Google Pixel 3

But goddamn the notifications on this iPhone suck.
I can't understand why Apple doesn't do something about their notifications. Seems like it'd be relatively easy to revise/improve them.

Well at least they allowed notifications to be grouped together in iOS 12. Baby steps I guess...

Switched over from using iPhone's since the iPhone 3G to the Pixel 3 on Google Fi and have been pretty happy with it. Plus, price was amazing. 2 - 128GB Pixel 3's for $1000 after the $800 credit from Google Fi. Monthly plan for 2 phones is $35 phone/texts + $10 taxes + $10/GB. Not too mention the included international travel which is also something I use a lot. The $20/day on verizon for the same thing was annoying and getting a new sim was not always easy in some countries.

That's an amazing deal, and no brainier.

I really love my Pixel 3 XL

I've been thinking about switching from T-Mo to Google Fi. Right now, my T-Mo plan is unlimited talk/text/data (w/10GB 4G LTE) for $50/month prepaid. I rarely use more than 500MB data/month, though.

I’m also on T-Mobile and looked at Project Fi. But since I have 4 lines on my plan and I by myself use 15+ GB per month their calculator told me it was basically not worth it.

Project Fi is for people that don't use alot of data and don't want to overpay for a plan they are not using all the data on each month.

I would say that it's really only for people who use data internationally. I mean a Cricket or Total Wireless plan is $35 with 5GB of LTE data on either AT&T or Verizon towers. You can only hit 1.5GB on Fi before you are paying more and you have to deal with Tmobile and Sprint (with no good way to switch between the two if you don't have good reception). And if Tmobile is your thing anyway, you can get a 10GB Mint plan for $25 a month (I wanted it to work for me, but I just don't get good enough service with Tmobile at my house).

^^^ FWIW, Signal Spy allows you to switch between providers on the fly and does not require root.

I like fi, but I sit right at 1-2gb a month total on two phones.

he Black Friday Verizon deal is what the phones should be sold for regularly from Google .

$600 for the small Pixel 3.
$700 for the Pixel 3 XL .

I think that would be way more fair and help these sell a lot more. But the Verizon deal ? You can't buy the phones outright for that price can you ? Prob a monthly payment discount only ?

I think Google should be selling the pixel line in that middle bracket price range, meaning more expensive than a OnePlus phone because the Pixel phones are a bit better package overall, but they shouldn't be priced near Samsung Galaxy Note or iPhone Max pricing they should be in that middle between OnePlus and a Note. So like $749 for the Pixel 3 XL should be the standard 128GB price from Google.

Only reason I bought the Pixel 3 XL, was the deal I got $855 grand total w/tax and shipping. I refuse to pay $1,000+ for a cellphone.

With the Black Friday discount bringing the 3 XL down to $699. It's a no brainer MUST BUY.

Really there's no other phone better at that price. Monthly security updates direct from Google. Smooth stock vanilla Android. Best camera of 2018. Beautiful Samsung display. All the cool Google Assistant features baked into the phone.

If it only had the DAC of the V30 - V40 it would be the perfect phone for me.

To some extent it really boils down to "I like customization, so I chose Android."

It's a solid look at the Pixel 3, but I'd have liked to have seen a more nuanced take where he notes if there's anything he missed.
Coming from a YouTube channel called Android Police I’m not surprised at all that they “switched” from an iPhone.

Android Police is like the top website for Android phone news. They always post new app release .apk, and posts on upcoming ohones

That review also lost all credibility when they advertised those headphones. While I understand the need for sponsorship, but choose better products from the sponsors. I checked out the reviews on Amazon. Only way I'd buy that is if they paid me to. I guess I'm just like Android Police...

I like sites like here and Linus because they don't advertise utter crap.

Well since the DAC isn't built into the phone anymore, you can get a comparable or better external USB C DAC at least if you're willing to pay for it.

It would be cool if Google discounted the Pixel 2/2 XL for BF as well, as the 2 XL would be a great value at $400-$500 too IMO. They will still get 2 more years of OS and security updates. It's hilarious that Google still has the 2 up for sale at $650 and only knocked the 2 XL down to $700; why dafuq would anyone get the 2 for only $50 less then other than if they preferred the smaller form factor (which I don't think is really that much smaller due to those large bezels).

Ugh, the stock dark theme from Google is very amateur and unprofessional looking, when compared to these absolutely amazing pieces of art like this. Why does Google themselves put out a half assed poor dark theme, when regular Joe's can create fantastic themes like these below?

Swift Dark theme;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftdark.substratum&hl=en_US

Swift Black theme;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers&hl=en_US

Pitch Black theme;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pitchblack.origins.westcrip

Plus Google's theme doesn't really do it properly. A text message will still come in as a white notification, even though you have it set to Dark Mode. So only the Messages app itself will be dark, but get a new text and you'll see it blinding white still :(

With Substratum themes, it's system wide EVERYTHING gets themed. There's zero white notifications, no white hiccups here or there, it all gets themed the color you chose, deep down into the entire phone.

Why Google can't do this, but part timer programmers can for fun, is crazy.

Running the Swift Black theme compared to the stock Google Dark mode, is night and freaking day in quality, and artistic value. These Sub themes are a million times better designed.

^^ Use Textra for SMS/MMS. It has a built-in dark mode and is the best Android messaging app, IMO.

The reason is because the GUI designers at Google are hacks who couldn't make it at Apple and are living out their iOS wannabe fantasies. It's the only explanation for why they like to ape Apple whenever possible.

I'm going to try Substratum, again, when I get a Pixel 3 XL. Never could get it to work properly on my 2 XL.

It works flawlessly for me. Zero issues. And any problems would just be a newly updated app, and the theme hasn't been updated yet.

Thanks for the pointer to Substratum.
If Substratum applies it's dark theme to Notifications wouldn't it be showing as being applied to the notifications that you can see in their screenshot? In their product description it only mentions that it modifies apps.

A potential leak for a Google Pixel 3 Lite has surfaced.

- 5.56" IPS 2220x1080 Screen
- Snapdragon 670
- 4GB of RAM
- 2915mAh Battery
- Same 12MP Rear Camera & 8MP Front Camera as on the Pixel 3
- 3.5mm Headphone Jack

If this is priced right, preferably around $400-500, then this will be an amazing phone and I will purchase it to replace my Essential Phone. Only downside I've read is that it has 32GB internal storage with no expandable microSD slot. But maybe they'll have a 64GB option?

I'm all over that to replace my OG Pixel... why didn't they come out with that first?!?
Probably to not hurt their Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL sales. Many people who buy Pixel phones buy them solely because of the camera. If they released a $400-500 Pixel 3 Lite that has the same camera performance as the $800-$1000 higher end options then I have a feeling a LOT of people would've opt'd for the Lite and saved themselves hundreds of dollars. Now that all the dust has settled, its time to bring out this bad boy.
