Intel's 9th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (Refresh)

Interesting that they seem to be moving away from hyper threading. From what I can tell only the I-9 has it.

I'm all for real cores but no 4 or 6 with HT is odd.

Imagine if good mitigations for SMT side channel attacks required a sizeable chunk of silicon...

;)

waiting for this CPU as well, have a Titan XP build on hold for this!

mmm I was about to decide for a 2700x but the 9900k really got my attention. Hope to get more info soon.

prob be completely backordered in seconds, then have to wait 4 months for stock again like the 8800k... FML

Intel Core i9-9900K was spotted on Amazon today for pre-orders for a price of $582!!! ($100 more then what everyone organically expected it to be $470).

Amazon took the page down, and no official word yet from Intel as off October 1st regarding the release day. But everything points to the October announcement/release day.

I was not expecting to pay that much :((( Hope the performance increase and overclocking ability will be worth it.

*Update

"Intel would release the Z390 chipset on October 8th & 8-core CPUs two weeks later" - Guru3d.com
This news is not official and has not been confirmed.

so another 3 week wait...oh well...it'll give memory prices a chance to go down

this wait feels like torture
Yeah, you can't get it until the 18th. I noticed on a Canadian vendor page about 'release' being the 18th - for actually ordering (not pre-order - meaning in stock to order.

Oh yeah, $600 in Canada - minimum? Anyone know for sure?

Go with a used i7-8700K for almost half that or go with the 2700X to save $200/$250?

those prices are insane in canada and im from canada so it'll hurt more when i buy from SL

Did do the pre-order in my case. If it stays at this price, i'll be fine. If it goes down some, so much the better. (Was expecting to pay around $600 or so so i'm okay with it)

I did the preorder bc I will be tied up today during the presentation. Bu I’ve been down the bhphoto preorder path before.

9900K was listed for $500 on amazon earlier today, price seems withdrawn for now. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005404P9I/

So 500~$530 or thereabouts starts looking highly plausible at this point. Was hoping for ~$470'ish but the 8th Generation have had a slight price hike the last few days so in that sense this pricing is expected, at least in europe the 8700K suddenly jumped up in price by 40~50€ which I suppose is due the mentioned Intel shipping shortages.

I think AMD starts looking more and more compelling at least in regards to pricing.

24 lanes for the chipset, is this 24 lanes from the chipset or is this a new interconnect?

If (not optimistic) that's 24 lanes to the chipset, that'd be awesome.

$670 at ME! Yup...

Jeezus, yeah id be going for the 2700X and using that extra money for a upgraded GPU, for $200-250 more in the budget for a GPU, which one do you think games better? I know where id place my bets...

If you were to go with a 2700 instead, its a full $300 price difference lol. Huge jump in GPU performance at that level of pricing disparity, allowing you to go from a 580 to Vega 64 or 1080 to 1080ti

If pricing were closer I can see the CPU performance uplift might make sense, but from what it looks like currently, the 9900k is a definite pass.

$529.99 pre order already available.... I am so confused. 2700x was in my sight and its cheaper BUT then I will want to get the pricier RAM in order to get the best of it, while it seems with Intel, it performs great with any RAM pretty much so it seems to even out prices more.
Decisions decisions.

where are you guys seeing these pre orders at? I need to get in on it

So $500 for the 9900k and at least $200 for a z-390 motherboard that can get the most of it? This is a big step up from a $350(?) 8700k and a $150 z-370, not to mention $300 2700 and $100 B-350 combos.

Well I could argue that you need more specific, pricier RAM for the 2700x to make the most of it which is why I am still debating which way to go. I dont mind spending a bit more now for a system that will last me longer if I can get it to do say 5Ghz all 8 cores.

True, but this is often way overstated. You can get 3200 cast 14 with E-die with only a small voltage increase. This basically maxes out Ryzen performance. Also, let's not pretend that many 9900k buyers are getting anything other than B-die anyhow.

The prices for the i9-9900K make me cry a little inside. :) Have any Canadians looked at those prices? Practically over $700 if you factor in taxes! No thanks. Back to the drawing board comparing/contemplating between i7-8700K or 2700X ('used' / Classifieds - the intel parts I found were literally not even used whereas the 2700X was in a system but not OC'ed). I would rather go with one of these and then have a decent system for a few years - if I need a more powerful cpu - I can upgrade later - each has an option. I just think a $700 cpu is unattainable for me and is overpriced in general. Just my opinion, though.

Memory Express? Check PC Canada....out of stock/backorder, though.....(big surprise?!?) ...at $660 PLUS TAXES. I don't see anyone factoring in taxes on these prices. Total price, folks?!?

was hoping to see more L3 cache or possibly 128MB L4 cache but i guess thats just not possible knowing intel.

RCP on the i7-8700K was $359-370. Its successor is technically the i7-9700K, whose RCP is $378. So an $8 increase for 2 more cores.

Looks like plenty of z390 motherboards in the $150 or even lower price point.

$150 for 2 more cores; $8 for 2 more cores and 4 less threads... a year later.

Compare this to the performance imcrease and price drop of the 1700x to 2700x at launch.

Z-390 just ensures out of the box compatibility with the 8-core parts. For the most part, z-390 boards will be better than z-370, but I am sure you will find z-390 boards that are cheaper with lower quality vrms then the better z-370s.

Much the same for some quality b-450/b-350 in comparison to crappy x-470 boards.
