Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards are dying on a lot of users

Sure you want to install that water block if your card could potentially fail?

The waterblock probably won't be installed until the end of November. I feel like ~2 months of heavy use will expose any of these launch problems.
 
Definitely seems like Nvidia is having a issue with these cards, far to many complaints. Would make me a bit weary to buy these cards if I was considering them to see if Nvidia can fix the issues, especially since half the gpu is still not even being used.
 
I think I'm going to RMA. Like I said my card was fine for over a month (launch pre-order), now Windows won't even recognize it and booting up with the drivers installed results in black screen crashing within seconds.

Guess we'll find out how good (or awful) Zotac's RMA process is.

let us know how it goes. i have a Zotac card as well.
 
I'm curious if this can be isolated to a specific batch, OEM, etc.
I definitely believe it's a real issue, but I'd love to know how widespread it actually is. The Nvidia forums are notoriously bad thanks to the number of inexperienced users and that Sora guy blaming everything on anything other than Nvidia.
If you hunt through the people with issues, it seems like there is a lot of cross posting. Again, I think it's a real issue, but it could be a small group of super vocal people.
 
The card is super expensive and the people who buy it are going to be very vocal. I doubt it's a widespread issue just based on that alone, but who knows.
 
Out of curiosity, are people recommending using a single power cable or two for these cards? I'm on a Corsair HX1000 and have had no issues for what it's worth.
On day 1 I hooked it up using 2 separate cables, but went to a single cable (using both connectors) just to neaten things up a few weeks later.

I always used 2 separate cables since Fermi and never had issues since. But I did have a similar issue to the 2080Ti's with my GTX 580 on a single cable.

If I was OCing I would definitely use two cables IMO. With a Galax card it gets up to 380W. That’s getting up there...
 
I'll point out that the card doesn't seem to cap it's power all that well. If you set for example 124% for TDP - I see spikes up to 130%. That's a lot of power if you aren't ready for it.
 
It seems odd to me that people are getting bad cards after RMA as well.

I'm sure there are some cards with issues, but again, I think it is very likely due to this cards insane power requirements (And I would argue poor power throttling given what i'm seeing from logs - A bios update likely needs to be released that smooths this out a bit) that folks are assuming the card is bad when it is in fact their PSU.
 
I think PSU may play a big factor in this. I recall some [H] members noting something about the PSU being used, multi rails versus single rail design. RTX seems to be a real power hog compared to last generation.

This hits 350w easy with 124% power slider and the spikes above.

I think the main issue is how this thing spikes with power usage. No matter where I set the TDP max to it'll spike 10% above that target easy. I guarantee some PSU's just aren't handling this well.
 
So I installed the replacement card. Overall things look to be working, but I still got a crash to desktop in FC5. I think it's likely a game/driver issue at this point. No blue screens as of yet.

The system seems stable in general: Night Raid, Heaven on loop for 1 hour, and about 30 minutes of SotTR. Haven't had too much time with it, so I will continue testing to be sure.
 
EVGA RTX 2080ti OC Edition headed back this morning. Running super hot, 83-90c on 100% FANS. Lot's of stuttering almost like a throttling on/off on/off kind of feeling. My case is very well ventilated. My prior 1080FE ran for years at max of 76c. I'm starting to see weird pixelated shadows in gaming as well...Assassins Creed Odyssey, We happy few, and more. I'm not running any OC other than the small stock OC from EVGA. I have a new card arriving today direct from NVIDIA this time but after visiting their forums I'm pretty damn concerned that I'll be part of the RMA game soon. I'll update this afternoon after some heavy gaming.

I just played two hours of Call of Duty Black Ops 4 for about 2 hours just had one lockup (could of been the game) except when the enemy was out of bounds no blue screen but it's a EVGA 2080

Good to know. I might go back to two cables even if it doesn't look as clean I'm not OC'ing right now (there's no real need), but I'm sure that'll change once games start pushing harder or use RTX features.

Most people (this forum included) still have way more PSU power than necessary for their PC. I mean cybereality has a 1500W PSU, that thing can do 3-4 cards. I run a heavily OC'd CPU and a 1080ti on 125% power and I still stay under 600W.
 
It should, but a lot of PSU's out there are frankly piles of crap and the wattage rating means nothing.

Also, this card spikes over 300watts easily if you crank the power slider up.

makes me wonder if the crud Nv gave AMD in regards to RX 4xx and in flip sight some 5xxx were "breaking" specs has not turned the tables on them (once again, not first time they failed SIG spec themselves)

75w for 6 pin 150 for 8 pin plus the 75 from the "slot" itself, but yep, very much depends on quality of the PSU being used (how it handles the power delivery etc) as well as if the GPU is delivering the power properly as well, fancy voltage regulator chips can only handle so much, hard to regulate something that is too irregular from the get go ^.^

(even though your using Ngreedia) I personally feel sorry for anyone having issues with their system (especially with mucho expensive GPU like 20 series) the downtime and extra money as well as frustration sucks ass :(

Well I ran single card using a year-old Seasonic PRIME Titanium 850w and my card died all the same. Unless there is a better PSU I should have been using, I'm pretty sure mine wasn't the problem. The card ran perfectly for over a month and then WHAM, dead. They have a major problem on their hands and blaming PSU's isn't the solution.
 
NVIDIA has finally acknowledged the issues with the RTX 2080 Ti according to some sites. Whether or not that really means anything is a good question.
 
Sometimes those big power supplies can trip out circut breakers because alot of houses like all houses were not mean to power PCs.

What the? 99.9% of PCs will not run over 15A , the rare ones that do are the ones like the TR2 2990wx, with SLI & Crossfire etc.

Basic household circuits are 15A / 1875W , you'd need to be pulling over 1875W to pop that breaker.

If that is the only thing running on that leg, most are running multiple outlets and lighting as well.

Bit of hyperbole there but I do hope they get smacked a bit for this launch. It will be interesting to see what is the cause of the cards prematurely dying. And again I feel sorry for those who spent the big bucks to buy the ti version and are now having to deal with this BS.

then you know little or nothing about house wiring and breakers, lightning are always separated on the breaker box, and also rooms are in separated breakers, at most and worse you will find two bedrooms sharing one or two outlets in a single breaker again... it would be able to handle two modern gaming PC easily even if both pull 900W each on the same shared outlet... air conditioners, 240V stuff and lightning are always separated, more than 24K BTU air conditioner and integral air tend to even have their own breaker to avoid issues with the rest of the house..

Most modern houses have better circuit isolation , right now I'm running an 8700k @ 4.8ghz, 1080ti, 32" monitor, system, + Ryzen 5 2600, RX480, and 27" monitor, on a single 15A breaker, and it has never tripped. On most uses, the machines are pulling less than 1000W combined from the wall. (at least according to my UPS). (both running games for example)

No you just think houses are all modern. My house was built in 1954 and I can assure that each breaker that I converted from Edison fuses is running lighting and outlets, dont assume. Hell 1 of my breakers runs two outlets in the kitchen and the dining room outlets and the dining room lights, how it was done back in the day.
