Amazon Posts Environmental Footage from Their MMO

Tech giant Amazon has their fingers in a lot of pies, and now they want to make their own games. The company bought Double Helix back in 2014, and after posting some screenshots earlier this year, Amazon Games Studios uploaded some environmental footage of an MMO called "New Worlds". According to PCGamer, the game will utilize Amazon's massive AWS backend to host thousands of players at once. Amazon has a habit of going big whenever they enter a new market, so even if MMOs or battle royale games aren't your thing, Amazon entry could have a significant impact on the rest of the gaming industry.

Fail! Not fantasy world enough, small action bars says it's going to be a console game first, PC game second, which means most likely a fail. But it is early so I guess we'll see.

I'm always open to Planetside nostalgia. PS2 is still alive and kicking.

But New Worlds definitely isn't an MMOFPS :(
 
Hmmmmm...Maybe they'll come out with an MMO where you start out as a lowly worker in their warehouse, but with luck and adventure, you can someday be an underpaid manager. (Expansions would let you into upper management) :clown:

Now that is a MMO I would paid top dollar for, plus a sub fee. Most MMOs in general become full time jobs for people. Why not make an MMO that is about working a job. Brilliant!
 
They would be better off making an industry game like Factorium or Rise of Industry, and they could do an amazon spin on it. I would pay for that.
 
Is Amazon actually going to finish this game, or will its fate be the same as Breakaway?
 
This is awful. I won't play third person, and another run everywhere kiddies game is not attractive.
 
I feel winded just listening to that guy run.
Maybe it's also because those roads look so much like the roads I'd get winded running on as a kid. Zero nostalgia for that.

Other than that... it looks like a well made environment. It's just that, if they made a whole video just to show off the environment, I expected that they'd have something to show that didn't look so... generic?
 
Am I alone here, but you take away the graphics and detail away and the only way to judge this demo was just a white guy running around hills, and we're supposed to be excited for this? I mean come on now, if this is all the creativity it takes to attract consumers (ask sheep) to another grind fest mmo then no wonder video games suck these days.

I literally see more action watching cats fuck on YouTube or girls playing soccer.
 
I think the bigger point is being missed here. This is a tech demo for other game developers showing the graphics their engine is capable of as well as their networking backend. Amazon is going to try to compete with Epic games and Unity and their big differentiator will be that they enable the Massively Multiplayer side of things with little to no effort by virtue of building everything on AWS.

Just my take on it anyway.

So the game servers are in the AWS cloud, gotcha. Just like millions of others.
 
Honestly I didn't see anything that seemed evolutionary. I mean I'll wait and see if it ends up being something, but to me that just looked like a standard tech demo.
 
I hope the main boss in this game is Jeff Bezos, and one of your main tasks are to sort out Amazon customer returns with a side quest of answering customer complaints.

I played it, it's not that great imo. It's like someone looked at Ark Survival and said "you know what would make this game super fun? let's take out the dinosaurs" or someone looked at rust and said "what if we took out like 99% of the items someone can craft and then made the best thing in the game a musket, that would be sick right?"

It's a generic survival game but it's set in colonial America which is an original but boring time period imo.
 
Definitely not a great video to get people excited, a gun running in a game with graphics from about 5 years ago. Wow, sign me up.
 
Game looked like Skyrim meets Rust to me......nothing that impressive except some fine details on the vegetation...otherwise very uninspiring game.

You would control a real life robot in their factory fulfilling orders for them AND be paying them for it! Seems like a way to lower labor costs.

You log out and the next person who logs in gets your "quest" to retrieve the sacred shoes of Nike from the Shelf of Doom!
