Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida finally addressed the lack of cross-play with other consoles while giving a speech at the IFA technology show in Berlin. He said that the PlayStation 4 was the "best place to play" and that they had already allowed some cross-platform with the PC and others. This limited choice was done to keep the best user experience for PlayStation 4 gamers. This was a nice way of saying that the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch were inferior to the PlayStation 4. At least he holds the glorious PC Master Race in high regards!

"On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that's our belief," he said. "But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform."

It's not just their stance on cross-play/cross-platform, but the fact they literally lock accounts to their platform.
This is a big problem. I have friends that I used to play with that got a PC, and now they can't transfer their account. Other people are logging in to the PS4 to party up with friends, then finding they can no longer play on the Switch or PC. It's dumb. All for the "best user experience."

It's exacerbated by the fact people keep bringing up cross-play while engaging in whataboutism (Microsoft once did it, too!) while completely ignoring the fact that locking something like an Epic account is simply inexcusable in this day. Bethesda has made it clear with Legends that it's non-negotiable not only to have cross-platform play but cross-platform progression.

We have found that the current situation is the best for our wallets player experience. We will not change this until it costs us sales our competitors offer the same glorious play experience we do or pay enough money to get an exemption.

A glimpse back at the first draft of the statement.

PC and PS4 crossplay hasn't been too much of an issue in the past, it's adding XBOX to the equation that creates headaches with Sonys decision...

Up until Fornite, pretty much every PS4/PC I have has been pretty smooth with character transfers and shared gameplay.

Wouldn't it be practical to consider asking what their user base wanted instead of assuming what is actually the base user experience??

SONY FTW! You'll still be buying their games.
Nope. I haven't bought a Sony game in like 8 years and my PS3 has been gathering dust for about 7 years. Sony was great in the PS1 and PS2 days, not so much since then. #PCMasterRace

Note I am not a Sony hater (solely). I have never owned a Microsoft console and the last Nintendo console I bought was a N64 (GameBoy Color for the handheld).

How about you let the game development and users decide... I'm pretty sure you can choose to only match with users on the same platform on Fortnite if that is how you wish to play....

Also, the Fortnite locking accounts to PS4....
I bought a PS4 at launch because it was supposed to be the BEST gaming console. About 6 months later all my friends were buying Xbox One, so I bought one . Way better user experience. Heck, some games can now be played on both XBOX One and PC without buying two copies, cross platform Fortnite, no problem, external drives, no problem, game stream from Xbox to a PC on your network, no problem... The list goes on... I have my PS4 to my mom...

Sony is out of touch with reality
The sad part is , that Epic is cooperating with this crap , Fortnite is the most popular game today and brings in tons of cash, they should have told Sony to go shove it.
inb4 Japs ban Epic lol

The relative success of the exclusives on Sony's platform sure have made them arrogant.

I remember not so long ago, Sony wanted Cross Platform play and a certain Company told them to fly a kite, how times quickly change, since that company is now begging for Cross Platform play lmao.

I'll say the same thing I said last time. I don't fault them for a second. They are currently in a position of power, and enabling cross play for one would mean they need to enable it for all. Now for MS and PC that isn't as big of a deal, but for nintendo it is a far bigger problem. Look like the switch all you want, but nintendo continues to have an absolute shitfest for an online experience. That said the only thing I really fault them for is the locking of accounts to the platform. That to me is lowkey bullshit.

Beyond that I can't say I care much. The games I play on console aren't the game i want to play on my PC. I really don't play much multiplayer anything on a console. Platformers and RPG's are about it. Anything that requires skill is PC only.

Those exclusives are selling consoles. To the tune of 3:1 compared to the Xbox One. Sony is absolutely dominating the console market this generation and it has gone to their heads.

Again, people aren’t upset about the lack of crossplay. They are upset with Sony and Epic commandeering accounts simply by linking to ps+.

When diabloiii comes out on switch, am I going to need to create a new bnet account because I linked my PS4 diabloiii game to my decades old bnet account?

Yeah, I'd say locking accounts to the ps4 version of Fortnite is crossing the line. Don't want to allow crossplay? That's fine. Forcing users to create a new account if they play on another platform? That's shady.
