Good Morning All,

In my eternal struggle to have the latest and greatest, I'm debating on selling my current i7-7700K/Asus ROG Maximus IX Apex to switch over to the Ryzen 7 2700x proc. I do some video editing and I play a good amount of FPS/MMORPG games (Overwatch/Wow) so I need something that will suit my needs. I'll most like stick with my AIO Thermaltake cooler and everything else if at all possible. and just switch up the mobo/proc. Is it worth going red or stick with Intel?

Only if you are noticeably CPU limited in what you are doing. The 7700k overclocked will be slightly faster still in most games. The 2700x will be faster in productivity stuff.

I would never outright buy a 7700k over a 2700x if starting new right now because of future considerations. But since you already have a 7700k maybe consider sticking with what you have until it no longer meets your need. It’s still a solid chip with 8 threads and high IPC. Not much needs more than 8 threads right now in gaming.

Archaea, I would have to say that I'm not currently limited in my day-to-day activities. I'm just curious as to if whether or not it is a considerable upgrade to the Ryzen 7 2700x. After doing some more research (which I realize I should've done prior to asking this question), it looks like I'll be able to stick with the 7700k for quite some time.

If you primarily game on this system, it's not worth the switch. If you primarily did video encoding or other productivity work loads then yeah 2700X would be a good upgrade. Like mentioned above I would hold out at least another CPU generation and see how Ryzen 2 stacks up.

At least wait until Zen 2 comes out, which should roughly match Kaby Lake in performance.
Zen 2 is at least 5 months away. I would say moving to 2700x makes almost no sense unless you're doing quite a bit of video editing. I have a 7700k and IX Hero as well. You upgrades really are Zen 2 or the new i9s which I doubt it worth it either.
