Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Now that the game has been out for a while, are opinions still very positive? Still still a GOTY candidate or has it faltered at all?
Not just goty but best game since XCOM2.

Not many times do I start a new game right after finishing the first. Almost everything is great about the game, there are a few minor issues, that's it. If anyone's interested I've written a review in the other topic.

My opinion has gone up... tbh same thing happened with Origins though.
It's probably in my top10 sp games of all time. Still have to finish the Ancient & Cult storylines.

This game is good enough that I may actually play through it again playing the sister. Sure, it's basically the same game but the voice acting is good enough that it seems worth it.

I'm going to start a 2nd run immediately after I finish and this time I'm not equipping a bow (full assassination run).
Staying as Kassandra, though. Alexios' VA kills it for me.

Currently at 130 hours for this playthrough (191 total). I probably have another 20-30hrs before I finish.

I started to play as Alexios on the second go.
just to find out what evil Kassandra is like. As the good guy alexios is actually not that bad, ofc still miles away from Kassandra. But at least not as annoying as Deimos.

It's really good to hear so many good things about this game. Hopefully it's part of the Christmas Steam Sale...but it if isn't I'll likely still buy it. I loved the games prior to Unity; and Origins made me just as happy as the older games used to.

For anyone wondering if this is good and enjoyed Origins - It's better. By a lot in my opinion. Origins was good, but the attention to detail in this game really has elevated the series. I just hope future games continue to deliver and improve in quality.

I played origins and sort of got bored mid way through and stopped as it was way too repetitive and was not into the story. Is this one really that much better than origins?

Far more interesting side quests and locations IMO in this game.

I don't know about origins. The story is really good in this one and they put a lot of research and effort into the main quests. The main problem is that the world is just too damn big if you are a completionist. It takes forever. IMO it would have been much better with 1/2 the land mass but a much "denser" world.

There are some pacing issues but it's a million times better than Origins. It's an actual complete story, unlike Origins which just turns into a trainwreck in the last chapter.
But technically there are 3 split storylines in Odyssey (more like 2.5) so the narrative is more spread out. Instead of focusing on "one task" like a typical main story you will be doing 3 separate storylines that are all connected.

The side quest chains are also way more fleshed out, with most zones having their own story chain that takes about 1-3 hours, depending on zone size. I'd argue several of them are better than the main campaign.

It's not as good as something like Witcher 3 but as far as most open-world games go, it's wayyyy up there. Possibly 2nd only to TW3.

The story and characters is a personal preference, but the gameplay and fight mechanics are objectively much better in this game than in the witcher 3.

I'm the odd one out but the witcher series never appealed to me. I outright hated the characters, and found the story boring.

I don't know. The combat is okay. Probably better than Witcher 3 unmodded. I just don't get into the story like I did with Witcher 3. Still a good game. Just missing something for me.

Did anyone else manage to guess who the Ghost of Kosmos was? :D

Honestly I knew right away even before being formally spoiled on it. The main 'clue'/description they gave and the fact that it's a female makes it pretty easy to guess.

Honestly I didn't read the clues, so I haven't even tried guessing. Such a disappointment. I wished for someone like palpatine, a real sith lord.

Now level 50 with all max level gear and STEAMROLLING everything. Main progression @ 93%

I'm almost tempted to hold off playing more until they drop the DLC with higher level cap.

Bladed heavy weapons are totally OP ;) My armour is a unique epic "Restored Mycenaean Armour set" that was awarded on a side mission.

GOTY for me.

So I just finished one of the main stories of the game it was a fantastic ride. I’m 111 hours in with 90% completed. I have to admit that once you hit level 50 you’re way OP and the game kinda gets a bit to easy but it’s still fun.

Just finished my 145hr completionist playthrough. I didn't get all of the treasure map tablets or finish Xenia's quest, though.
I think I will wait for the transmog/level cap patches before continuing.

Current ranking of best open world sp games:
1. Skyrim (incl mods)
2. Fallout 4 (incl mods)
3. BotW
4. AC:Od

Lightning Bringer is active as of 9 AM EST.
There is also a new weekly ship event, and the weekly/daily orchi quests have reset too obviously.

New loading tip hints at hard mode monsters.

Also looks like Sargon got fucked this week...

I have to say, I'm really not a fan of timed events. I want to play the game at my own pace, and not like being forced to play by making rewards timed. That's exactly one of the reasons I don't play multiplayer games.

A few hours in and I think it's safe to say it's possibly the bet AC yet (and I've enjoyed every AC made). I wasn't sure about the rpg elements but they integrate nicely and are not overbearing.

I started playing as Alexios, but found the character far too cookie cutter dark beard. The Kassandra character is much more emotive and better voice acting.

Sucks that this update came out now after I received a ton of XP that I didn't get credited for since I was already at level 50.

You get ability points based on your surplus XP.

First 'bug' I noticed so far, bow transmog doesn't change your quiver.

Also don't panic about your ship, they added more upgrade tiers.
