Google has as many answers to this question as there are grains of sand in the known universe. Why this isn't easily accessible is beyond my comprehension.

Any help much appreciated.

You mean going to settings/display is not easily accessible in Mint? If you use closed source Nvidia drivers, change the resolution from the Nvidia control panel.

There is no "settings/Display" that I can find and search returns nothing for either settings and or display and or screen resolution or any combo of these. Quite frustrating.

Thanks

Forgot to add that Mint 19 does indeed have setting/ Display. Could it be that I have a package missing in 18.3 I get a bunch of options to install packages when I do a search on display.

I decided to go ahead and install Mint 19 so I can't get the details right now but from memory it's -

Intel MB
Intel i7 4770
16gb RAM
Nvidia GT 750
Intel SSD

Something so eminently useful should be easy to access.

If you use Nvidia drivers, the resolution options go through the Nvidia control panel, not through display. Make sure the control panel is also installed (along with the drivers) if you cant find a place for resolution. Nvidias open source drivers suck because they don't release the source code like AMD.

Thanks B00nie. Nvidia control panel wasn't installed in 18.3 but it is in 19. There is also a display applet to change resolution. All in all 19 is a more refined release. Now if I can only get Firefox 52 ESR installed and working properly I'll be a happy camper.

I just loaded Mint 18.3 to a virtual machine and it has 'System settings' and 'Display' control from where you change your resolution. Easily found by opening the start menu and searching for 'display'.

Deadjasper, I found this thread on my travels the other day and immediately thought of you. Yes, it's using the same PPA but the name of the actual package is different. Take a look, perhaps it helps?

I've just emerged from Linux. It all started out with 18.3 that for some reason known but to god didn't have a "Display" applet. After searching in vain for a solution I decided to go ahead and upgrade to Mint 19. Then the real fun began. I could not install FF ESR 52. Instead of installing 52w it installed 60. Even tho I followed the instructions to the letter and still no joy after days and days of repeatedly trying. I then asked for help installing it from the download off Mozilla.com. Apparently no one knew because I got no response and Google had nothing usable.

Then today I gave up and nuked 19 and loaded 18.3 again. Lo and behold FF ESR 52 loaded without a hitch and it even worked like it should. In Mint 19 I could not get it to stick as the default browser. Exit FF and go back in and it would say it's not the deflault browser. The result was I couldn't click on an external link, nothing would happen. Now it works as it should and I also have a "Display" applet.

Mint 19 was full of glitches. The above problem is just the main one. There were many other. 18.3 works like it should. I just wish I hadn't wasted so much time on 19.

I still haven't upgraded to 18.04, 16.04's doing just fine - Can't see the point just yet.

Yea, from here on out I won't upgrade unless there's a compelling reason to do so and absolutely not when the upgrade hasn't been out long. Lesson learned.

Same. My Plex server is 16.04. I'm sure I'll upgrade it at some point but right now I'm more than fine just letting it run. Can't be a bad thing to not upgrade until 18.04.02 or later even. let others be the testers. ;)

On my Mint system that uses Cinnamon I just click on the start menu, click on Display and my resolution options are right there.
