Hey,

Long story short:
I'm currently using a Seasonic PRIME Titanium 1000W, but when playing certain games (with strongly varying loads), the PC is shutdown.
I first thought it is a thermal issue with my Vega FE, but now, after some googling, I'm pretty sure that the OPP/OCP of the PSU kicks in.

So, which PSU should I buy for a TR1950X + Vega FE (possibly a Dual-GPU rig in the future)?
The price isn't that important, I just want a premium PSU that WORKS! 300€ should be enough.

Cheers!

P.S. I'll probably never buy a Seasonic PSU again, I'm furious...

have there been any new components added recently? if so thats where i would start. what does the rest of your rig consist of? assuming its the psu without testing to confirm can be an expensive mistake. can you test the psu rails under load with a multi meter? can you test your rig with a back up psu?

Seasonic has long been considered top tier for PSU. If... IF.. the problem is the PSU, Seasonic has a 12 year warranty on that model.

Sounds like it may have multiple 12v rails? If so you have to balance them in order for it to run stable.

try distributing the load between two cables and if no luck get in touch with the rep that just posted.

Hi All,

Thanks for your support.

I already do...

It's a massive single 83A rail

No components added or changed.
Rest of the rig:
TR 1950X (stock) @ ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme
4x 16GByte DDR4-3200 CL14

I could try to test it with a DMM, but I don't think the voltage breaks in.
No backup PSU at the moment unfortunately.

Problem is that I *need* this workstation for my daily work. Not being able to use it for a couple of weeks (the time the RMA process takes) is absolutely unacceptable.
I will contact the Seasonic rep...

I think some of their early batches of primes have this overly aggressive OCP issue, I returned one of my 750s (I have bought at least a dozen seasonics in the last 3 years) that did similar to this with a build that was nowhere near max load (quad i7, 6+8 pin gpu). Drove me a bit nuts.

FWIW one of my TRs is 1950X + FE and another is 1950X + V64 and both are fine with just the 850 titanium, so I think you are on the right track. The 1000W was more than enough for a 2990WX and dual titans looping gpu benches, rebuilt that box to something else already.

Ask them to do a cross-ship, I haven't done with seasonic yet but several other good vendor RMAs will do that if you agree to a hold on your credit card. (should not be charge unless they never get your return)

Hi,

You should have got an E-Mail now ([email protected]).

Thanks!

//EDIT:
A replacement PSU (Titanium Prime ULTRA) should arrive tomorrow.
I paid a deposit via PayPal which I will get back after the old PSU arrived at Seasonic (or the German rep)

//EDIT 2:
PSU arrived today (next day shipping!) and at the moment, it seems like the issue as fixed.
I will do further benchmarks, but I could not reproduce the shutdowns with the new PSU.
Also, I got an upgrade to PRIME ULTRA :)
Thank you, Seasonic!
