World War 3

Supposedly technical beta emails went out this morning. It is limited play times, but no luck here.

Be aware that the technical test has an NDA attached. Early Access is supposed to be out in November last I heard.

My interest is piqued for this one, but haven't seen all of the recent videos of gameplay yet. Is it a happy medium between Call of Battlefield and ARMA?

It definitely does not look as hardcore as ARMA, but the weapon handling does look more realistic than your typical COD or BF clone. The game itself looks a lot like Battlefield 4.

It looks like the vehicles are more detailed than BF4. That was something I was hoping for in BF5. You have APS and ERA as an example for tanks.

Overall in terms of quality it looks a lot rougher than BF3/4. But my understanding is this will be in Early Access for a long time. Not something I am a fan of. Even though it is using UE4 I doubt it will look as good as DICE's graphics in the long run though. I doubt they have the funding or staffing to make a game look that pretty. Weapon animations are pitiful right now as an example.

Ok, cool. I do like ARMA so it's not like I'm hoping it's dumbed down... but sometimes I don't want to play ARMA in a competitive scenario. I never minded the look of Battlefield 4, but never got too into it as Battlefield 3 soured me a bit with multiplayer.

I think success will hinge on their server/netcode performance and whether players can host dedicated servers after release.

I would totally host a dedicated server if that's the case. Damn X79 build w/32GB RAM just sitting collecting dust after I gave up with Hackintosh in light of High Sierra changes.

Decent hands-on from Kotaku...

https://www.kotaku.com.au/2018/08/battlefield-5-has-a-problem-and-its-name-is-world-war-3/

And it does look like Farm51 is intending to introduce interesting innovations to gameplay, like these tidbits...

Perhaps one of the coolest touches is the free-look camera. If you're playing a game like PUBG, you'll use this a lot as a way to scan the horizon for enemies. It's important in large-scale shooters as well, but WW3 has two neat twists.

Firstly, if you're holding down the button, the game will let you continue firing at a spot while you look around. It's basically in place so you can lay covering fire for allies while scanning the vicinity. Secondly: when you let go of free-look, your aim will snap to the current centre of your view - so if you're looking around and spot an enemy, you can let go of a button and immediately start laying fire on them. WW3 will even shift your aim across if you were already laying down covering fire elsewhere.

Dawid Biegun, the game's PR manager, showed me an even neater addition in a closed-doors session. While tanks are meant to provide a dominating force on the battlefield, and infantry are equipped with rockets and other strikes to combat that, there's also another way they can fight back.

Vehicles essentially have two main modes of health: the tank's overall HP, which can't be repaired, and the health of their communications optics, gun sights, and the gunnery controls themselves (or remote controller weapon station, RCWS). Engineers can repair the latter three at any point during a fight, and infantry can also target each of the systems on a tank - if they know where to shoot.

A quick burst from a rifle is all that's needed to knock, say, the gunnery sights out. You can still shoot with the regular camera, of course, and a tank can't be brought offline by Leroy Jenkins and his AK-47. But the agency is the cool factor here: while copping a tank shell is a one-way route back to the deployment screen, players on both sides of the conflict will have tools that they can respond with. If you're out of RPG rockets, you can still try and even the playing field by knocking out the gunnery sights, dropping a smoke, and giving the rest of your team a little more breathing room.

This looks pretty cool, looks like a rebirth of BF2: Tight, gimmick-free gunplay on large maps.

i'll take the ugly graphics as long as the game plays good and doesn't feel like i'm playing call of duty/battlefield..

Imagine if they can get close to Battlefield graphics. I'd be pretty happy.

UI colors could use some work to. They just look ugly. Some of the sharp greens and whatnot stand out too much.

I might finally purchase a early access game....kinda looks like a new bf4 type of game, which is what i been waiting for! Sucks the BF franchise went to shit!

28 bucks i'll bite.. i mean there's no way in hell it could be worse than pubg which i originally said was going to be my last early access game i ever buy.. just wish it was coming out on a monday or something so i could actually play it when it comes out, work double shifts from wed to sunday :(

After taking a chance on Sandstorm Insurgency along with Post Scriptum I'm really worried about small team military games.
You are better off sticking to the guys with UBI and EA or even Activison.

from the videos I watched I think and hope this game plays more like bf3 than 4. honestly I think bf went to shit with bf4 and it came back some with bfv. I've played every bf and bf4 just does not have the feel of older bf games. I could not put over 10 hours in bf4. it has the features of battlefield but the maps are designed in a way to make it feel like a deathmatch game. most of the team ends up with 20 deaths which is just really bad map design. my friend who is fairly new to battlefield and I played the bfv beta and enjoyed it. then when it ended we played bf4, and both of us agreed bfv had better gameplay. and its not like bf4 is a stale game to us. we both had less than 5 hours in it.

yeah. insurgency isn't that bad. post scriptum looks really rough. from the videos I've watched of ww3 it looks pretty polished. I like that the maps are real locations, you don't see that much. day one buy for me.

Still needs a lot of polish but I may get it at $28. Yeah I may end up shooting myself in the foot, but BF4 is getting old. I still enjoy it but I assume the player base will drop a good bit when BFV comes out.

Not really. I mean if your play in TDM yes it plays like a deathmatch game (that is the point) but the Conquest maps were great. Very open, many areas, and lots of vehicles. BF4 had better weapon range and handling in general.

I really wanted to like Insurgency Sandstorm but I can't stand the gameplay modes. It seems like it wants to be CS, but then tries to force some squad play features. And it is just too limited when it comes to weapon selection / accessories. I may refund it but I am pretty sure I am over the hour count. With WW3 coming I don't think I'd ever touch INS again. I like Rising Storm 2 Vietnam and wish it was built on a newer engine.

If all goes well, I'll be playing WW3 and RS2 V in the future.

The devs have been really responsive. Gameplay might end up being good. Lots of bugs at launch is a probability. However, they are trying hard and for $28, I might buy just to be suppportive.

That last video looks like COD lack of recoil and feel, everyone is going to run around with a sniper rifle...

I hope the graphics improve....as it kinda seemed a bit dated? or maybe was just the map? still glad to see bf at least gets some competition

That map definitely has a dreary dull color palette compared to others shown in the trailers which makes it look dated.

Any more news on this game? How long till we can spend money an start playing this game? Fuck dice!!!.... i need a modern battlefield fix!:wtf:

fuck it....it will be my FIRST early access purchase and So far i Like what i see.....I hope its more polished than Frontlines™: Fuel of War™ ended up being back in the day

I'm tempted myself. I hope it is polished up a lot though. It doesn't need to be Battlefield good in terms of looks, but Insurgency Sandstorm has great weapon animations and map/prop art. I hope they can at least get to that level.

any idea what game engine this one is using? Or they made their own from scratch? It certainly looks ok from some of the promo videos. IMO when they choose the right art and colors it can still look pretty good.

Unreal Engine.

The more videos I watch the more janky its looks, dunno...

other than the guy using the optical sight like he's playing call of duty laser guns it looks quite good. i also like that it shows exactly where you got hit when you die.

I'm curious how much of your body is exposed while leaning since there doesn't seem to be any penalty to your aim for doing so all the time.

Looks a bit too fast paced. Mainly the sliding. Yeah you can slide in real life but this looks over done and must be awkward in an MP game. Some of those rag dolls looked terrible to. Obviously this will enter early access but how long do they plan on taking until the final release? 4-6 months, 8-12?

they said it'll be a while but i'm fine with that as long as there's a good channel of communication between the players and developers. yeah, some of the rag doll effects are a bit wacked out but that's easy shit to fix. but i'm sure will make for some interesting screenshots/clips when it comes out, lol. i'll be waiting to see if any bodies end up hanging from the ceiling or off the top of buildings.

wonder how many maps there will be thursday and what time it releases since the devs are in Poland.
