Those who want to sample Call of Duty’s take on battle royale should do so now via Battle.net. Activision made the PC open beta for Blackout available yesterday, but unlike the console beta, it will only run for three days instead of four, ending Monday (10:00 AM PT, September 17).

In Blackout, Black Ops comes to life in a massive battle royale experience that features signature Call of Duty combat, land, air and sea vehicles, looting, a wealth of weapons and equipment, and more — all in the largest Call of Duty map in franchise history.

Really been enjoying this.

I actually got to 2nd and 3rd a few times.

What's really weird is it has massive open areas that Battlefield used to have which I love.

I'm not on rails, I'm not forced into close combat until the end. I don't feel crowded like I do in Battlefield.

I was able to use a lot of flanking maneuvers, something that's impossible in Battlefield now.

It's almost as Black Ops 4 has taken all the awesome stuff that Battlefield used to have.

Def going to buy it over Battlefield.

Sounds are on point, animation and game play.

If you're constantly crashing a few mins into a match, try setting your textures to medium. I did that and I've been fine since. Some kind of memory leak issue.

just played a couple of rounds....I despise the battle royale gameplay with what everyone else is doing like PUBG and Fortnite but for some reason this was stupid fun.

Was anyone else disappointed it was Battle Royale only? I guess i missed the first open beta... At least I know how performance will be, which was surprisingly good.

IMO, it will be a hard sell at $60 for BR fans. I think Activision should also release the BR mode as a stand-alone game for $30 or so and they’ll see more sales. I definitely won’t spend $60 to play BR when I already have PUBG and H1Z1 and other options are coming. I would, however, pay $30 for this version.

Curious how PUBG or Fortnite people who played this think it compares?

I only played for a few minutes. I liked it, especially helicopters. I don’t like it enough to pay $60 though and will stick with PUBG for now.

In my opinion it doesn't compare at all.

I can't stand Fortnite. Cartoony, goofy game with building and shit. Not for me.

I like PUBG, but it's broke as fuck. BROKE AS FUCK! There's no game when 80% of it is being lucky to not catch desync. Fix PUBG is a marketing campaign, that's it. They don't know how to fix it, they don't care about fixing it, they only care about money. Which is why the last 2 patches contained nothing more than a couple new in game loot items and TON of BUY IT NOW skins. If you want a PUBG style game that actually works then wait for Ring of Elysium. Tencent knows how to make a game, Blue Bunghole does not.

COD BO4 Blackout simply works. It's smooth, hit reg is on point, weapon balance is near perfect. It's COD but better. With some tweaking it can be as good as a BR can get.

Agree with you about Fortnite - I think it is crap.

PUBG runs extremely well for me as long as I stick to NA servers. I used to play on Asian servers because I figured that most of the Asian cheaters were on the NA servers, but I think I've seen more cheaters on the AS servers than I have on NA.

I'm anxious to see RoE. I think Activision is pricing themselves out of the BR market if they don't unbundle the BR mode and sell it as a separate game.

You'd see how terrible PUBG is if you played the COD Blackout beta. Dude, I'm so tired of being killed by people I didn't see when they saw me, or getting shot after I'm behind cover, unload an entire magazine from a Vector in to someones face and they turn and kill me., while they still have their helmet. I've been killed by players that simply don't even render on my side. Last night I shot a downed player 3 times with a KAR98, not one of those shots hit the player. My friend was speccing me and was like "wtf, why aren't those shots connecting?" Yeah, no shit, I was like 25 meters away with no one shooting at me, so no pressure. Well aimed shots. I ran up to dude and hit him with a pan to kill him. You're fooling yourself if you think it's fine. NA, EU, AS server, doesn't matter. Their desync issue is just poor netcode, plain and simple.

Maybe they'll fix it after they introduce another weapon or two, maybe another vehicle, or some more skins and crate keys for people to buy. Maybe another round of illegitimate bannings are needs. Yeah, that's it, ban some more people. That'll fix PUBG.

The only thing they are after is to fill their pockets as quickly as possible before their ship sinks to better games.

I did play it and enjoyed it, but I didn't $60 enjoy it. I think Activision will see that they'll make more money if they release the BR game as a $30 standalone game as well.

Dude, I'm so tired of being killed by people I didn't see when they saw me,

This happens in all games. I've snuck up on people and killed them too. Sucks, but it happens. I think the last time I won a solo on PUBG, I sniped the last guy from about 130 yards and he had zero clue where I was.

I hear you and I don't disagree and have also had the inexplicable misses as well. In my case, the thing that pisses me off is *hitting* people multiple times (including obvious hits to the head) and they don't knock or die. I played last weekend and was on a hill and saw a guy laying prone. I hit him 4 times (with an SKS IIRC) including in the head. He didn't die. I've seen this scenario repeated far too often - where I shoot at a guy, blood is splashing everywhere, and I can't kill the guy (or even knock him). It does piss me off. And then last night, my brother is driving the truck and we're being followed by two jackasses on a motorcycle about 70 yards behind us. I pop out of the window and take a random pot shot and knock the motorcycle driver immediately. I find it hilarious I can take people out with random shots but so many times, shots where I obviously hit the guy multiple times (complete with copious blood splatters) don't even take them out.

COD is a non-starter for me at $60. My core gaming group is balking at the price and until/unless it goes on sale or Activision releases the BR mode as a standalone game, I don't see us playing it.

Not that they saw me first or snuck up on me, it's they never rendered on my screen. Like we both see each other, take cover, I'll have my sights dead set on his cover, next thing I know I'm headshotted by him without ever seeing him peek. I'll go watch the replay and it shows him peeking for the shot, I go back to OBS and watch what I saw and never see him peek.

As for the price, I suppose if BR is all you are interested in then it doesn't make sense. I plan on playing all 3 modes. Zombies, Blackout and multiplayer. All AAA titles are going to be $60. It is what it is.

Amazing game. Lot of fun. Def ... most def going to purchase this.

Huge maps. Tons of way to use stealth, tactics and the like to kill your opponents. Something they removed from the Battlefield series.
