Microsoft has terminated its Surface financing program for consumers. Originally introduced in August 2017, “Surface Plus” allowed individuals to buy new Surface Pros for $34 per month for 24 months; Surface Laptops for $42 per month for 24 months; and Surface Books for $63 per month for 24 months. Those who are already enrolled will see no changes and can continue making payments as planned.

The business version of this program, known as Surface Plus for Business, doesn't seem to be shutting down -- at least based on its web page. I've asked Microsoft why it decided to shut down the Surface Plus program. No word back so far. I'm wondering whether Microsoft may be moving Surface Plus financing to another financier, such as Dell Preferred, which is the company behind the Xbox All Access financing program.

I wonder why a monthly fee for a computer is not working out for Microsoft? What could be the problem?

It says a lot about the people running Microsoft. They really thought they could be like Apple and that plebs would shell out monthly payments for the privilege of owning overpriced, disposable hardware (complete with advertising on the desktop!).

I wonder why a monthly fee for a computer is not working out for Microsoft? What could be the problem? After all, the economy is doing fine and unemployment is so low.

Sorry, degrees in Gender Studies doesn't generate money. Whoduthunkit?

Regardless of economics, the concept of advertising based on "monthly fees" is always for the mentally retarded fucktards of America.

Only the dumbest of the dumb fucks can say "Ohhhh... $2,000 I can't afford that! Oh? $100/month for 24 months? I CAN DO THAT!!!" The American consumer - and consumers in general - are just butt-fucking retarded. It's the entire reason our economy hinges on the concept of stupid adults not knowing basic economics.

Yeah the amount of times I've heard people going on about 'specials' and 'sales' as reasons to buy some useless trinkets, at places that are perpetually rolling sales for marketing reasons, I roll my eyes.

Coupled with the "I HAVE to have it NOW" mentality of recent generations makes for a dangerous combo. Sadly, doing without for a couple of years while the savings pile up is a foreign concept to a lot of folks.

I agree with the OP that Microsoft could be switching program providers for the financing aspect. If an economic downturn happens, far better from Microsoft's perspective for Dell Preferred or someone else to be left holding the debt from hundreds or thousands of Surface buyers who can no longer make those monthly payments.

mathes r h4rd..

don't forget about the people that pay minimum monthly payment on their credit cards w/interest and then wonder why after 3 years they're still paying off that 2000 dollars they spent even though they've paid 3k+ dollars, lol. (i have plenty of these types in my family)

Just don't bail them out when they come asking for money.

Of course if it wasn't for all the people like this, paying lots of interest on their cards, I wouldn't be able to get a free credit card that pays me cash back. :D
Thank them for the free cash back and making it possible for me to have a free 30 day float on my spending.
I always pay the full balance each month, so no interest charges and I get to keep the money in the bank for a month while I wait for the next bill.

Anyone that phones up for repairs on MS Surface or Apple Air products just gets turned away nowadays.

They chose...poorly.
