Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY Edition $14.99

Crap is it really that good? I bought it a few months ago but never got around to playing it. Also have to play hollow knight. Just played axiom verge and don't care for it so on to the next 1!

I beg to differ. But at this price it is worth it.

Definitely an experience that stays with you. Even the smallest side quests are meaningful, and never feel like a chore to complete.

There's also an HD texture mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1021/?tab=description

And do download this. The game doesn't hide low quality textures very well and it can be jarring. This texture pack helps a good bit.

Also search for the pausing mod, so if you want to pause a cut scene you can. Cut scenes can be pretty long in this game so you really do want it.

It is better than good if you like the type of game. While not as dialogue-heavy as some RPGs, it's still relatively slow paced, and anyone who goes in expecting quick hack & slash action will likely lose patience and stop playing before the game really gets going. If the people who have given up on it before would just stick it out until after the first little village - which is basically still part of the tutorial - I think they'd see how much more enjoyable it is once it opens up and the plot gets rolling.

One of the best RPGs I've played.

Put about 300 hours in on my PC Playthrough, also did a once over on PS4. It's a good game worth playing. Don't go in expecting the voice acting to be noteworthy, as that's IMO the weak point of the game, but writing is decent, as it's backed by many fables and the stories are adaptations of books. Believe that it'd get around a 7.5 - 8.5 out of 10, higher when factoring in the subjective element that CDPR is an awesome company -- so 10/10 with subjective elements included.
First time through my expectations for the story immersion was higher, I never really felt like I was Geralt. If you go in and don't care about the main story elements, and instead adventure around, performing Witcher like functions for society, you'll find the story immersion to be much more copacetic and that indeed you are the Witcher. Also, did play it on easier settings, but with dodging and appropriate build, you can go against monsters 2x your level even early, and mid game without much difficulty. Just dodge, use bomb, attack conservatively, dodge, etc. Using Quen to shield yourself will ensure you keep max adrenaline without taking damage. This further makes you feel immersed and that with proper preparation you're an unstoppable witching machine.
Number 1 Recommendation --> Alchemy specialization.
Reasoning --> That makes the most use of Witcher immersive elements. Potions, Decoctions, etc, along with harvesting parts from the monsters you kill makes this specialization a must for those wanting the most immersive Witcher experience. Attack and Sign focus builds are good, the latter being more immersive IMO than the former, but both are incomparable to the immersion of having potion, decoction and bombs being your primary way of defeating your opponents. If you max your Alchemy, you can pop 3 or more decoctions, which amp all your abilities and make you a killing machine. Bombs and potions further increase both your survivability and dmg output. One of my fav decoctions, increased my health with every kill by 10, along with another that was life leech, and all decoctions active increased hp by 1000 each IIRC.

The texture pack is good, and if you want to pause, can also just ALT-TAB out during cut scenes and they will stop where they are until you ALT-TAB back.

I've logged close to 200 hours in the game since it launched, and I still keep going back to it just to roam around, but that's me.

My non-gamer wife loves witcher 3, we play it together a few nights a week after the kiddo goes to sleep. Definitely a steal at 14.99, especially since it comes with the expacs.

Another reason to jump on this if you're at all on the fence is to help support GOG, who seemed to be ]financially struggling a bit lately. They have been a great supplement/alternative to Steam and I'd sure hate to see them go away. At $15 they're probably not making much off of each copy sold, but something's better than nothing and if we're getting one of the greatest RPGs on PC out of the deal then it's a win/win.

Heck, I might have to go ahead and pick this up this even though it'll probably be forever until I play it.

Played sum more of this bit still haven't gotten around to what is so amazing about it! Ugh hopefully it hits soon. Cup head was the same way but once I got into it was a masterpiece.

If you get past the Bloody Baron quest and you still feel this way, then this may not be the best game for you.

holy **** they have
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri™ Planetary Pack for $6

How much further away is the bloody baron? I just am by the Get dressed and talk to the chamberlain! Hoping things start getting epic.

You've still got a few segments until Bloody Baron. If you're already wondering, "when is this going to be awesome" and trying to rush to a specific quest chain, then you might be spoiling some of the excitement. I started getting really hooked just with the music and exploration around White Orchard. Then when the Devil in the Well contract happened and I followed it along, I was 100% hooked from then on. I knew this was going to be a masterpiece if a small little bounty board quest was fleshed out like that.

The Bloody Baron story still sticks with me just as vividly, if not more vividly, than some of the best books I've read. Knowing how that story ended based on my decisions was crushing...especially with how much I had interacted with the characters along the journey. Just awesome.

You just got out of the tutorial area. Yes, the whole of the beginning of the game in White Orchard is considered the tutorial.

I agree. This is the quest that really got me hooked on the game. It's so well-written and paced. The voice actor for the Baron also does an amazing job, so I would recommend people to not skip the dialogue at least the first time.

What I love about W3:

Almost everything that happens in the game is in a semi-uncomfortable grey area of morality. There's very rarely a Light/Good obvious choice and a Dark/Bad obvious choice. It might seem that way at first glance, but as Geralt digs in - everything always gets more complicated. Some guy doing Great Evil had some motivation which may not have been so evil after all. Layers and layers.

The other thing - the length allows real connection to characters. Sometimes games try an emotional scene but it falls flat. I don't really know those people, and they feel fake. W3's exposing of characters as real, flawed individuals sells it much better. When there's an emotional moment, it really is. Finding out something bad happens to someone you've played with for 40 hours actually has an impact.

And my god, anyone skipping the dialog EVER on the first playthrough is just a terrorist. The voice acting is among the very best in the industry (very few exceptions).

Is it half as good as Resident Evil?

:D

P.S. I'm bummed. I waited too long and missed the sale on W3.
