The Los Alamos National Lab has a new video on the future of warfare. In the future, warfare will be fought over information using cyber-attacks to disrupt national economies, communications and information. Protecting information in an unhackable way using quantum communication is imperative to winning the war.

Warfare has always been about exerting political will--and technology has always played a key role in doing that. Today, science and technology are being used to exert political will far from the traditional battlefield. Adversaries are exploiting space, cyberattacks, biology, and other emerging technologies to significantly disrupt the systems underpinning our society--including telecommunications infrastructure, power grids, public health systems, transportation systems and financial institutions. In short, an adversary can gain advantage without ever firing a shot. Are we prepared for the future of warfare?

I mean there is a counter argument that hacking ignorant, uneducated people who know nothing is just as good. Can't use people who can barely function.
 
Horse Shit - Nukes will always be there to support this notion and protect information as well...But they also need info protection so its a vicious circle.
 
There was an old fantasy book that explained why mages never fought alongside armies. The explanation was the first mage casts a spell.. The second casts a counterspell.. the first counters the third.. While all the mages are casting spells the guys with swords come along and chop them all up.

Take spell and replace with "cyber". Same difference.

Every time I read one of these all I can think of its the truism that a computer can't work when you break it. Physical war is always going to exist in primacy to computerized war.
 
it will most likely be fought over land, water, oil, not living in a dump like it is now. Sure the real people pulling strings in the world may fight over info or continue to steal secrets/plans/blueprints etc...

you could say war for the last 4k+ years has been fought over information. 99% of the population up until the 1700-1900s were not given educations, often had no written language, could be executed for having or reading books etc.

I highly doubt that's even possible - even quantum encryption still has a need for classic communication, meaning some kind of connection to a classic network, hence a potential attack vector into ones computers.

Credit Card information, Bonds, Stocks, secret documents ect. All useless when the bombs fall from the sky. The future of Warfare will be what it has always been about, resources. The basics of human survival, too many people, not enough resources to go around.

Why not just say, 'Give us big grant money, bitches, and we mean REALLY big grant money, or you're fucked and we're blaming it all on you. And while we're at it, all scientists working on quantum computing need private expense accounts for Chinese food and massage therapy.'"

This is why Mars will win - they have no resources, and it's a lot easier for them to move a huge fucking rock out of their gravity well and into ours.
 
Until they manage to do that without maintaining near absolute zero temps constantly then I will believe them......

Unless something has developed that I have missed.
 
Not much new here that hasn't happened in most past wars. French Resistance in WWII did most of the listed activities. The whole Enigma and "Midway has Water problems" thing. Mata Hari. Sun Tzu had several comments on spies and mis-information.

So sick of all these know-nothings talking about "Cyber" this and "Cyber" that. Dipshits act like this is a new thing omg watch out! Sorry bombs that wipe out entire towns still matter.
