Is ESO worth investing time in still?

I played ESO on the PS4 for less than a year, never able to immerse myself into it like other MMOs. A while back I decided to pick up the PC version since I was sure I would like it better, but something still seemed off about it. I didn't even bother doing any of the content in the Morrowind expansion before quitting. Now that Summerset is out, I'm again wondering if it's worth the time that MMOs require.

So I ask any current and former players, have there been any game-changing updates in the past year, aside from expansions? Have any of the combat or crafting systems been overhauled yet?

If you were not able to get into it before then I think you still wouldn't be able to now. Nothing about the gameplay loop has changed since Morrowind came out.

Patheon rise of the fallen is going to be great it suppose to be released this year. Basically the only MMO I have any hope for since the big SOE canceled Everquest Next. Ashes of Creation is also a game to look out for.

I am so ready for any other MMO. FFXIV, stale and simple though it may be, is still the only one that comes close to my nebulous requirements.

Of course, the fact that FFXIV isn't F2P has everything to do with that. I don't care how good an MMO looks - if it doesn't have a subscription cost I'm not touching it. That lesson has been learned many times.

I picked it up like 2 weeks ago for $10.

I started a toon in Morrowind and have basically treated it as a SP experience. (aka Morrowind sequel)

The voice acting is EVERYWHERE and overall the game feels like your standard Bethesda RPG with MMO trimmings....

If that sounds appealing to you, PLAY IT!

I have yet to dive into the real mmo aspect of this game. I've explored some public dungeons with randoms (not the harder ones you actually queue up for) and I've quested a bit with the wife. So far it has been pretty fun. I'm hoping to dive into the more mmo side of this game soon.

It's been a pretty good single player experience so far, which has been the biggest draw for me. I don't have a lot of time to game these days, especially not uninterruptible free time. it's hard to queue for a 30 - 60 minute dungeon when my kids are still up (and i'm usually too tired by the time they're in bed lol). Questing by myself gives me a lot of freedom to play at my own pace. And this game doesn't force you into group content like other MMOs but it's there for when i finally have time to play it.

I will say this though, anyone who is looking to play this as a purely solo experience would probably enjoy Skyrim better. This game is still fun solo, but i'd consider it more of a Skyrim lite.

Question to OP: What exactly are you looking for in a MMO? I do think you're right about FFXIV. It's one of the better ones out there. I'd probably still be playing it if I had the time.

I wonder if you can solo in this game as well?

I solo it and its not hard. The public dungeons can be a little challenging if you dont group up (by group up...I walk into them and hope people are around). Its not a bad game by any means IMO...just don't expect Skyrim quality.

Yeah it's not graphically impressive but the best. They need some Ambient music in the background plus the spells might just be underwhelming. They could just be minimal to avoid clutter in the game.

nope. cookie cutter MMO. dont even bother unless thats what you want.

Completely inaccurate. It actually is very far from a typical quest hub grind. The Pvp in cyrodiil is unique, and the pve on vet modes in newer dungeons and the trials is structured differently by far from most MMO's. Please have some idea of what you're talking about when slapping down a great game without evidence.

plenty of hours in the game, bland graphics, feels very cookie cutter. my opinion. /shrug.

There's a ton of customization for your character. And there has been a lot of quality of life improvement. I heard late game is more Diablo-style where you farm Paragon points to improve your character. I'm only lvl 37 atm though.
I still don't understand the reason why they insist on trading guilds instead of a centralized auction house, but there's a trading website that can search all traders in the world.
But as said before, if you couldn't get into it before, you probably won't be able to get in now. The game hasn't changed that much, but there are a lot of small improvements and there's so much customization IF you have the money, I love that part. People are not gonna love me for this comment, but for $20, I bought 1.000.000g and was able to buy a ton of customization options from the traders.
I think the graphics are not bad for a MMO. More appealing than WoW to me.

I've been playing a lot of ESO, and its been some great fun. Recently got the Summerset DLC and love it. Another DLC are is coming in Dec. also.

ESO population keeps growing too, I see a ton of people on there.

It supposedly has more active players now than WOW ever did at its peak.

I stopped playing PvE and PvP a long time ago. All I do now is roleplay as a Khajiit merchant and spend all day on guild stores buying selling and trading. I actually enjoy playing the market and watching my gold stack go up.
