is ‘Don’t play this game’.”

Seems to be listed too early.
As detailed in GameStop's 2018 Black Friday Ad, Fallout 76's standard edition will be available for $39.99 from November 22 at 3 PM ET. The higher-tier Tricentennial Edition also receives a price cut to $59.99, bundling exclusive in-game cosmetic items. This deal will be granted for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, concluding later this week on November 25.

According to this the sale WILL NOT include the PC version.
Cool.

So my friends LAN Partied this last weekend, and they all pretty much walked away unsatisfied and went back to other things.

Didn't tell me much as they bought it in the first place (which I thought was dumb) so I asked some pointed questions that would help me decide if I actually would like this:

  1. How is the Level Gating:
    1. Every area is a designated level.
      1. Ok pretty normal, areas are large enough
    2. Weapons are now level gated
      1. Hum, I don't remember needing a specific level to use say the Fat Boy in prior Bethesda games, yuck. (I like roaming and looting, dealing with high level mobs by atypical tactics and superior equipment)
    3. Not a fan
  2. How is the teaming:
    1. 4 per team max (ugh why)
  3. How is the plot:
    1. Very bad
  4. PVP?
    1. Duel system, they shoot you and you shoot back, PVP is engaged.

All and all with those answers I'm not interested.

Found this pro-tip on reddit.

The most useful weapon in the game (self.fo76)

submitted 2 hours ago by Invictium

Is EASILY the combat knife with the Vampire effect.
I'm approaching level 40 and I've been using this level 20 knife since I've been able to.
The effect is that damaging enemies causes you to heal a small amount, HOWEVER
Just by swinging the knife at any time, you heal about 5% of your life bar. Couple this with the perk that gives you 30% melee attack speed, and you are nearly unkillable
