So far, the absolute best thing about the current 2080 / 2080Ti situation is it convinced me to spend my disposable income on other things. Specifically, in the last week I finished my M1A build, bought a bunch of storage to upgrade my NAS, build a new NAS media server and add more nvme and large capacity SSD's to my systems. I even splurged on some hardware RAID gear I had previously convinced myself I didn't want. I sure don't need it, but, I'm curious as to what 12GB network card and a 12 disk SSD RAID 0 will do. I'm going to find out.

Same, I'll be shopping for a SxS this month and skipping this gen essentially paid for the trailer I'll need.

I don't think I've ever been an early adopter. Will grab a 30 series depending how raytracing pans out.

What I have seen very little discussion on is the difference in 12FFC vs 16nm, TSMC claims gate shrinkage but I have seen no data on this yet.
What I'm getting at is to work out how much of that die is RT cores and how much is actual GPU we usually compare.

I'll just wait a couple more generations and run what I have.
AMD and Nvidia don't need my $.
I don't need their latest offerings to make a living.

I believe David Kanter said it was mostly marketing... My guess is ~10% higher overclocks. Maybe most 2080s can hit 2150-2200 MHz.

Depends on the benchmarks and/or how well the 1080ti plays Cyber 2077 at 1440p.

I found out what not buying an RTX 2070 does for my RAID 0 . . .

. . . what can it do for you?

In the future digital rules all things. That is a problem when prices keep going up thinking its actually worth what you pay for it. Since I can't preorder a card going to wait until the 14th for benchmarks.

Even if I could afford one I won't touch Nvidia products right now.

I voted to wait, but 2080ti is not completely out of the equation.

I actually wanted to get the Titan X before my trip to the US was confirmed to be cancelled, so I had to 'settle' on an 1080 instead (this was a good year before 1080ti was even confirmed). So if 2080ti can be had for $999, might be tempted.

Review pending, and also depends on the fate of the PG278Q I recently had to send back to Asus for repairs.

I just picked up an evga 1080. I might step up if the 2070 is faster but otherwise probably not. It's a shame sli seems to be losing support otherwise I'd just pick up another 1080 on the cheap and skip this generation at least.

I'll keep an eye out on the performance but really the cost is so high it had better be perfect and it isn't so far as I am seeing. HDMI 2.1 has 4x bandwidth. It's a game changing update. Sadly DP 1.4 is great, but TV's will never implement it. I realize it's new but unless the Board partners implement it (possible way they could get a leg up on Nvidia's 2 fan cards), I just can't get comfortable with the price vs the short lived nature of HDMI 2.0b. Performance is seriously in question and if RT won't "perform" well enough to be useful at 4K res then I'm never likely to even turn it on. I don't really use AA at 1440 and surely won't at 2160, so DLSS is nice but pointless. I want what this card may not give, which is 90 fps @ 4K or 75 fps at "5K" (5120x2160 widescreen).

My requirements are surely not the same as others. But I do want to be able (HDMI 2.1) to use the card in the livingroom to game at 4K and I do want high FPS at 4/5K on a monitor. The pricing is pretty crazy, and while I can manage the cost, it is serious enough that the thing had better hit a lot of my "must have's" or it just won't be worthwhile.

Want to see the results, etc, etc. 1080Ti isn't really cutting it for 4k 60Hz cutting edge games, and I really don't want to do SLI again.

If I do, I will wait for the standard non-Founder's editions.

Yeah.. hard for me to resist 30-60% faster and another 50% for DLSS games... but need reviews. Look for a high power limit IMO. 750mm^2+ GPU die will need it.

Well I waited long enough and pulled the trigger on the Evga 1080Ti 2x Super duper fast ass flasher FTW OMG WTF Black SC. My EVGA 980Ti SC2+ Damn Fast Booby Flasher WTH Classified just can't get over 30 fps and hold except in WoW, and that was at 45-50 in 4K. Playing Destiny 2 in all its gorgeous glory at 4K and not one stutter. AC:Origins ran at 28-30fps at 4k everything cranked on the 980Ti. Now getting a steady 45fps and quite playable. The minimum frame on the 1080Ti sits at 35 where as the 980Ti was at 22. Not much, but enough that I can enjoy this game without the stuttering I had before. Very impressed.

If the 2080 beats the 1080Ti by more than 10fps-15fps in this particular game, than yeah, the step up program will be worth the additional $200. 2080Ti is way off the books at an additional $600+ (paid $649 for the 1080Ti). I really think we are going to see an SLI push again by Nvidia again in upcoming newer games. Helps clear old 1080 inventory and a big upgrade for the new cards. Makes sense really.

Yeah, I think the fact that they brought NVLink to the 20-series means they may have some investment in keeping SLI alive.

If it works, maybe 1440p or even 4K ray-tracing is possible.

Personally, I think NVLink still being on the top two cards just means they know people want it for FPS and 3DMark records. Have people seem the Quadro reference boards yet to compare them?

As intriguing as ray tracing is, I'm going to wait till the 7nm refresh before I think about upgrading. If I was on something like a 780 GTX though I'd definitely grab a Turing.

Waiting on AMD, even if I don't buy the AMD part, which means the only purpose it serves is to drive down the price on 20-series. :D

I was hyped to pick up a 20 series GPU to replace my aging 980 Ti, until I saw the prices and realized that there are few games coming to PC this year that I would consider must buys. Even early 2019 only has Sekiro which I will play the shit out of but if it runs on the Dark Souls 3 engine I am perfectly fine with my 980 Ti. I considered selling the GPU and picking up something better used but might just hang onto it as it runs 1440p just fine.

By the time 32" 4K 120+ Hz displays are out we might have a 7nm generation coming up so I'll probably wait until then.

nVidia Performance and Performance per Dollar Compared Between Generations

Well, I flipped my last flop last night, and bought a 1080 Ti for $500 shipped.

I had an EVGA 2080 on pre-order for $760 from newegg. Been on the fence about keeping it or not, and the recent leaks made up my mind. I decided to save myself 33% of the cost in exchange for what looks like 5-10% less performance. I hope the 2080 is a solid performer, but the more I thought about it, the less palatable the price became for such small gains (if leaks are true) over current gen.

A 2nd 1080Ti would definitely be a cheaper way to go, but so few games support SLI now I don't know if I want to waste my time with it again.

Deep down inside you know it’ll end with regrets.

I'm a true hardcore PC gamer. To me, I'm duty bound to own one or two of these. Pre-ordered 2. Back in the day, I also bought 2 x 3dfx cards when they were released as well. Been at this for a minute. I plan well ahead. Financials for this expenditure were already in place. Feels good and I'm excited. Would hate to be the guy that wants one but can't save or plan ahead.

Just pre-ordered BF5 ... which I hate to admit because I do not agree with some of their decisions but looks like the best showcase for RT atm.

what is the deal with the prices !!!! half way to nearly double price from previous ti, it's getting out of hand. these are like titan prices lol. going to be quite a gap to fill even if selling my 1080ti. i dont see myself affording it at this moment. thinking my 1080ti will last me a good while longer anyway at 1440p.

Let them rot on the shelves, after some time Nvidia will realize the price is too high or they are really capacity constrained and thus the high price. Just wait this generation out since your at 1440p anyway and your current card will run it just fine.

Pre-orders seem to be selling out everywhere. So either Nvidia is having big supply problems or people are digging the raytracing hype.

I bought an open box V64, could give a shit less if Nvidia makes a card that's 100X as fast, the games I play already max out FPS on my 240hz monitor with an RX570. I voted with my wallet, not that it matters a single bit in the massive ocean of Nvidia sales.
