Ok so my friend plays ESO daily (I also play but only 3 times a week) and he is getting burned out it.

We need some suggestions of another MMO to play. Or an RPG that has coop.

What y'all got....

Already tried FF14, didn't like it.

Fallout 76, I almost fell out of my chair on that one..

I've been watching youtube vids, and really there is nothing good right now.

I wanna say I've heard some reputable [H] members mention Black Desert?

Guild Wars 2?

Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Those and FF14 are pretty much it friendo.

World of Warcraft
Star wars: the old republic
Guild wars 2
Rift
Tera
Lotr online

Co op RPG
Divinity Original sin I and II
Borderlands (if you dont mind that it's an FPS with some rpg mechanics) 2nd game would be the best one

I believe Divinity Origninal Sin is turn based, I don't like turn based. Any diablo like games with coop?

We both already played SWTOR, GW2, and Wow.

Keep the suggestions coming...

Is he looking to basically gain the same experience/immersion he got from ESO?
After 5k hours in that game, I can no longer see myself playing an MMO of that sort.

What about Ark Survival Evolved?

My friends and I had the best gameplay experience we've ever encountered with that game.

The new expansion just came out too, and server rentals just got reduced again. So private servers are more affordable than ever. An almost must if you want to maximize gameplay performance. Public servers are pure shit imo.

The one that has been holding my interest lately is Dungeons and Dragons Online. It's a old one, but still fun IMO. Have to like the D&D way of doing things though. Worth giving a look, the basic quests are all free to play so you can fire it up and try it. It is not for everyone though and quite different from ESO. Game is based around doing module style quests. There's not really a "walk around and kill stuff" open world, you go and get a quest, and then you and your group go in the instance and do it. XP is awarded for completion, not kills. The continual progression system is one of "reincarnation", you get a character to max level, then reincarnate which resets your level and gives you a bit of a permanent bonus. Game is technically free to play and with enough work you can earn access to everythign in game but realistically you either pay monthly ($10-15 depending on how many months at once) to unlock all the content or you buy adventure packs ala carte which are groups of related quests. All quests are adjustable difficulty and you can solo the whole game, but grouping makes things a lot more fun. No PvP to speak of (there's technically a duel type thing that nobody does).

It's a small MMO, and very different from many others, but fun and has a loyal player base. Worth a look if you want the MMO type experience but are looking for something different.

I play on Sarlona, if you want to join there.

Hmm well I tried Path of Exile, and wasn't too impressed. Didn't like the graphics and the character movement is kinda cheezie.

I just found out about Darksiders III it comes out on Nov. 26 so I might try that out it looks pretty good.

Some clarification would help. Grim Dawn is excellent, but it's in a different genre than ESO. Does he want another large-scale MMO with hundreds of other players in the same area and huge world, or a smaller, more focused experience with only one or two players like Grim Dawn, Titan Quest, Tower of Time, Shadows: Awakening, etc.?

Indeed, I have many, many possible suggestions but I need some clarification.

Do you want to a MMO or simply a co-op game? Furthermore, what did your friend like about ESO and what does he not favor in terms of mechanics? Did he like roleplaying, leveling his class/building his character, raids, PVP, dungeons etc....something else entirely?

Another vote for Grim Dawn. Bought it over the weekend. Paid like $21 for it through HumbleBundle. I may quit World of Warcraft for it since that game has become stale.

Ok some clarification. My friend likes MMOs, he enjoys role playing and leveling characters, and enjoys dungeons. No PvP.

For me I thought we could get a fun RPG coop game. Will Darksiders III have coop, or is it single player only?

But I'm indifferent I could play either an MMO or small RPG.

Again I'll say: Look at DDO. The game is doing dungeons, leveling characters, and collecting loot.

Also what did he not like about FFXIV? I'm assuming he played the free trial. The first ~30 levels in any MMO usually aren't enough to experience what the game has to offer.

I'm definitely not a fan of anime, cutesy crap, or cat ears, yet I've played and found much to enjoy in FFXIV for nearly 4 years.

Black Desert Online is on sale for $4.99 on steam. Quite enjoyable, tons of crafting, leveling, killing, etc. The game is gorgeous. Probably won't be a permanent game, however for $4.99 one time, you can easily lose a couple of months until you feel like going back to ESO or a new MMO finally comes out.

I played it when it first released for like 2-3 months, got tired of it, came back a year later for another month or two, and then off and on as friends play infrequently.

It is hugely pay to win.

It is hugely pay to win.
It can be for end game progression, but I haven't paid a cent, and the leveling up to mid 50s with a few people was fun. But that's why I also said it won't be your final mmo, it's a fun distraction.

I just started BDO and it does look gorgeous. It also is very obvious about its pay to win. BUT if you just want to kill some time, it's a great way to go. IMO there is nothing wrong with pay to win if you aren't playing PVP. I never understood why people were so bothered by it.

Who cares if the guy next to you is paying $$$ to level up?

I don't even like that style of game, but I had fun with Neverwinter. I didn't pay a dime and I did all of the original game content. They've since supposedly added a lot of new stuff.
