My desktop doesn't have wifi, so I use this thing to let it talk to my comcast router downstairs:

My TV has a Roku device, but I want to stream MKVs and AVIs from my hard drive to my TV. What's the cheapest way I can get this done? I have Kodi installed, and I have a green button remote and USB IR receiver that I used with my previous setup before I moved, so I can always run my HDMI cable from the PC to the TV but a wireless setup would be more elegant solution...if it's not too spendy.

Setup plex and stream them through the network to the roku plex app? I have a buddy who bought a wireless hdmi kit and it seemed to work pretty good. But it wasn't that cheap.

I think I understand what you're looking for. Hopefully plex will work for you.

Plex was fairly easy to set up, and it streams to every TV in the house. But now I'm thinking about uninstalling it because it just randomly started adding images from folders I didn't add to my library. Last thing I need is for my pr0n to start streaming to my sister's kids' TVs.

Plex adds cover art. It shouldn't add anything that isn't in your library. It's not always 100% accurate. But I haven't had anything inappropriate showing up. Sorry it's not working out for you.

**Edit**

Unless you mean its looking in a folder of pictures or something? I drop all my mp4s into a single folder and that's all it browser. Then it will auto add cover art and movie details.

Why not Serviio media server?
I tried Plex before and it seemed to me bloated, heavy and awkward to use.
Serviio is easier to use and somewhat I feel it better.
