Good start! Now for all the other little details that need figuring out :)
 
I really like the look of this. would like to see maybe some kind option for a bracket to have a 120mm aio water cooler over the motherboard. not sure if that would be possible.
I also think the feet are ok too. Kind of reminds of me a lunar lander :)

Still twice much as CPU, so absolutely no point in aio cooler on cpu

gpu is the loudest part in this PC
I have thermalright axp100 and axp200 (for cpu ofcourse) i am thinking about making custom mount for them for gpu ;)

Couldn't you reduce the EMI concerns and provide it some protection with just a simple mesh covering? It would still essentially be open air. Even just screwing on a couple gridwall panels.

What EMI concerns? You get more EMI created when you microwave a burrito or while sexting a chic you met on Tinder. I doubt he has any other appliances in the area that are affected.

If this was a true honest to god workstation, then it would have ECC RAM and a full blown case to deal with EMI concerns. It isn't a mission critical computer worried about that one-in-ten to the trillionth chance of an errant cosmic ray getting past the earth's magnetic field, through the atmosphere, and hitting a square millimeter section of RAM causing it to flip a bit and blue screen.

This isn't a workstation. It's an artpiece that probably plays video games and doesn't run anything mission critical. It's fine in it's current configuration. OP's only concern should be curious pets or if he decides to pick it up while wearing wool socks on carpet in the middle of a zero humidity winter.

I've run open air computers for years with zero issues. A lot of the bit coin miners and other distributed computing guys run open air systems with zero issues. I don't see a tiny SFF setup like this being of any concern.

There have been a few folks on this forum whom used PCIe riser cables to produce unique form factors. Those riser ribbons stretch a large swatch of high-frequency signals over a large surface area and expose them to EMI interference. That interference is real, and WILL bite you. However, I don't see any in play here, so... game on? :)

First off, how dare you assume I eat burritos or am into chicks. For all you know, I am a raging homosexual raw food vegan. That out of the way, I'd still have a concern about protecting the equipment from accidental damage from even a small bump. Personally, I have two cats, so screwing on a couple lightweight gridwalls would make sense.

I have a short ribbon cable that allows the video card to be mounted parallel to the mobo for a very slim form factor... hasn't crapped out yet. *knock on wood*

Those may be your concerns, but not OP's. I don't think this thing is going into mass production. As a one off mod, I think it's a brilliant piece of functional art and I think adding anything to the exterior would completely kill the point of the mod in the first place.

I inherited 2 cats from my fiance, including a Siamese that's a real idiot sometimes. I had a custom built case for years that had a plexiglass lid. The way it was built, the lid wasn't meant to hold weight...and the cat decided to sleep on it and deform it. That's why I put everything into a new case.

Re-reading the thread, I'm not sure if you were referring to the EMI issue with the PCIe ribbon cable or EMI and the rest of the machine. If OP is using a decent quality shielded PCIe ribbon cable I think he will be just fine.

But he doesn't. He uses an ultra-cheap non-shielded grey ribbon cable. But somehow it works for him.
 
I'd love to have this layout in a nice box.
Possibly with a 240mm rad mounted on the front, R9 nano with a single slot water block on the top.

You could possibly make your own shield by just combining duct tape and aluminum tape, which most of us have in the house.

Happy to report, that foil works, but it hads some caveats. In the end I went with an aftermarket riser from LiHeat. HDPlex also has an interesting silicon riser here.
 
omg. I Absolutely LOVE this case design. I pretty much run my pcs sprawled on the desk anyway during builds, so to me this is really awesome to formalise it into a compact structure. From a cooling perspective, having ambient air means the best cooling you can get! Just need some compressed air to de-dust it when the need arises.

I would be interested in buying the plates if a run of these are made, and if they aren't prohibitively expensive. Are you laser/jet cutting these yourself?

Awesome. A motherboard with an I/O shroud would go a long way in this case. Also, consider some kind of an I/O shield frame, similar to how the power supply has metal around it's exhaust side (tho I realize that is necessary for mounting).

I believe we need a new dust filter technology for this case - the maglev filter :D

I think that the most interesting part of this build is the layout, it's not the most amazing out there, but nobody did this configuration before (as far as i know...)

with a few little tweaks, and in a case maybe, you could make a great proyect here!!!

@Zizu32 please don't leave this amazing piece of art die in oblivion...
 
i dont know what can I update on this, it's 1 of 1 and case is complete

I used stock chieftec psu cables (except pci-e 8pin cable which I made custom

maybe I can switch riser for FPC instad cheap china one, but works ok with it
 
This looks very nice. I would change the cheap plastic feet for some ball bearings, to look even more "industrial".

Shame you switched from a Z series board to H. No OC despite good potential for heat dissipation.
 
Any update on this? Looks nice and all, but I personally prefer the horizontally placed MB, possibly stacked on top of the power supply.
 
I would buy this. If you're not gonna have dust filters, you may as well have this case. A lot of flexibility and cleaning would be very easy. No issue with accessing the components :D But I'd hope it came with a box that I could put it in for transportation.

The OP probably just made one for himself, but I think it would sell.
