Fallout 76

I knew this was going to happen.
Bethesda never really had polished games. They basically make games that modders improve.
So what happens when you can't mod the game? Fallout 76.

  • November 19 Patch - The next update will focus primarily on game performance and stability on all platforms but will also come with a list of fixes to quests, UI, C.A.M.P.s, and more. Patch notes will be available early next week. This update will be large compared to what we expect for patches going forward. Regular updates will always vary in size, but future updates should be much smaller in comparison.

Guess I'll try again on Monday....

I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

Fuck ya'll haters.

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

That's awesome.

For me, (mostly after being spoiled by 50-60fps on everything I play), it's currently not enjoyable for me....

I REALLY HOPE the patch on Monday rectifies this.

.... was hoping to join a [H] F76 Discord or something cool like that honestly ....

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

I don't doubt that I would have enjoyed it at least a little bit if I got it. I love the Fallout series. It's probably my second most played franchise.

However in this day and age I cant support a company who releases games in this state. Especially since from what I've seen it is basically just a new map for Fallout 4 with some multiplayer thrown in. Honestly that's what I was expecting and that isn't what disappoints me. Its the fact that there are so many issues/bugs. Take another six months and fix the game, then release it. But this is Bethesda, we knew this was coming. The problem is I don't have enough faith in them to fix it. Nebell nailed it above.

I don't know how much of the "unencrypted networking and no anti-cheat" was true, but honestly I'm still expecting a lot of cheats / exploits to happen and for the game to become a shit show. That's another reason I'm waiting. I really hope it doesn't happen, but look at PUBG. Maybe it's only because the game was so popular but from my understanding they never really got a handle on it. I have the same expectations for Bethesda.

I do have the Fallout itch that I would like this game to scratch. I want to get in and enjoy it. For me it is not the right time. Depending on how much they fix and how things go otherwise will decide if I pick this up soon or wait for a $5 sale in the future.

I thought this was Hardforum, the realm of people who make up their own minds, not from extremely biased reviews, but for themselves.

How are you not getting 60 frames in this game? Turn your shit down then.

My son and I (1070ti for me and a 1060ti for him) are easily getting 60 frames on this game. I think your settings are way too high if you're getting infrequent framerates. A 980 TI (from your sig) should run this just fine.

If you read my other post, you'd see that some setting changes DO NOT trigger for me.

It's a well documented issue on the Bethesda forums and hopefully should be corrected in Monday's patch.

Trust me brother, I know what time it is ;)

I've put more time in to this game than Red Dead 2 already, and I wasn't even planning on buying this game. Probably because I can play with my son, which has been awesome.

As far as bugs, I have not encountered any game breaking ones in the 30-40 hours I've already sunk in to this. As far as enjoyment, I'm having a blast with it. The game is running as smoothe as I could possibly want it to. The plus side of playing on a now old engine, my GPU isn't stressing over using it. My average load temps are like 10C under what a usual game puts on it. Which is nice for long hours without worry.

My biggest complaint is the lack of building with your camp. I have a medium(at best) sized settlement and I'm already capped on building with just 3 turrets. I have a few mod benches, 2 chairs, and a table, along with one picture frame and I can't build any more. This is bull shit. I've added a pic of my house/camp and it's not even that big.

A smaller complaint I have is the lack of stash spots you get. Bethesda is looking to fix this A.S.A.P but at the time, having 400 stash weight is pretty damn pathetic.

Other minor complaints is of course the trading prices these vendors have. They're all the same. 100 caps for a stimpak is insane. I would never buy that. Even with my buy/sell perk at level 3, stimpaks are like 85 bucks. Ridiculous. If anything, I look at this as if to motivate the players to be self sufficient. You can somewhat easily make stimpaks when you get the recipe. Water is seriously easy on acquiring. So the survival aspect is somewhat of a joke once you can create those two or three ingredients in abundance.
Trading with players is tedious. Best to just drop the item you want to give to the player as it is a MUCH easier process.

I don't mind not having Human NPCS, as there are a ton of ghouls, beasts, houses, areas to explore and find. They do need to add a chat box though as I cannot switch from my speakers and headset in one go without resetting. Some times players get a little pissy if you don't respond to them right away. Well I can't if I don't have my headset on.

As far as the reason for my length of play, I'm not sure. I don't know the direction of this game yet, but I am digging the exploration aspect of it. I've murked some pretty savage looking beasts already. I will say, the AI is a bit dumbdowned from Fallout 4. There are plenty of no hit detections when shooting directly at an enemy, but after a while I'm getting used to it.

I haven't been booted from a server since a few days ago, so servers have definitely improved already.

The game has a ton of potential. As is right now, it is definetely not worthy at $60 as it stands, maybe $40 tops. With gameplay improvements, increased building bandwidth with camps, to better ways to socialize, increased stash storage, this game could be awesome. But right now, I'll give it a 7 out of 10.

Does this game deserve the over exagerated negative reviews it's getting? I absolutely do not think so.

Another No Man's Sky Review Epidemic.... It's comical and heartbreaking at the same time to see such things.

Ugh, this makes me so sad.

Sad at the realization that they butchered the franchise. But funny to see how bad its really gotten, even more so is seeing the people who defend it. Obviously they haven't been in the game long enough to have that kind of retrospect.

Ugh, this makes me so sad.

What's sad is you guys cave to the negativity train, just like you all did with No Mans Sky.

What's sad is you know little about this game other than what these extremely harsh reviews /montage videos try to depict.

What's sad is you guys will spend countless posts/time on derailing a game you've never even played, which should make your opinion moot, just like the majority of all negative reviewers basing their unfounded opinions from only word to mouth hear say.

This game spews out Fallout similarities in practically every aspect of the game. Buggy? Sure. Missing some things? Definitely. But butchered the franchise? You know nothing.

"But Shroud said this! Angry Joe said that!"

Pleaseee..

I've been around long enough to know what a turd looks like & how to avoid stepping in it. Fallout, this ain't.

This game was designed from conception to be a microtransaction money pit. Plain and simple. It was designed to take existing assets from Fallout 4, (which took existing assets from the player made Wasteland Settler Mod from Fallout 3) do as little effort as possible to create a skin and use it as a storefront to sell people in game items and cosmetics. Plain and simple.

If you disagree. You are wrong.

Microtransaction pit? Please explain. All of the microtransactions are shit, and not needed at all. Plus you can make all currency to buy these cosmetics in game by just playing.
I've accumulated enough currency to buy several items already, and I'm not even a good player.

So no, you are definitely wrong about that.

If this game was designed to keep a steady income from such things, this has to the absolute worst form of doing so. Not one hint of advertising has been displayed on my screen regarding the store either.

A useless skin is going to do that for them? I don't think so.

Every single cosmetic I've found in game already is far better eye candy than what they have in the store.

Do your research.

Telling someone that they are wrong about how they feel about something? You best look in the mirror then. How about we agree that we disagree on how we look at things.

Watch this video, it has some interesting news from the devs themselves:

Some points:

1. They had no sales goals for this game.
2. Todd Howard was very hands-off with the game.
3. They didn't get any feedback from users for the game.

Horsesh*t.

Watched the video.

I live 5 mins from downtown Dallas, and I'm intimately familiar with the arcade he's talking about because my younger brothers friend owns it!

I've been there many, many times and never run into any game developers. Let alone even heard that any of them frequent there.

This guy is literally talking out of his ass to get views on youtube.

Pathetic.

Funny, I legitimately agree with everything in this post.

It's a fun game and I have enjoyed it, was a bit leery of it being basically a limited MMO but it has been fun. I always enjoyed the lore and the stories of the lives of the people from before the bombs and what some did to survive after the bombs. Most people so far have been helpful and its fun to talk with them while grouped. Honestly it gets way too negative rap when in all it's pretty fun just a bit different then what your used to.

What's sad is you guys cave to the negativity train, just like you all did with No Mans Sky.

And what should people base their opinion on, if not reviews? Don't give me the "just buy it and try it lol," crap. If people just buy every game, no matter how bad it looks, well that just incentives publishers to put out crap. Why bother building a good game if people will buy a garbage one just because "I can't listen to reviews, I have to try it myself." Rather, the right answer is for people to NOT preorder, NOT buy in to hype, wait for something to come out, and then look at reviews and make a decision if it is likely to be worth their money based off of what is is NOW, not what it could become, or you hope it would become.

No Man's Sky is actually a fairly apt comparison for me. When it came out I looked at it and said "What a piece of shit." Big empty world with nothing to do, lots of bugs, missing tons of things either promised or hinted at, etc. Hard pass. Now with all the updates? Ya looks like it might be fun. Doesn't look amazing, but I think I'd probably enjoy it so if I get bitten by the bug to play that kind of game, I might pick it up. However that doesn't mean I was wrong in my initial assessment, or to not buy it. I have to go on what a game is, not what it could be, because you never know how much will happen post launch.

Same shit here. Will it become a great (or at least good) game? Maybe, and if it does and I'm feeling like a Fallout type MMO, I'll pick it up. However right now it looks like a mess. Technical issues, all kinds of ability for people to exploit, and a boring, lifeless world. Doesn't look like something I want to play, so I'm not buying it. Yes, I'm basing that off watching reviews not trying it because guess what? I'm not going to give them money and hope it is good, and then if it isn't they get to keep my money.

How do you know maybe he just didn't have to be there right place, right time?

Listen to the way he describes the situation....

It sounds like a kid making up a story to impress his friends.

I've been in sales over 15 years and can spot BS pretty easily.

It's the overly descriptive nature of his narrative that gives it away.

(also read the comments, others agree with me)

-=< To be clear, I AM NOT DEFENDING THE GAME. Merely calling out a sad man who blatantly made up a story for hits on Youtube. >=-

No, what is sad is people supporting shit like this. Like I said, I'd probably enjoy the game. Fallout is one of my favorite franchises. Cohh who is in that video numerous times giving his negative opinion loves Fallout. I've seen enough of his playthroughs to trust his opinion. It generally isn't far off from my own. I can't speak for everyone else featured in the video, but the fact that there are so many different people shows how widespread the problems are.

What's sad is that developers get away with pushing out complete garbage full of bugs, then when they patch it down the road everyone goes "OMG LOOK HOW MUCH THEY CARE" when they finally have a game that resembles what it should have been to begin with. At this point they're basically still developing the game after you paid for it and people are happy because they're adding features that should have been there from the start. It's pathetic.

So we know they took Fallout 4 and basically made a new map. Yes they added multiplayer. They did this but couldn't bother fixing the bugs that were in Fallout 4? Actually lets step back, why the fuck did they not fix the bugs in Fallout 4 instead of releasing paid DLC content? The fact that I need to visit Nexusmods to fix issues with every fallout game I've ever played is inexcusable.

This is exactly what the gaming industry is becoming:

But please, continue to swing from Bethesda's nuts. Keep purchasing games that are broken. Keep showing them that we are sheep and will buy whatever they put out as long as it has a name that goes with our favorite franchise. This doesn't go only for Bethesda products either.

It's fine if you enjoy the game. Whats not fine is saying that the negativity train is sad. The negativity train is there for a reason.

Yeah they are selling the game cards for Fallout 76 currency at Walmart I noticed.

I enjoyed Fallout 4, but didn't play it very thoroughly. Does 76 have the same emphasis on gathering/scraping/building your town? Or can you just focus on the "story" and mindless blasting of objectives?

No Man's Sky fucking sucked on release, and for a long time after release. I would say the majority of people held this opinion.

Only after many, MANY patches has it become decent.

Honestly, the building/camp mechanic isn't a requirement in FO76 like it was in FO 4. At least from as far as I've played. It's more of a hub to self sustain yourself once you've got everything in place.
The majority of my time has easily been spent exploring/objectives/story and not building anyways. When I need to repair, or craft something, I port back to my base to do all of that. The random craft benches you find, don't show up on the map at all, so it gets a little hard to figure out where an armor or weapons bench is if you don't have one at your camp. The random benches are more of an assistance, especially when you're over encumbered or need to repair on the spot.

NMS literally fucking lied about what features were in the game. How anyone could support that is beyond me. I don't care how good the game was. They took preorder money from people who were expecting one thing and got something else. Anyhow this isn't a NMS thread so I'll stop there.

I'm not going to get in to this with too much depth. But NMS is the perfect example of proving how full of shit the whiners really were.

A 10 man dev team released a game that was hyped SOLELY on unlimited exploration - A procedurally generated universe. THIS is exactly what created the hype for this game during the three years of pre release. Check out our own thread on this. Nothing else mattered up until the month or so before hand. And they fully delivered on that aspect. The rest is icing on the cake.

Just got back from visiting the mirror. They guy on the other side still agrees, they're wrong.

Did it hurt your feelings? The way you're acting, I bet it did :)

The fact that you're personally attacking me rather than giving my argument any counter points tells me all I need to know. I honestly find it hilarious that you have absolutely no argument and have to resort to that. Have fun playing the game. I'll continue to wait to see if they fix the game. Then maybe one day we'll meet on a server.

Sometimes, some of you guys act like you don't belong at the "big kids" table....

It's an obviously unfinished game.... some will enjoy it now, others later. Others still, never.

Chillllllllllllll
