Getting the best bang for buck 1080ti

I'm building a new pc, and am strongly considering going with the 1080ti. I missed out on the duke deal for $599 I posted a couple days ago and have decided i'll pick one up at BH photo/video since no taxes. I have a mid tower case and will get an 8700k. My plan is to go 2k for a couple years until really good 4k monitors come down in price then i'll pickup another 1080ti for SLI. I'm not big into overclocking so that's not as much a concern, but obviously having the potential is nice. Which of these cards do you think I should get?

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Mini Graphics Card $629

From what I understand this card still overclocks well and runs better than a FE card at only half the size. It's also significantly cheaper than all the other cards. I really don't need the card for the space, I have a midtower case, but maybe the size will help a bit with the airflow.

I heard these cards were kinda iffy with noise and overlock, which makes me think for the price the mini is the way to go.

I've heard if you remove the fans and add a watercooler it's a great overclocker but other then that it's meh.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING Graphics Card $689.99

From what i've read this is the best overall card within this price range and the only one that's really making me consider spending the extra $60 from the mini, but it's backordered. I'm not too familiar with BH to know how long backordered means to know if it's worth buying now.

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti DUKE 11G OC Graphics Card $679 with MIR

This was the card I almost go for $599 plus tax. It won't bother me any to spend $40 more now I just don't know if it's worth the extra $40 from the mini.

Every other card I've seen is within the $700-900 price range.

Can you guys who've had a few of these cards offer your incite? I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

So I ended up pulling the trigger on EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Black Edition GAMING, 11G-P4-6391-KR for $669

This seemed to be the best rated card at that price point, no taxes and it qualifies for the step up program... which could come in handy for BF/CM.

Not to be an ass,I would cancel your order and buy a second hand card in the for sale thread.Most all GTX 1080Ti cards will have warranties and some manufactures go by manufacture date.

What these guys' said. Buy from the sale/trade forum, or get one on ebay. I got one there myself just last week for $500, shipped. At $670, you could just throw another $100 at it and get a RTX 2080, which rumors to perform slightly better. There's a good amount you could save though, if you value your money and would be satisfied with a 1080Ti, which would be my vote if it mattered.
 
I was looking on ebay and saw some cards for around $450+. But I don't upgrade my rig often. I'm currently on a 920 i7 (which i got used from here) with two 460's in it. You can't tell what 1080ti's haven't had the piss beaten out of them oc'ing & mining when you buy used. Also I would imagine not all warranties are transferable. I'm not opposed to buying used parts but that certainly comes with some high risks. I think the EVGA deal is quite good because I can always upgrade the card to a 2080 later for a lot less and risk the used route for a 1080 or 2080 for SLI down the road.
 
Most warranties for videocards are on the card itself. The risk, esp with eVGA, is low.
 
Doesn't matter which card you got, short of noise output, the gaming experience will be the same across the board, enjoy!
 
Your choice of EVGA was probably the best card you could do. The blacks turn off the fan when not in use and since the fan is really the only reason a GPU would fail before it’s completely outdated — you achieve a lot longer expected life span. The EVGAs are also the best built 1080ti I’ve had my hands on in my mining operations. They have the best customer support, warranty, and the best packaging. If you are okay with the price (which is arguably too much). Then you’ll be very happy with the card for a lot of years to come.
 
Ended up getting the same EVGA black for $670 with 10% eBay bucks. If I do step up the $67 of eBay bucks will cover the shipping and then some. After factoring in 2% cash back on credit card its $590 so I think its worth it for the warranty (Citi gives 2 years extra so 5 years total) and step up possibility.

Still available on ebay BTW.

1080TI SC Black, awesome card! Probably best GPU I’ve ever bought. Also mine mined 24/7 when not gaming for 8 months. They run like day one but yes you do not know when used. Unless really cheap, I would go with new.
 
I got my Black Edition off of Newegg at the end of August for $649. Going to watch prices over the next couple of months and pick up a second for SLI.

yup i agree with you. its kind of just a personal policy. you can buy new, use it for a year or two, and sell it for 400$. i mean you could buy used at 450$ use it for 2 years and do the same thing. but again, you don't know how hardcore its been mined. since im building an expensive rig, i dont want to take the chance either on it. if mining wasn't a thing id do it, cuz itd probably just be gamed on, but with mining in the picture, it could have been run 24 hours a day for the past 2 years heheheh.

Almost every single person I know that owned/owns a 1080ti for gaming (dozens), let it mine when they weren't gaming in the last year during the rush, so yeah, buyer beware on ANY 1080ti used longevity.

Get a used 1080ti from Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. Don’t matter if it’s been mined or not.

Depends how long you plan to keep the card. If they were mining 24x7x365 the number of hours logged on the card is significantly greater than a gamer who plays 4-6 hours a day, 3-4 days a week.

Highly doubt the silicone degraded. Sure it’s been used but nvidia doesnt let us adjust vcore. Now if he’s keeping the card for more than 5 years... that’s another story.

Yep. Albeit, if you plan to keep the GPU for four years, and the GPU was mined on for one year and six months, and it's an eVGA card, you may lose out yet if the fans crap out early because 24x365x1.5 = 13,140 usage hours. Your warranty would cover you for one and a half years of the planned four total years you plan to keep the card. Normalizing a regular gamers use case of 3x365x1.5, you'd be seeing 1,642.5 usage hours if purchased from a gamer [an 8x reduction].
 
I pick up a used MSI Gaming X 1080ti off ebay a few weeks ago for $550 including shipping. This card rocks. Runs cool and quiet.
