The point is whites of European descent are being trained to think that when they are replaced, race is just skin color and means nothing. For other races, they know its much more than that and they do not accept being replaced.

Look, I get why people are annoyed with it. They aren't hiring various races of people for these roles because they were the best actors they could get (afford), but instead looking for an actor to check off a diversity box first and hope they have some acting skills later. But this seems the way Hollywood is going to be doing business going forward and so the best we can hope for is that they at least make it a great show. Hopefully on par with the Punisher series and less like the Iron Fist series.

Given the number of bad to downright terrible video game movies there has been the past 20 years. The odds are already against this show being worth watching.

It was never supposed to be faithful to the video game, it was supposed to be faithful to the books and that was stated very clearly. Seems they ignored that.
If this is the way Hollywood is going (has been this way for many years actually) that does not mean we have to be quiet about it. Though bitching about it here does exactly nothing but let some folks express their opinion.

Netflix's racial casting decisions is nothing but to fit their personal political persuasions and their personal white-guilt. So pretty terrible all around.

No idea who she is, but Anya Chalotra looks close enough to Yennifer. If the OP didn't tell me she was Indian I wouldn't have known. In this case it is no big deal. Kind of like I rolled my eyes when that recent Asian film got blasted for having a non-Chinese / Han guy play a Chinese-Singaporean guy or whatever. It doesn't make a difference.

This "thing" that is playing for Triss though.... yeah don't see it working.

Witcher doesn't take place in fantasy Poland, but rather fantasy Europe. Everything from the clothing style, weaponry, structures scream old Europe. So yeah I'd expect a European feel with pretty much whites only. You'd ruin the setting if you changed that. Just like an Asian fantasy film with dragons and crap. Yeah it isn't real, but I still expect to see old Asian style weapons, structures, clothing and... pretty much only Asians.

It will be good or it won't. The color of the actors and or actresses has little impact on that for me.
 
Triss is pretty much the anchor of the whole thing. She's ultimately going to be just as important as the interplay between Ben Browder and Claudia Black in Farscape. They either NAIL both the complex roles AND the chemistry between these two or the whole series is hosed.

At this point I think producers got woke to the idea that they can scapegoat racism when the show flops. So a win-win.

They can virtue signal how progressive and inclusive they are by casting people of color into an eastern european middle ages folk tale. And when the show bombs they can wash their hands of all blame coz racism, oh and don't forget to mention toxic masculinity.

You're missing the point, just so you can hurl an insult. Whether its books or video games or TV show to movie, They can't always cater to the small crowd when trying to attract the large crowd. And this still proves my point, I (and I'm sure millions of others) don't know much about the game OR THE BOOKS, and so whatever casting decision they make doesn't offend or affect me\us at all.

Game of Thrones departed from the books and is doing fine, The Walking Dead departed from the comic books and did fine, The Haunting of Hill House departed from the book and seems to be a hit

If seeing a few blacks in a fantasy Europe settings ruins the setting for you, then you are way too focused on race. It's fantasy, they can make the whole area one big mix race country and it doesn't matter. The second I have to accept there are witches, monsters and magic, I stop caring about whether the cultural makeup of the area is accurate.

1. Skin color shouldn't matter, but the same groups that by and large tell us it shouldn't matter continue to engage in a campaign of white removal. The hypocracy only makes thing worse for everyone.

2. Context, the Witcher series is a white series, it takes place in fantasy polish Europe. Non- whites would be pretty limited. If this was flipped to any other culture the accusations and outrage over white washing would be enormous. For example Ghost in the Shell. Either they are wrong and race washing isn't a problemz, or it is. More hypocracy.

3. Most important, there is a reason for get woke go broke. When you shoe horn in political messages, virtue signalling, and diversity, the end product so far has always suffered. When a product is built ground up for diversity, it works (The Wire), when it's shoe horned in it never does (Ghost busters).

I have to say, even Disney keeps things true to the stories.. like you never see a Black Cinderella, white Tiana or a trans playing as Mulan.

I am kind of split. I feel more strongly about the main characters being represented truthfully than the others.

I’ll give it a chance. Lost in Space was great and was made by Netflix.

It's canon. Steve Rogers took over the job for a while. It would work for Avenger 4. BP is gone, Wakanda needs a figure head replacement and lets Steve hide in plain sight while allowing him to act. His heightened abilities are a good match for BP. It works so well, they may actually do it and then watch people lose their shit.

Wow the page for it was cringeworthy. It's basically a hit-piece.

Whoever edits that page has no idea what the alt-right is(and isn't) and seems to randomly assign labels to some people.
It quotes, not an actual scientific paper, but a Vox article in which a quasi-scientific paper was mentioned. The validity of the paper is highly suspect. I've skimmed through it and found a few red flags. It wasn't peer-reviewed as far as I can gather, it has an incredibly low citation number, many of which are agenda driven trash fodder, and it uses a thing called Hatebase to determine if "hate speech" is being used. It seems anyone can add a term to Hatebase and context is absent so....um....it seems like you'd get something akin to a weaponized leftist version of Urban Dictionary or some such bullshit. Hell, if the researchers were shady enough, they could have added more or less innocent terms that are common in right-of-center vernacular simply to rig the result of this form of highly questionable and lazy 'research'.

If I'll bother diving deeper or not...well...depends on how bored I get.

I can say, if I used social media I would absolutely have a Gab account.

It might be good, but usually its a sign the writing will be filled with identy politics propaganda. It's not the race of the actor that's the problem. It means there's a good probability they went out of their way to get a POC and that this will affect the quality of the writing. As the writing will not only bring up social and political issues which does happen in fiction, it will be activist grade one-sided propaganda.

Disney hasn't done anything anywhere even close to being possibly maybe anyone within the same zip code as the story it is based off of. The only thing that sometimes is true to the story in Disney films is the title, sometimes.

Only problem I have is if she was good at casting and beat out others, then it's legit. If they picked her because they needed diversity, and was not as good as other actress's, then that is a fail.
Just pick the best actress for the job.
