This is 100% not newsworthy, but it did give us a chuckle. This is what "Captain Kirk" had to say about a recent VR experience of his.

“It’s so real: it’s the stuff of nightmares … We’ve got to be really careful because you could put somebody into a psychosis.”

That said, we have run through some of the horror VR titles, and it can be quite a bit to handle. What is even scarier is that Shatner is having a 3D animated image of himself produced, by Ziva Dynamics, so that he can live forever.

Shatner, 87, is about to publish a memoir. In one passage, he writes of having his body reproduced in VR – “everything necessary to enable technicians to make my image move and speak realistically.”

Even the folks down at the Captain's senior center are getting in on the action.

He's spot on -- this could be the stuff of nightmares, imagine old Jim Kirk showing up in a pron video.

I'm not sure if I'm outraged or intrigued by the seniors doing such things!

There is nothing intense about VR, this is just an 87 year old man who would probably in the same breath say "I had to walk to the bathroom today down 5 steps, It was intense!". The above comment nails it..this is just him being him.

he just wants himself in VR so it can be trained to be a better actor and seduce more wewmans

Welp. Star Trek reboot #4 needs a Kirk. I would rather have Patrick Stewart convert his likeness to VR. The Shat looked in pretty rough shape the last time I saw him w/o tons of makeup on.

You're right - It's not 100% Newsworthy, but it is a 100% William Shatner-like quote. Maybe we could say "It's Dead, Jim" !!!

The world will be a much shitter place after we lose Bill. William Shatner is so very William Shatner.

LOL watched the video.. and what really made me laugh was him saying the cost of the project was under $100,000.. and you see one system setup.. and from my now own experience getting my vive pro setup.. cost seems about right

hahahahaha

I still haven't tried any of the VR headsets, but I'd love to try one out with a flight sim. Maybe this winter I'll finally bite the bullet and just pick one up.

Of course it would be intense for most 87 year olds.
As people get older, they have more problems with motion.

I'm not even at retirement age, and I'm already having problems with 3d games.
The little bit of VR I've tried has convinced me I'll never be able to play and VR games.

whats a good horror game to try? im just starting to look into the software gonna try skyrim VR this weekend and another one called the gallery episode 1
Don't really know, not my type of game. Stuff freaks me out too badly.

I hate to say it but I agree with him. Some VR experiences are extremely intense...
Yeah, some of the scary titles are pretty good. 2D is not even comparable to VR in the immersive quality.
Seeing Shatner in VR would be scary as well. Maybe offset it with some 7 of 9?

Kirk ain't wrong guys. I absolutely believe you could give someone PTSD using VR, albeit with less severe symptoms. You are still exposing them to something traumatic and mainly engaging two of their 5 senses but still, your animal brain, which is mainly the problem in PTSD, only interprets sensory input and very basic thought process. Things like pain, monster, bad, death scared. You try a VR experience where you are murdered by clowns and I guarantee some people will have some physiological symptoms, (maybe an involuntary increase in heart rate) when they see a real clown. It's a spectrum, obviously, but it's still reality.

he's 87 give him a break! I've put it on some 60-70 year old's who freaked out too. I can't even finish batman cause I heard the scarcrow part is intense

Paranormal Activity and The Exorcist are both pretty freaky. Both are a bit short though.

LOL. I'm 72 and I'm half way through Doom on Ultra Violence. My son is on the final boss, while I'm at the top of the tower. I'll go visit a little later and watch him do the boss. I'm not sure I like VR as I can sit here with my 30" screen and basically relax and play without having to move my head much at all.

That will be after I wander up the mountain about 3 miles and not quite 800' vertical. Just for fun. ;)
