Fallout 76

I don't understand the concept of those of you who don't care for this new release and still stay around the thread to ensure we all know you don't like it.

Like Fallout 4? Then there is absolutely no reason you wouldn't like this game. Enough said.

It's already pretty rare to run in to players unless going back to town OR they're on the same mission. I feel as alone playing this game as I did in Fallout 4.

Gameplay mechanics, hit registry, loot, etc feels 90% identical to FO 4.

But this game is missing key elements that made FO4 fun.
I'm not sure I can enjoy a Fallout game without mods, quests, friendly NPCs to interact with. I even really liked building up settlements in FO4, which doesn't exist in FO76. Also, I don't want to play with random people, which can't be avoided in FO76.

You can build in FO 76, you don't have to play with anyone. Like I mentioned, i barely see anyone. You can also block everyone in game from the session you're in.

Anyone else order from Amazon and not have it yet? Amazon says they shipped it on Monday from CA, it flew to KY and then back to the west coast. Local mail supposedly has it as of 3am or 9am today. All this hassle for a 20% discount.

Wait, there's no quests or settlements?

What the f do you do in the game?

Ya, sadly looks like a hard pass for me. Not because I object to multi-player versions of single player games. Elder Scrolls Online was quite fun (until the bugs ruined it for me), different than single player ES games but well done. However this has forced PvP so that's a huge nope. Not because I am anti-PvP but when you make it something that can happen anywhere and there's no opt out, griefing is the inevitable result. Doesn't matter what you try to do, it happens, and happens a lot. The griefers will grief because they enjoy it, even if there's penalties, and given that many of them are younger with lots of time on their hands, they tend to be able to get powerful quite fast.

Unless they change that, I'm out.
Other players can't actually damage you unless you engage them when they shoot at you.

It looks like they can from the video posted here, they just damage you less. So not a big issue if it is one dude your level but a big group of high level players would probably wreck you and that's precisely how griefers will roll around. Things that try to make it harder to grief don't work, you have to halt it completely or the griefers will do it.

Player Damage to you is mitigated by like 90-95% if you don't attack back. At best, higher levels could just annoy you if you don't retaliate. I personally like to lure them to my base full of turrets first, and then smash. It's hilarious.

If you do get punked by high levels -
Other than caps, you actually don't lose anything though, even if someone raids your base. Either you beat them in the fight, they respawn, want revenge and keep coming back, or they win the fight, destroy your stuff/base and that's it, but it's temporary.

If you relocate to another "realm/server", your base and items (minus your loss of caps) are waiting for you as if nothing happened.

PVP is a temporary mode at best.

How many of you have bought this game, played it, and regretted buying it? And why?

I need a 3 paragraph essay by the end of the period.

And vice versa. That's the sole reason why I'm not purchasing this game. I wanted to RP as a Raider. Laaaaaaaaaaaaame.

One thing: Bethesda better have their sh1t together and patch F76 FREQUENTLY.

They can't get away with the Fallout 4 patch nonsense this time. What, with it being an online game etc....

You guys, I literally have no self control when it comes to buying new games.

I need someone to talk me out of it.

HELP AN ADDICT!

Besides the thrill of playing launch day, I have regrets.

Mainly, it obviously needed another 6 months in "the oven".

Performance is all over the place. It's actually quite embarassing. FPS drops that make zero sense and are easily reproducible etc etc.

Gameplay-wise, you can tell Bethesda is playing "wait and see" to see what the players do and then start building the game around those interests.

I'd wager by this summer it'll be a different and much better game.

Whomp whomp.

Holy shit, I agree perfectly with MavericK on something. I purchased last week, and wish I hadn't. This game blows donkey cock.

Bobbleheads are limited time? Prices at the only vendor I've found, a robot in a church, are utterly fucking ridiculous. Quests have been rather lackluster. No people around, fuck all to do.

So, to sum it up, it is Fallout 4 online. When I think about Fallout multiplayer doesn't come to mind

Bought it on Amazon for the 20% off back in June. Played 6 hours today and see guys with like 20 turrets on their property. WTF I tried talking to him and nothing. I guess I was halfway expecting an ARMA3 voice system. So far not impressed. Water and food is ridiculously fast. And for some reason every time I sprint my AP drains like a big hole opened in a swamp. Even after dumping all my loot. Scratching head

Lol my poor wife rented this on Redbox for Xbox one one her day off to give it a try.

Had to uninstall Madden and Star Wars Battlefront to make room.

Then waited for it to install 50 gigs..

Then went ballistic when it wanted another 46 gigs for an update.

So there went Witcher 3.

Hours later, we finally got the chance to try it.

Had to sign in to the Microsoft account.

Had to buy Xbox Live Gold

Had to create a Bethesda account.

Finally got to play it!

Wtf this is like a lame-o Fallout 4 that you can't pause.

The entire scenery is blurred in the distance?

Already starving to death? Guess I'll let this lvl 1 Savager just put me out of my misery.

Controls seemed clunky and unintuitive.

So it got played maybe 20 minutes, after like 4 hours of install and update time.

She's glad she didn't buy it, to say the least.

I actually like it, but I do have a few complaints;

- OG fallout had some great dialog options with NPCs. It's been getting progressively more boring as each new game came out, with NPC dialog being virtually absent here. Would be nice if they added back in some fucked up options again.
- Not a fan of having to pay for fast travel. I get why they're doing it, but I don't agree with it.

Some things I do like;

- The perks system revamped. I like this new way of doing perks, maybe more than the previous iterations.
- Weapon/armor progression speed. I like how long it takes to work your way up to the serious stuff ( I don't get much time to play, keep in mind ). Makes it feel more valuable.
- Hunger/Thirst; I've always liked this constraint in game mechanics, I think it works well here.

Overall I can see why people are saying it's not quite done yet, but that just means we're going to be seeing more fun stuff added later and I'm already a fan of the game ( as mentioned ).

I played it during the beta periods and haven't touched it since. No compelling reason to play it...plus BFV consumes my life now. I don't hate the game I just wish there was more of a reason to put time into it. I feel like it doesn't reward you or provide any incentive to push through all of the issues.

So my wife and I are thinking of playing this together. Is there much in the way of content that requires huge raiding parties or lots of cooperation with strangers?
I play a lot of Destiny and I love that you can do just about everything except raids by yourself. How does this game compare?

Fallout 76 getting review bombed on Metacritic. There has only been one Metacritic review and they haven't added there score because they are waiting for 3 other authors to add their input. The user reviews are telling...

I can't make heads or tails of the Metacritic reviews. It feels like the really negative reviews offer very little beyond "It suxxxorz and is boooooooring and buggd" while the good reviews are like all 10's and disregard anything wrong with the game.
IGN seems to offer a decent perspective on the game in their review in progress. It seems like a lot of normal review outlets don't have anything up at all.

I'm a firm believer in concrete reality and constantly demean people that cry "Conspiracy!" etc.

But, I'm starting to get this weird feeling that at least some aspects of peoples impressions/criticism is being scrubbed online.

Never before have I had so much trouble finding answers to simple questions on google....

Maybe I was just exhausted last night, but it definitely "felt" off.

Ok guys, I bit. Like I always do.

But I'm glad I did.

I'm almost level 9 and I've ran into only a couple of bugs and no disconnects and I'm at a constant 55-63 FPS.

The world does feel a little empty at times, but I'm enjoying just exploring, leveling up and scrapping everything to build up my base. I'm also enjoying getting the blue prints and building new items, etc.

I've ran into a few players but couldn't hear them talking and they couldn't hear me talking. So I'm not sure if that's a bug or if I need to press a button to talk? I didn't check the key mappings yet.

Enemies are fun to kill, haven't ran into any crazy bosses yet. I did see the flying dragon looking thing but didn't even bother to engage it as I'm sure I would have been raped.

All in all, a fun experience. Looking forward to what they add.

*ducks*

Nioce.

(apparently, theres a common issue where changing some setting dooesn't work - for SOME people)

For me, the only difference between Low and Ultra is the texture resolution. Grass, shadows, nothing else changes....

I haven't messed with any of the ini files or anything crazy. The only thing I did, which I do in all games as soon as I login, is turn the shadows down to medium/low.

None of that ini nonsense worked since the final Beta.

I wish it did, because I know shadow distance being stuck at High is what's screwing me....

OpenCritic is the same. They need five more reviews to score it. Only 1 of the outlets they factor into their score has a review up, and it gave it a 30/100.

This prefs ini edit from Reddit is working for me, makes far distance and even closer up look better. Other posters in the Reddit thread say it's working too and working nicely. Removes DoF and puts in FXAA to override whatever AA was being used. May need to set it to read only. It includes a FoV adjustment edit but I haven't used it yet. Sorry it shows all of his Reddit post, I guess I need to adjust my profile settings or H does this for Reddit links and some other links, not sure.
