For those of you needing a healthy dose of new single player Fallout, your wishes have been granted, at least for those of you that own Fallout: New Vegas, which is likely every Fallout fan in the world. Fallout: New California is now available for download and is a built by Radian-Helix Media. It sounds like a hell of a lot of resources went into this!

Hit up DSOG for all the links and the full installation instructions. Thanks AceGoober.

Check out the video.

Fallout: New California features a huge world (around 2/3rd the size of Fallout: New Vegas’ map), offers from 6-8 hours to 15-30 hours of new gameplay, and packs 13 endings that – according to the developers – are radically different stories start to finish. The game also features 16942 lines of dialogue (14877 of which are voiced by characters and non-repeating from 60 volunteer voice actors), new textures and meshes, and 48 main quests.

Nice. I'll have to look into this.

Does anyone understand the install instructions?

I've always played the fallout games in vanilla unmodded form, so I am not familiar with the modmanager, package manager or load order they are talking about.

Wish there were more details.

From 6-8 to 15-30? So from 6 to 30? Or are the hours of 9 to 14 specifically excluded? If you play for 9 hours you are committed to play at least 6 more. It’s like someone is just rambling off numbers.

I interpreted it as 6-8 hours if you just play through the main storyline, and 15-30 if you are more of a completionist.

It's a little short for a Fallout game, but it IS free and fan developed :p

Man I wish they would do this on the fallout 4 engine. New Vegas is to buggy and crashes a lot for me, and consequently I lose my desire to play a little more after every crash, until the last straw goes on the pile.

Pot meet kettle. It's free, FFS who cares.

Noob question I guess. I finished Vegas a long time ago and didn't keep my saves. I 'assume' this mod allows for a restart from scratch?

For a fan made mod that costs zero dollars, pretty impressive.

But maybe I haven't looked at FONV in a while but the graphics looked a little low res. I did buy it, I just never played it. Hey, Steam backlog, don't judge :(

I assume you start from scratch. But if your NV was on Steam doesn't it keep your saves in the cloud anyway?

Damn. Looks like I'm buying New Vegas for PC. Bought it on 360 back in the day for the lounging in front of the tube knowing how many hours I would put in.

looks like they updated the file from beta 201 to beta 202 since yesterday.

I hadn't installed it yet, so I'm just going to download it again...

I don't have any of the DLC for New Vegas. The mod says that I need an Arizona extended mod for New California to work, but the Arizona mod requires all the DLC to work

ultimate edition is currently $12 on steam right now. and its worth every penny

That is dope, I hope they don't get shut down like the fallout 3 remake in the fallout 4 engine.

maybe, capital wasteland was cancelled due to the voice acting... yes, this could absolutely run into the same problem. there are ways around that, but unsure if they would be able to get them to happen since it requires resources which may not be available to the devs on F4NV

The install guide below says that none of the DLC is required...

I don't even know which version of NV I have. I bought it on Steam years after its release. I wonder if it included the DLC. I will have to check.

Crash to desktop.

When starting out, to advance the story, I need to go through the Atrium doors, once it hits the loading screen it crashes. :(

Well, it is a beta.

That is a shame though.

Did you install the latest 202 version with the latest patches?

^^ Yep, gotta make sure the 4GB patcher is ran as administrator otherwise it doesn't work quite right.

Patch 202 isn't required for the mod to run correctly. I'm running 201 and so far there isn't any issues. I know I'm going to have many, many hours into this mod because I can't just bypass anything in order to complete it in a hurry. Evidenced by completing every Fallout New Vegas Steam Achievements. :)

I've got a little over 3 hours in and so far it has been tedious yet entertaining. Some of the NPC comments are hilarious.

I will definitely be up for this. Just have to find the time to reinstall New Vegas.

I can't remember - is New Vegas less or more unstable than Fallout 3 :D

I feel like a few of the prequel quests are unable to be completed without cheating...that said.

for me, nv is more stable.

Ive had a couple bugs on this, but nothing discouraging. I do feel like the “prequel” quests were impossible to complete without cheating. Requiring a 50 level skill is a pretty high bar at character level 2.

It confused me also. I've always used Nexus mod Manager to install mods for Bethesda games but apparently Nexus mod manager is a little out of date for this specific game. Download Vortex (Should be on the Nexus Mod Manager main page at the top) Install through Vortex but you have to tell Vortex where to look for the .exe file, once you select the folder that you downloaded the mod to, it should find it and install through Vortex, you can also launch the game through Vortex too.

https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/1

So to your post, when the install instructions for New California mention Vortex, that's what it is.
