Ray Tracing Allegedly Won't Launch With RTX Graphics Cards

They're releasing a faster card, their customers are buying a faster card.

You really think that people are expecting day 1 ray tracing support? For games that aren't released yet?

Well look, all the marketing so far has been mainly about ray tracing. So they're banging that drum pretty hard, banging the drum about the games that will support it, so yes you'd have to say quite reasonably people are expecting to play ray tracing games on their shiney new pre ordered card.

Sure!

But they're not marketing it based on their own demos, they're marketing it on how developers have implemented it in games that are still under development.

It never seemed reasonable to me that someone should expect 'day one' ray tracing when the games being shown with the feature haven't been released yet themselves.

Not surprising. Eidos said from the get go that ray tracing wouldn't be available at launch in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. And if you have been paying attention you'd know the 1809 update for W10 is needed, first. This was all said weeks ago, but do please continue farming internet rage.

That whole Nvidia presentation was a big fat sales pitch.

Obviously.

Like...

No shit.

That's what a product launch is.

Or should a company that makes graphics cards not try to sell graphics cards?

Every time Jensen gets on stage he's selling. What's there to be pissed about? Him doing his fucking job?

Which, in case you haven't figured it out, is to sell graphics cards.

But don't buy anything till it's ready. I don't pre-order games. Why on earth would I pre-order hardware?

Edit - especially with 7nm so close. I think my Pascal can tough it out another year. We'll see.

Dude he should go on stage to sell puppies, GOD DAMN PUPPIES. Why the hell do I want him to go out to talk about video cards, really? fucking VIDEO CARDS? why the hell would I want to listen to a guy on a stage whos the CEO of a company who makes GPU's talking about fucking GPU's, talk about Puppies mother fucker! or get off the stage!

I also don't think Nvidia ever state that RT was going to be playable day 1, they can't control that even if they fed developers every tool they had. But I also wouldn't buy until I had an objective product review first, the sad thing is, we won't have a review that includes RT for these cards at release :(

I don't buy into Jensen's bullshit. Just feel bad for all the gamers misled by the presentation that DO, Being misled into pre-ordering Nv alpha experiment before it's ready and Jensen spouting "It's here, now!" When in actuality it's NOT.

So Jensen lies, and that's his job? NO SHIT.
There are other CEOs that I can trust.

He KNEW the Windows API was not ready, where was that message? I think MOST people came away thinking it WAS ready and preordered day1 to try it out.

Maybe misleading consumers is not the right thing to do. Some people here apparently think it's ok. I don't.

Jensen didn't mislead anyone, if he was misleading then he would of said you could of enabled ray tracing day 1 of the release but he never said that. He only ever mentioned that they had RT dedicated hardware and then demo'd it on games that have fucking release dates lol.

i'm sure all the gamers had their lawyers go through the presentation transcript. As Nv floods the web with RTX "live demos" of existing game titles.

You would have been pissed off watching the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk.

"It's so slow." "It only flew a couple of hundred feet." "There isn't any room for passengers."

New technology takes time. The hardware company is launching their hardware. The software companies are taking their sweet ass time. NONE OF THE GAMES SHOWN ARE SHIPPING, NOR WERE EXPECTED TO SHIP, BEFORE THE GPUS.

We've been here before, we'll be here again. The first cars didn't have steering wheels, the first computers didn't have screens, the first dildos didn't vibrate.

Your right, less than a minute of flight would be kind of disappointing when balloons were aloft for hours.

Call it what it really is - real time ray tracing sampling of a few rays. So stop calling it real time ray tracing when it is just a mere small sampling. The Nv marketing machine is just in super overdrive and you all making it out much more than what it really is.

EDIT: I was creating Ray Traced images in x-windows in '84 so yeah - maybe I set the bar high to be impressed..

Brah. If anyone in this thread is making something more than what is, it's you.

Newer faster GPUs are coming, cool. Newer possibly better looking effects are coming, cool. When it makes sense to buy, buy. If it doesn't, don't.

Done.
