I just put together a new AMD Ryzen 2600X build and everything has been working great so far. I just have a few questions about the temp and clock speeds to make sure everything is normal.

Specs;

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Processor
MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon
G.SKILL Flare X Series 16GB
Video card: Sapphire Radeon NITRO+ RX 580 8GB
CORSAIR HYDRO SERIES H100i v2 AIO Liquid CPU Cooler
OS drive: Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2
Storage Drives: Same SSD/HDD from current system
NZXT S340 Mid Tower Computer Case, Matte Black/Red
Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition Single Fan (TOP)
Corsair Air Series AF120 Quiet Edition Single Fan (Rear)
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2, 80+ GOLD 750W

The CPU has been idling at 36-42C and in games it has been like 45-60C. Are those good temps?

For some reason the CPU is always idling at 4.1-4.2 GHZ. Is that normal? I thought those are the XFR/PBO speeds that you should see in games and other programs but not when it is idle or just doing basic stuff on your desktop?

So it turns out that I had everything default. I did some research and turned on Cool and Quiet in the BIOS and it seems to fixed it.

This is what Idle looks like now. Only strange thing is that it no longer boosts to 4.1-4.2 like before, it only boosts to about ~4050 or so.

Yeah your temps are fine. I habve a 2600x also.

Keep in mind if Cool n Quiet is enabled, then switching to WIndows High Power profile will give the chip max power when needed. installing the Ryzen balanced profile should idle the chip when loads are not present.

Don't use the Ryzen plan with Zen+. It interferes with the chips boost. Use the balanced windows plan and make sure the minimum is set to 5%.

I did NOT know this. Thanks.

Yeah when I got a 2700X I learned it too, the chip was stuck at 2 boost bins below the max (~4050mhz) all the time because Windows 10 automatically picked that plan. Changed it to balanced (5%/100%) after looking up the information and it then would idle at its low speed setting and boost to 4.3ghz like it was supposed to under load.

good tip. thats where I was going with the power plan q, in his other thread...

Thanks for the info. I am running Cool and Quiet with the Windows Blanced plan and it seems to be working great. I am doing 2200MHZ when doing stuff on my desktop and boosting to ~4200-4250 in games and other intensive tasks.

Not everyone here has access to GenMay and not everyone in GenMay reads this forum. The thread in GenMay was really about my new build.

Are there any good guides on what Ryzen temps should be to play it safe?

It boosts in accordance with the power envelope and temperature so the lower the better. That said, my Noctua 120mm cooler was more than enough for my old 2700X and my current 2600X. Works great, temps under load are low 60C range.
