NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

If you’re using vented side cover, you have more options of exhausting warm air.
- 2x120mm bottom intake with 2x120mm side exhaust will work, but still warmer than...
- 2x120mm side intake with 2x120mm bottom exhaust. Difference is about 5-10c
so for this one, 4 NF-A12x25 PWM would be idea? What cooler would I put with that, and still a 92 on the back? Really gotta get this mapped out so I can start piecing it together LOL
I know it has been covered before, I appreciate taking the time to respond.

Any comments or suggestion for this build that im going to order? It's my first time building in sff case and help will be much appreciated. Currently onboard the vessel and will order this when i come home in the philippines.

Case: Ncase m1
Mobo: asus z390i or asrock z390 phantom gaming itx?
Procie: i7-8700k(transfer from my current build)
Cpu cooler: scythe kabuto 3(my first choice was noctua u9s but i also want to cool my mobo and other parts too thats why i chose this cooler other than noctua c14 which is hard to find and dark rock tf which has compatability issues with mobo and ram)
Ram: G. Skill Trident Z RGB(2x8gb) 3200 mhz
Ssd: Samsung 960 evo 500gb (transfer from my current build)
Hdd: Wd caviar blue 3tb (transfer from my current build)
Gpu: Gigabyte windforce oc 1080 (transfer from my current build)
Psu: silverstone 650w sfx gold or corsair sf600 platinum?

Case fan: 2 noctua nf-a12x25 at the bottom as exhaust and 1 from the side as intake and 1 nf-a9(if it could fit)

Arctic Accelero Extreme 3 for gpu

And i'm also planning to delid my procie using the rockit 88 delid tool with copper IHS upgrade and the Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra Compound(Liquid metal) as replacement for the intel stock thermal paste.

Mainly for gaming only.

If you want 4x A12x25, you’ll need to get your hands on the discontinued-and-almost-impossible-to-find Noctua C14. With a C14S, you can use up to five 120mm fans. It will be a very expensive setup (almost $150 just in fans!). The C14 would also likely cost a lot ($100+) if you can actually find one. An alternative would be to use the C14S with 2x A12x25 exhaust on bottom. With a vented side panel, you can use 2x A12x15. Just be sure that the fan under the C14S and the side fans are moving in the same direction. The rear fan can help blowing cold air in, if main exhaust is via bottom. If you’re using the stock140mm fan underneath the C14S, you will need low profile ram (eg Corsair Vengeance LPX, with no lights), and also mounted the SFX PSU at a right angle. This means you will need a SFX-ATX bracket, along with the M1 ATX bracket. I can’t remeber which ones came with the M1 case, and which you’ll need to purchase separately.

After typing all that on my phone , I realize how many steps you’d need to take... you could also consider using a U9S, with fan blowing towards rear of case. 92mm fan exhaust mounted on case rear, and a A12x25 on the side bracket, front spot. GPU can be self sufficient with Accelero III and bottom fans set to exhaust, or just stock gpu with bottom fans set to intake.

I have a Noctua C14 left, I could put them in the Sales area here on the forum if someone want it.

I'm partial to Asus boards, so I'd say the Asus but I don't think you can go wrong either way. I'm also partial to the Corsair line of PSUs. My Silverstone SF450 had an annoying coil whine at loads, the Corsair SF450 has 'something' of a noise there but definitely not a loud whine like before. I'd go the Corsair PSU wise.

Thank you for your suggestion. I just wanted to clarify if there will be an issue on my cpu cooler because of that giant looking I/O shield. I guess i'll go with the corsair sf600 just dont know when the platinum be available again.

sf 600 platinum, I have only seen the gold. Which is on amazon at the moment.

what psu do you currently use? anandtech's review of the 450 platinum suggests it's a very similar fan but pwm. I'm eager to hear if that makes a difference vs. the sf600 gold, even anecdotally

I have the SF450 gold. Will try to test it this weekend if I have my new part. I'm trying to put a 9900k in the M1 hehe.

Do you think a build with an intel i9 9900k and an nvidia rtx 2080 will produce good temperature in the Ncase?

Hey guys quick question on cooling. Going through my stock of parts and found an unused Noctua NH-C12P SE14.

Would that be better for overclocking in the Ncase than my existing NH-U9S? I currently have it vertical with two fans pushing upwards and a third fan outside the rear vent as an exhaust.

I am also using the HDD cage - figment shouldn’t be an issue right?

Ok I deserved this answer
Let me rephrase. Is the cooling capacity of the N1 case good enough for such load?

Dunno, I've never heard of an N1 case before.

All joking aside, welcome to the forums. The M1 is capable of handling a lot of heat. Under synthetic stress tests the 9900k can reach pretty high temps. That's to be expected when you clock eight cores to 5.0ghz and beyond. But under a real load they won't be as hot. A good rule of thumb is figuring out the most effective way to get the heat out.

I believe that if you use the U9S exhausting with side 120mm intake option, as well as an accelero iii on the gpu with exhausting 120mm fans, you should be more than okay with temps.

I've got a C12p SE14 cooling a stock clock 4770k. I even upgraded the fan to the newer 150mm circular Noctua that uses 140mm fan mounts. It stays nice and quiet under any real workload or game, but it hits 100c in prime95 small ffts if that matters for you.

If you don't have a fan to pair it with yet, the new A12 Noctua fans may actually work better because of how much overhang there is on the larger fans, but I haven't taken the $30 plunge to find out.

I also haven't replaced the thermal compund since 2013...

I want buy one for my c14S

Anyone who intends to put a 9900k in his m1 I can say it works quite well, Temps are not different from a 8700k

My setup
Board: asrock z370 Fatal1ty itx gaming with the latest bios
Graka:1080ti founders
Water aio : corsair h100i pro , it fits really well

Anyway Temps

Cinebench all ore at 4,7ghz around 70C peak
Aida 64 Stresstest without Stresstest fpu after 5 min 60-70 C with peaks 75C
Idle around 30C with dips below at 20C room temp
Gaming around 50-60C

Thank you! Just for curiosity, do you use any other fan other then the aio cooler? (Maybe underneath the gpu..)

Yes I do, got 2 under the gfx as intake mostly for the gpu but I guess there is some air for other parts too :)

I did install a 92mm on the back as intake it didn't fit inside the case because of the aio so I mounted it it on the outside

Later I will add some pictures

The asrock z370 Fatal1ty itx can handle AVX stuff at 4700mhz allcore. The board got a powerlimit at 200 watt. At 5ghz and no powerlimit its goes up to 100° and 250+ watt - and still gets faster.

So someone has to find the sweetspot for itx use. At 95 watt its still faster than an 8700k on stock clocks.

I just don't care vor avx or that stupid prime+avx that is not a normal usage, in every game or productive programs the temps are just fine

Yes sure if you go all ore 5ghz it will relay go up in Temps but I am just fine with alle core 4,7 mixt in with one ore 2 cores at 5ghz, I would say the best thing would be maybe max 4 - 6 cores at 5ghz and left 2 cores normal so the CPU can switch between them to cool down

hi everyone,,,

anybody knows if a gaingward 1080ti phoenix golden sample would fit in the ncase m1?

Cooling : 2.5 Slot Fan cooler

Product Size : 285mm x 133mm

thank you!

I'd like to see Grendell's AIO. I have an old C14, but if the new corsair unit fits real nice I might switch.

If this was a 2-slot card, I think you'd be OK, but I don't know if the extra thickness will interfere with the case's front I/O components. Also, the card's PCI-E sockets are at the top of the PCB, instead of recessed (i.e. a bit lower), so given the card's 133 height, there is only 7 mm of space for the PCI-E cables and connectors.

thank you for your response.

I won't risk buying it then.

I prefer to wait price drops and buy something that fits ok.

Which are the bet 1080Ti's to fit better in the ncase?

thanks.

There is a link to the 1080 Compatibility List in the thread's very first post which also provides technical drawings of the M1 to help you assess whether or not a card will fit. I don't know if there's a similar post for 1080 Ti cards, specifically.

Another resource listed in the opening post is the user-contributed GoogleDocs spreadsheet. Look at the tabs "Does This Fit?", "Does GPU / GPU Cooler Fit?", and "Example Builds".

Anyone put an Accelero III on their RTX card yet? My 2080FE is will run full boost if I up the fan speeds. Little bit loud (still better than the old blowers though...)

Well, sad news. According to one user over at SFF that got the Seasonic SGX-650 for his m1 -- the cables were too stiff to fit well with a full length GPU. So it would either be a lot of 90° adapters, custom cables, or just go SFX.

anybody have problems with the front usb ports? i was trying to plug in a windows usb and it wouldnt read

I've never had a problem with the usb ports. Even if I had carved it down to fit a bottom radiator...
Is this a new case / new cable?
Make sure the cable is plugged in 100%, inspect to see if cable isn't visibly damaged, etc
