2080ti 2080 Ownership Club

This has been a nightmare.

Eventually got things working okay with one card and decided to try SLI again to see if the settings made any difference. Of course, not even 30 seconds into Far Cry 5 I get a blue screen. Tried it again and another crash.

So I removed the bad card, then the "good" card would not respond at all. Not even the BIOS screen would show, complete black screen. Rebooted multiple times, nothing would show on the screen (tried HDMI and DisplayPort with 2 different monitors).

So I swapped the cards. The bad card got me into Windows, did a DDU reinstall, swapped the cards again and now back in Windows.

Started playing FC5 and played for like 20 minutes, and then it crashed. Maybe this game is bunk. Benchmarks like Superposition and Heaven are working no problem.

At this point I'm wondering if both cards are bad. Or it could be the power supply. I bought an EVGA 1000W, I might have to try that.
Your FC5 problem might be driver related. There is a hot fix driver out that you should try. Here's the link: https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidia-...ing-issues-with-witcher-3-far-cry-5-and-more/

Guess I'm jumping to 416.64 when I get back for FC5. I thought the flashing was because I kept getting shot up...

That thread went to EVGA reference boards. Are you confusing it with Founders Edition? All reference boards can be flashed AFAIK except for the nVidia Founders Edition. It may have changed since I stopped following overclockers but multiple people has issues over there.
Then you missed this post. Newest version of nvflash is supposed to work with FE.

No way would I update a bios on a GPU never did in the past. Motherboards I have no problems with.

Did you not update with the official BIOS that NVIDIA released earlier this year? Same concept, only that one was automated. I ran a custom 450W BIOS on my Maxwell Titan X for years without any issues.

I’ve never heard of a GPU bios flash going wrong. You can only flash mfg bios anymore AFAIK.

The options are as I see it:
- be happy with the card as is
- flash a compatible higher wattage bios
- shunt mod
- buy a card with dual bios if you’re really worried about bricking one
- buy the card with the highest PL (which I have been saying since Gamescon)

Not everyone cares to get that last 5-10% and that’s fine. I was in the mood to fiddle so I messed with my card.

My replacement 2080Ti came in today. While I was waiting I was checking out this thread and some of the posts warning about multi-rail power supplies which made me check out my own power supply. It's an Antec HCP1300, it has four 12V rails rated for 50 amps each, so I'm fairly sure we're good on that, but the layout of the connectors has me a bit concerned.

ACC_6154_DxO.jpg

The connections on the back are set up so that if you're using a high end card that demands two 8-pin, or even a 8-pin and 6-pin connection for power, it connects to the psu via a 16pin connector where the power is being carried over two separate rails if I'm interpreting that correctly. Now someone had posted earlier that running a gpu over two different rails could be a problem, I had never given this much thought before as this is the way Antec has designed this power supply!

So my question is whether this is actually something that could damage a card. I had previously been running a Titan X (Pascal) and I've even had two running in SLI before on this power supply without issue, so it's not as if it's never sipped on enough power before to reveal a flaw.

I haven't had any other issues on my PC like some have experienced, so no reason to think the power supply is failing. The old 2080Ti just started artifacting in the middle of a game and died. Popped back in the Titan X for the last week an no further problems. Perhaps I was just unlucky with getting a bad card and I'm now overthinking this psu issue. Appreciate any thoughts on this before I start installing the new 2080Ti.

Got my PNY RTX 2080 XLR8 Dual Fan on friday. Probably gonna slap a waterblock on it (Bitspower)

I just wish I could find a modded bios that ups the power limit on it, it's currently 255w :(

Check out the Overclock.net 2080 ownership forum. That's where I found out the EVGA XC Ultra bios worked on my Windforce OC. It allows a 130% power target instead of 109% which is worse than a FE card. But you've got to make darn sure the BIOS is ok to use. If it doesn't, you might be able to flash the original back if you put in a second video card to run the system with.

This isn't "trivial" modding as you are forcing a different manufacturer's BIOS onto your card. Make no mistake you are putting an $800 card at risk. It doesn't bother me too much as I'm familiar with the process and I can accept the risk but if you can't afford to replace your video card... leave the BIOS alone and just cool the card as best you can and it will clock up pretty well.

Just sent an email to PNY asking them if they would consider releasing new BIOS versions like Gigabyte just did.

If I knew how to modify a BIOS, I would just save my bios with GPUZ and edit the settings myself. Not brave enough to flash another manufacturer bios quite yet given PNY told me my card isnt reference.

I downloaded and ran it. I dont use this so I don't know how helpful this is to you.

My system is 8700 non-k,16 GB ram at 3066, 1 TB nvme 960 pro, Zotac 2080 ti Triple Fan

Thanks. Looks like your Zotac is getting a nicer score than me, a little less than 10%. Not bad.

So my question is whether this is actually something that could damage a card.
Any decent power supply should have multiple layers of protection. I don't think under normal circumstances that it would damage the card.

But I honestly don't know all that much about PSUs, I just know my machine was on the fritz and somehow a new PSU fixed it.

Anybody wanna argue with PNY that this is actually a reference design? They told me it isnt. Besides the branding of resistors and VRMS, the layout looks identical to reference if you ask me.

I included a reference 2080 pcb for comparison

If one of those is a reference board then the rep you spoke with just didn't know what they were talking about.

if i end up having issues with my 2080 Ti the first thing i'm doing is replacing my 7 year old Corsair AX850 power supply. there seems to be a strong link between issues with RTX cards and proper power supply.

If you want a new power supply, the EVGA Supernovas have been good to me. Have that in my Ryzen/Vega rig with no problems.

Same one is in my Turing rig. Seems working, the only issue is some slight audio static on the 3.5mm jack. I got a USB audio adapter for $10 that should fix this, but just letting you know.

I installed the replacement card. Unfortunately, I still got a crash to desktop on Far Cry 5. I'm thinking that may be a game/driver issue rather than the hardware (it may be SLI related as well, but if you're running Surround I don't think you can disable SLI).

However, I also tried 3dmark, Heaven (1 hour loop), and 30 minutes on SotTR, and things were alright. Luckily, no blue screens or other issues I was having before (not booting Windows, etc.). So I think my machine is okay now, will do more testing tomorrow.

I found a evga 2080ti to complete my system. I'm selling the asus dual fan I got 2 weeks ago as our local stores are doing final sale. I'm hoping to sell it to some [H] member who wants a 2080ti and is having a hard time finding one.

got my 2080 ti Strix Saturday and installed idle 32c load 62c
Core clock running 2,055 MHz stock

all looks good so far no artifacts or problems

I guess I am 2 for 2 now for the 2080ti works fine camp. I had a good 3 hr session of FC5 pushing a 2050 OC which was pegged at VReg throttling and 15.5ghz on the ram. I followed that up with 2 hours of vermintide 2 with my friends. Card max temp was 81C with FC5 and 79C playing v2.

Stock the card does 13100 in 3dmark timespy while OC I got 14150. This doesn't translate too much on FC5 fps overall but it looks like 2080 ti cards have some decent headroom on them.

Where are you guys finding these cards? I cannot find one in stock anywhere online or in my local Microcenter.

I'm tired of waiting on MSI Sea Hawk. It might not even come out this year.
There's however a much cheaper 2080Ti in stock, Palit 2080Ti. Are Palit cards any good?

I was just in Washington last week and the sales guys there laughed at me about getting 2080ti stock. Up in Canada, we are getting decent amount of stock that every week I can find one in store if I wanted to get more ( I picked up 2 already), but prices are marked up to US prices after exchange.

Just pulled the trigger on an EVGA XC Gaming 2080ti from Best Buy. It's my birthday month and I received a 10% off any item coupon I was able to use, bringing it to $1079 and no sales tax at my location.

Plus, I have 5% cash back activated with Citi, which essentially subtracts another $54. Bringing my total price to $1025....not too shabby

with BFV releasing soon (this friday for us Origin Access suckers) is everyone set to test out ray tracing? I assume nvidia will need to release a game-ready driver. i can't seem to get windows to update to the 1809 version. just curious if anyone is expecting to test out ray tracing this friday.

I doubt DLSS or RT will be ready at launch. At least I am not holding my breath for that...with how the rest of the RTX launch has gone...lol
