In 2003, an era before YouTube and streaming, a Matrix fan film aptly dubbed “The Fanimatrix” could only affordably be distributed via a then-novel technology, BitTorrent. Incredibly, the torrent created on September 28, 2003 is still going strong 15 years later, and according to TorrentFreak, it’s the oldest active torrent on the internet.

With no budget left they had to find something cheap, or free. Frost, who was working as a network administrator at the time, went looking for a solution and stumbled upon a new technology that could help. Something called “BitTorrent.” “It looked promising because it scaled such that the more popular the file became, the more the bandwidth load was shared. It seemed like the perfect solution,” Frost says, looking back.

Kudos to them for using Torrent to distribute user-made content. Too often file sharing involves pirated content.

As far as the film goes, not a bad effort considering the budget. If it was a t.v. show, I was 10 years old, and it was 1985, I'd watch it.

There's an almost 15 year old torrent of The Last Jedi? Who's time machine made that happen?
I think he may have been cheeky and trying to call The Last Jedi also a 'fan fic" set in the SW universe the way this is a fan fic set in the Matrix universe. And/or that the production quality of this fan film from 15 years ago is about as good as The Last Jedi even though TLJ had a budget of a hundred million dollars. Ie TLJ sucks for the money they spent if a 0 dollar fan fiction is comparable.

I flipped through that vid, never heard of it. Yeah, it looks like Matrix fan film shot on an old camcorder. Which for 2003 would be about right.
