A Picture I Took 2018 - 2019

This evening I took out my Canon T2i and a single lens (Canon 40mm f/2.8). I've seen this combo go on eBay for roughly $220 so it doesn't break the bank.

I had sold my T2i to a buddy back in 2011 and recently bought it back (sentimental reasons).

Curious to see how much I've grown in photography and what I could do with an older camera...I was pleasantly surprised how well the camera performed.

Dunno what you're complaining about, the shots are great!

But since you mentioned it.. what are you thinking of getting? :sneaky:

These few turned out "ok" but were wide open at too high an iso. Look great on the web, but meh... not nearly as clean/sharp as they could/should be. Soooo many with way too short DOF and grain when they didn't need it. Just got lazy. Hell, I even left the card out of the camera, initially....

Just one bump up to 80D. Keep looking at 5DMkIV, but can't justify the cost for a hobby. And also thinking that 80D replacement is soon, so maybe wait for that, too.

Here's a couple of pics I took in Australia with my Note 8. I really don't have much of a clue about photography, but I kinda like these.

El-Alamein Memorial Fountain in Kings Cross, Potts Point Sydney

Sydney Opera House on a nice rainy and windy AF day (all of the trash cans there were full of destroyed umbrellas)

Sydney harbour bridge on the way to the opera house (you can take a guided walking tour on that (the upper arches)... not my thing so I didn't do it, especially in that weather)

Shot of Luna Park (amusement park) taken on the ferry to Taronga Zoo

Interesting store name on the way to the Sydney Opera House from Circular Quay (pronounced 'Key') train station

Shot of The Nobbies off Phillips Island (outside of Melbourne). Makes me wish I had a decent telephoto lens/camera, as the island out there MAY have fur seals on it at the time.

And finally a shot up the coast of Phillips Island

I bought a Sony CyberShot DSC-H300 for this trip, but I didn't bring it because of space/weight restrictions. I'm MOSTLY glad I did, since having a raincoat and something sorta warm was a BIG help, but there were a few times it would have made a difference (as long as *I* didn't mess it up that is).

Eh, I'd doubt that an 80D replacement is soon. Canon hasn't introduced an updated sensor technology or updated DSLR PDAF, and the 7D II is even older than the 70D... and they're on their mirrorless kick right now.

I think we've all been there, no reason to be upset (y) Last weekend during the photoshoot I dialed up from f4.5 to f2.8 on accident in the middle of the shoot... SMH. My highlights are just white blobs now. I was able to recover in post for the most part, and the shots don't look half bad, but... :banghead:

I've got a big shopping list for next year myself. After shooting with a single strobe for so long, I think I'm going to take the plunge and get myself the Godox/Flashpoint monolight.... maybe.

My wife's due date is approaching very very soon (could be any day now, really) so my photography focus is going to take a pretty big turn here for a while. I will try to get out to do some winter landscapes here but it'll probably be a lot of newborn/family portraits for a bit. Last weekend, we returned to Sylvan Lake - where I proposed to her a year and a half ago - and did a maternity shoot. More to come!

Congrats on the new baby :)

I loosely plan when I set out to do landscape photography due to the fact that you never really know what to expect. The weather, plans, or scene can change so quickly and all you can do is improvise and see if something catches your eye. Yesterday was one of those days.

The idea was to head out to Sedona and capture some fall color. My gf Tracy and I got a late start and I knew she wanted to see a a specific art gallery and catch Darius Lux's musical performance at a brewery. So by the time we got into town I had already put my plans for photo's on the back burner (happily since I enjoy Tracy).

Sunset wasn't far off by the time we were done and neither of us wanted to get home late. So off we went. But I took some random roads while taking in the scenery with the windows down.

off in the distance was a bridge I had never seen before which led to a high end gated community. We parked on the side of the road and walked over and onto the bridge which crossed Oak Creek. This view was gorgeous and I snapped several images. But as the sun was falling below the horizon, my eye saw something I knew I wanted to take home with me. A black and white abstract shot of the creek as it trailed off into the distance.

It's a simple shot that encompasses the "Spirit of oak Creek"...and thus the image is named.

**Also included the image of my camera snapping this shot

And this was the one I was REALLY pissed about when I thought I lost it. So glad I was able to get it back through the camera.

Just discovered the dehaze slider in Lightroom, no idea how I’ve overlooked it this long...

Try the dehaze slider in the adjustment brushes, if you haven't already! You should be able to tone down the haze on the distant mountains a bit if you find it too distracting for your composition.

Thanks, I need to look at that, was just playing around with Lightroom CC on my phone reviewing a bunch of images I had imported the other day a played with the one above a bit, when I can get to my desktop I’ll try it.

I’ve been using the standalone Lightroom since Beta, and just now moved to CC, having to relearn my workflow a bit.

I started going the other way around and have been using LR less and less for my editing in favor of PS. I still import to LR first, do a quick white balance, exposure, lens profile fix and then export TIFF's to PS and do everything there. I do need to get myself a new Wacom tablet, though. My old one doesn't play nice with Win10, which means none of the buttons nor the pressure points actually work, which is a little annoying.

Picked up a nice used Sony Alpha 6000 last week, and ordered a Pentax K mount to NEX adapter, I have a bucket of great old Pentax manual focus lenses, image was taken with an SMC-A 135 F3.5 prime I've had for many years, heavily cropped at F8 1/125 and 200 ISO. Love this little camera for bringing my old lenses back to life, can't wait to do some low light work with my 50mm F1.4!

Agreed... I could see this on a road atlas or something. A little too much haze for my taste, but a great shot nonetheless. Do you use any filters for you landscape work, JStamsek?

Sometimes I do. Often a CPL.

I added a little too much haze on that so I will likely revisit it. Trying out a new editing technique. Used it on the below image also...but not as much as haze at all. Image taken at the same spot on the same day. You can see the road in the background.
