noblechairs Hero Gaming Chair Build & First Impressions

noblechairs delivered us our most liked office chair in the last year of reviewing chairs. It came to us recently with its new Hero series gaming chair and asked if we wanted to review it. We show you the build process and our first thoughts about the Hero. It looks like it is going to pull off the "gaming" look without all the downside.

This chair looks like a winner. The suede side strips are becoming more popular in cars. At my work, the Maxima, the nismo Juke and a few other models use it. Looks nice when new, but doesn't look nice that long. Good thing it's just used for accent/contrast instead of full seating surfaces.
You can't really put a price on a very comfortable chair, but Kyle, would you say there are alternatives at a cheaper price that both are as comfortable, and as durable as these Noble chairs?

Might very well be alcantara, but it did not feel like it to the touch. It is not in a wear area, so it should not be an issue, but we will see how it wears in the next month or so.

The Icon and the Hero are firm. The Hero feels more firm than the Icon, but it is breaking in some after a week and getting more comfortable. I like a FIRM chair and these fit the bill. The lumbar support on the Hero is excellent. Still at this price I would have loved to have seen an inclusion of the rollerblade wheels.

Excuse me for not having read any of the gaming chair reviews, but they generally all seem to use the exact same design with maybe some different material/colors. What really differentiates one of these chairs from another? It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there was a single manufacturer of these gaming chairs that simply resell to the different recognizable consumer brands.

Kyle, on the back of the chair by your back there looks to be a metal logo in the middle, do you feel that when you lean back? I was reading a review on a chair (I think it was the Nobel Epic) that it was digging into the back so they had to remove it with pliers because it was uncomfortable with it there.

I still don't see the need for aggressive side bolsters in an office chair.

I usually don't take the corners too fast when I drive my desk.

i don't like the super aggressive bolsters like the corsair gaming chairs but i do like having the more subtle ones (the hero ones don't seem to be that bad).. i have a tendency to always lean to one side or the other in my chair so having the bolsters forces me to sit properly.

for the most part they're all pretty much the same, it mostly comes down to material, build quality and slight differences in the features/configurations..

I'm not opposed to bolsters if they serve a functional purpose.

I just get annoyed by racing stripes and every chair needing to look like a bucket seat from a race car.

I would never buy a "gaming" chair. I don't want anything that stands out. I want it to be comfortable, ergonomic, etc. etc. but I don't believe that there is anything about gaming that necessitates a chair being any different than an office chair for working at a desk.

I am sure it can seem that way, but what is comes down to really is how the padding is laid on the frame, the shape of that padding, the density of that padding, and the type of material that is used to cover it. As for the frames themselves, these can vary greatly as well. It is easy to say these are all the same....till you sit in those for a few hours.

I have never felt that logo tag. Even trying to grind it into my back, I cannot feel it. I cannot even identify that it is there by feel. I guess if you spine stuck out prominently between you shoulder blades this could be an issue.

You should get a Herman Miller chair to review (as long as it's free, after those Nvidia GPU's, $1,000 for a chair might be out of the budget) and use it as a base line since it's basically the gold standard of office chairs.

I always wanted to know how these gaming chairs stack up against a decent office chair

Figured I would chime in as I got the Icon (Fake Leather not real Leather) a few months back. I'm 6'1 185ish and love the chair. 1 thing i'd like to point out is i'm not into the whole gaming chair craze, my office at home is really low key, blacks and whites and professional. However I wanted a chair with a really high back as i have some neck problems and the high backs tend to help. The padding seemed a bit stiff at first and is still a tiny bit stiffer than most office chairs...yet its pretty darn comfortable. As Kyle noted the bolsters are really more aesthetic and not really functional as i sometimes sit with my legs crossed when playing a game that uses a controller.

1 thing i was concerned with was the arms. But i was pleasantly surprised that those arms will hold my weight if i push down on them to adjust myself in the chair. I should also note the wheels were solid but the plastic was a bit hard and I was afraid it might scratch my wood flooring so I got a set of caster rubber wheels off amazon.

I have owned one for 20 years. I don't like the lacking lumbar support in those.

With the Aeron, if you don't get the optional lumbar support, it does suck. I never had that issue with the Leap. A few years back I took all my employees down to a office warehouse and let them pick whatever they wanted. Most got the Leap, a couple got the Aeron and I stupidly picked up a Humanscale Freedom. I've ended up replacing mine with the Steelcase Gesture with headrest (because I sometimes lean back and fall asleep at work). The arms on the Gesture are kickass and well worth the price. No one on my team liked the Embody, which seems a popular choice.

Just picked up a "racing" chair myself from Massdrop. They have quite a few available for a "drop" there. I went with the RapidX Carbon for $199 (I got the charcoal/gray, which I don't find "flashy" at all). So far, really happy with it. I honestly don't know much about gaming chairs besides the fact they're all the rage...and that there are a lot of cheap knock-offs floating around. I think snowysnowcones isn't too far off the mark with regards to a great number of gaming chairs out there (that they are essentially fungible and contract-made) which makes it all the more important to hone in on the exceptions.

The crappy thing about chairs is they are so subjective on what people perceive as comfortable. I guess reviews on build/material quality, support, etc is about the best you can hope for.

I ended up getting a secretlabs titan a few months ago and it's been nice

This chair has the same weakpoint as the one I'm sitting in with only 1 arm atm. If you look at around 2:45 in the video you see to bolts under the arm directly in black. They are screwed into a plate that is only soldered to the main arm under that black plastic cap. That solder breaks and then the entire arms bends out of place. Just a warning that you will have to take it to a mechanic or shop to have it arc welded properly.
Fun times.

I really wish these companies offered a better return policy. You can't expect people to lose so much money on a chair they never got a chance to sit in first. I've narrowed it down to the Noblechairs Icon, Hero or Secretlabs Titan. I'm 5'10 220lbs. All input is welcome. Thanks!

I just had about 15 computer geeks over at my house filming a video. Pretty much all of them sat in the Hero, I would say 85% of them were liking a short sitting. A couple of them that do not sit upright liked the Corsair T2, because it caters to more of a leaned back position. Most preferred the Hero over the Icon.

What were their heights? What reason did they give for liking the Hero over the icon?
Wider across the back, but mostly mentioned was the lumbar support. The lumbar support on this chair is the real deal. Even my 16 year old daughter, who loves her Corsair T1, said she loved the Hero lumbar support. However, the Hero is not near as "cushy" as the T1. And it is not, the Hero very supportive. It is not a "Lazy Boy" in any way. You can take naps in the T1, I do not see that being the case with the Hero.

Yeah, but don't they make you pay for return shipping and a restocking fee? That can be pretty hefty on a heavy package.

Well, then you had better go somewhere you can buy one that you can sit in it first.

I tried this chair out as well. I didn't sit in it for too long but it was quite comfortable. It's got good range of adjustments and the build quality seems high.

A long time ago, I found 3 expensive chairs with all of the adjustments and black steel legs in a Dumpster as Asshats in a corporation wanted to "change the look" of their office. I was going to invest some money into said company... needless I did not... considering that the current look of the said office space in the entire building was very, very modern and a very nice work environment. So they spent 6.5 million (in 2000 US dollars) for the office change... they of course went out of business in early 2002... Anyhow I found 3 of the same color and tossed them in my HAPPY VAN!!! Skip to 2018 and one of the back rests is finally going to go... well I could fix it or I can go to storage and grab one that have... that looks brand new. I'm not into gaming chairs... I'm into chairs for comfort. Not paying that much money for that.

Moral of the Story.... DUDE!... I may have a net worth of over 7 figures but hell... I'll dumpster dive as fast as salvage scrapper on Meth. If I see something good of value I'll beat him off with an arm rest. Dumpster Diving ho!!!

It's all about the score Dooby... It's all about the score....

Okay flash back to the 60's.... my morphine is kicking in ;)

Yea... old habits do die hard.

Well mine will be here on Monday. Time to replace my free from work old Hon office chair that finally broke (the back plastic snapped) after 18+ years of use.

Wow, 18 years? Lol Your new chair is gonna be amazing. Lol Please share all the details when you get it. Congratulations!

First 15 minute impressions. Slight pleather smell to it. Will probably dissipate in a few days. Must have been very simple to put together. I texted my wife when UPS delivered it, around lunch time and when I came home from work she had it assembled for me. Did not care for the lumbar pillow, love the support and firmness of the chair. I will post more latter.

I am very pleased with the comfort and firmness of the noblechairs Hero Gaming Chair. The lowest setting is higher than the lowest setting of my old chair, which is fine for me with a 30" inseam. I have been using the chair for about 4 hours a night . The pleather smell is gone. My wife is looking forward to the end of the month while I am gone a business trip so she can steal the chair for a week.

Still using mine, really like it. Just realized it has been a month and I already have the next chair here to review. I don't want to review another chair........because I want to keep this one.
