So tempted to get a mobo for the 9900k but what if I cannot get the CPU any time soon???? Decisions decisions. Maybe I can just get some DDR4 RAM that works with either AMD or INTEL in case I end up with AMD instead...

GPUs, CPUs, etc off eBay? I've always felt leery about that...
You do need to be careful and go with your gut, but if you do well at garage sales and swap meets, you should be able to walk away with a good deal. And with a reputable seller like retailer stores, there's zero risk as they 100% legit.

As a buyer, there is no danger in using ebay. Unless a listing spells out that something is untested and you are buying at your own risk, listings that are usually of the type parts-only or damaged items, then you can easily return anything. I do not advocate it, but I have seen people return working parts just because they don't overclock to expectations. I have also seen buyers break parts and then return them because they were damaged.

So, you can buy without fear on ebay. I have purchased all sorts of used parts, from video cards to CPUs to SSDs to monitors. Twice I've received DOA items so I sent them back for a refund. The vast majority of my purchases have been satisfactory.

As a seller, though, there's no way I'd touch the site. Ebay doesn't stand behind sellers at all, and if they won't process a refund for a disgruntled buyer then PayPal will. I much prefer to sell things on craigslist, even if I get less money for something.

I stopped selling on eBay because of that. I had a close call on a clear scammer buyer and took me WAY too much effort to get eBay to side with me even though I have perfect selling rating and he was a new user. That was my last item sold there

If anyone is considering X470 and not wanting to wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals found some pretty solid picks. On the G.Skill memory, a Newegg reviewer confirmed timings on MSI x470 Board of 3466 with 16-18-18-36, with the 2x16GB kit.

Damn, I was thinking of putting together a threadripper 2950x based system but didn't really need it so could stop myself from pulling the trigger. Of course, now eBay throws out a coupon ... /must resist

Damn! I got xfx rx 580 gts 8gb with 1425mhz on core for like 130. That was just too good of a deal lol! I don’t even know why. I guess I’ll find somewhere to put it.

This. Ebay is a buyers playing field. I had a guy who said my item wasn't as claimed. (unlocked iphone that accepted his sim but he couldn't make it work with straight talk, I guess you have to manually apply their carrier profile) Told him to return it and then he disappeared for like, well still havn't heard from him! I updated the case to ebay and ebay actually told me if he doesnt respond in 3 days it will be closed in my favor. But hey ebay closed in his favor, but he still had to ship the item back. He could shipped me back rocks and I am sure he would have gotten his money back lol. But this guy just like disappeared. I do hope all is well with the guy. But you are right. Buyer has nothing to worry about on ebay. Unless ofcourse you buy a listing that says parts only and don't pay attention. Even then I think buyers are safe.

Good info for potential buyers and sellers. Thank you. (y)

Coupon expired?! At least that's what it said when I applied it.

Would it stand to reason we should probably expect an even bigger ebay sale before the Holidays? Have they ever done 20%? I can't remember

They have done 15% before and have had several 10% ones in recent months. Idk why ebay would offer a 20% coupon unless sales suddenly fell off a cliff. I don't see them offering huge coupons or ebay bucks rebates since people naturally spend more before the holidays anyways.

doh, who the hell sets anything expire at 8am?! I was reading that as 8pm...FML

They've done a number of 20% over the summer. I decided to hold out for a 15% off or better. I'm going to assume in the holiday season it will be less common. Perhaps I should've taken advantage of it but I don't really need anything.

Hmm, i think i've been in on every sale this summer and i don't remember any of them being 20% but maybe i'm just getting old.
