Going from a 1080 Ti to a regular RTX 2080 is pointless in my opinion.
At this point in time that is probably true. Once DLSS and DXR are in games then this might change the landscape.

Where are the RTX ON Benchmarks?
Turn your head around and look away from your computer display or mobile device into the real-world.... there's your Ray Tracing ON

So basically the RTX series is nVidia's Vega, if 7nm is right around the corner they might want to cut prices unless they want to add to their 1000 series pile up lol...
Considering that the cards are being tested on early drivers, they are indeed quite fast. Especially considering that the GPU that it is being compared to the most, the 1080ti, is sitting on two years of driver optimizations. The performance is only going to improve as the drivers mature.
This is the best review I've seen so far because it doesn't nerf the 1080 TI by limiting it to the terrible clocks of the 1080 TI FE:

I'm sure they'll get their hands slapped for not following alleged protocol.
The more I think about this the smarter I believe NV is. Sell a limited run of 12nm cards to get some more profit out of your custom node, price them high so your EOL cards sell off. Release 7nm cards for next holiday season.
Looking at it from a 980ti standpoint: goddamn that's a lot of horsepower.
Still looking at it from a 980ti standpoint: I can't sell a kindey right now.
Don't part with your hard earned money until trusted third party retail samples are reviewed.
I was ready to give up a kidney, but decided to cancel my 2080ti pre-order. I'm planning to do a complete rebuild when the new Intel i9's come out. Planning to reevaluate the GPU scene at that time. For now, it's an unfortunate pass.
Three times I went all in and bought two of the flag ship cards - GTX 480, GTX 680 and GTX 780
The last two times I spent about $1400 and was pretty happy with the performance (especially running 1080P surround)
If the 2080Ti was $799 or maybe $899 I'd buy it no question and depending on scaling, I'd think about buying two.
However, it's going to be very easy to ride my 1080Ti for another year or so.
Nvidia needs to offer a better deal.
Why are we doing this? Because we ARE PC MASTER RACE, that's how we roll! (like dummies with excessive amounts of money for this hobby)
Spoiler alert. Damn they are fast. Whether they are worth the price is another issue, bud damn fast.

Why even bother with the Nvidia pre orders at this point? If we have to wait until October or November for games to even have RT enabled then we may as well wait for EVGA custom boards to come out. Why have the reference cards when it doesn't get you anywhere?
Well, I just canceled my 2080 pre-order and bought a used 1080Ti. Seems like the prudent thing to do at this point. I'll revist the 2080 series again when the prices are reasonable for the performance offered.
hahaha
I can' believe anyone is surprised or disappointed. The fucking tight lipped bullshit, NDAs, and reviewer bullying gave it all away instantly. If these cards had had good performance, they would have been bragging about it from every corner of the world as early as possible to hype it up like they did for every other good card in the past.
Don't be fooled by these shitty companies.
You guys are delusional. The performance blows. Please point me to another time in nvidia history where the price went up by 70% while performance increased by 20. Early drivers or otherwise. Heck point me to a time when performance went up 20% and the price stayed the same, early or otherwise.
