I was looking for my Nascar Racing 2003 disc and couldn't find it. Found the box and manual, but the disc I knew was in a rack somewhere but just wasn't finding it.. I checked the price on Ebay and holy Jeezus. $70-$200 and there is only a few on there.. I never really realized it was only out for 6 months before EA took the franchise. I know it is the base code for Iracing and very popular.. Luckily I located the disc, and then relocated it in the box with the manual

Are there any others that demand crazy money? I found Daytona USA, NFS II and Screamer II in the same place

A lot of classic PC games are worth a lot in their original boxes, complete with all the inserts (manuals, advertisements, etc.) Unique/memorable boxes like the Eidos "trapezoid" boxes for Thief/Thief 2 have extra value because the packaging was cool (in addition to the games being classics in their own right.) If the boxes are still sealed, the value triples or quadruples. I don't really have the budget to collect the good stuff, and I threw away all my boxes like a dummy back in the day, but I come across stuff from time to time. I bought a sealed copy of Starfleet Command 2 (2001) on Ebay for ~$50 a few months ago.

I have all of the boxes for the retail games that I bought, thankfully. But some manuals are missing.

NASCAR Racing 2003 Season is so expensive because of its limited run, modability, and community. Not all old games are going to cost as much. Another one that fetches a lot of money is Resident Evil 2 Platinum, which can go up for up to $250.

If an old game is NISB I'll pay up to original retail for it. I recently picked up Wolfenstein (2009) and Prey (2006) in such a condition for $30 each and they came as advertised.

Those games are still within the window where you can still somewhat readily find sealed copies with ease. Once you start going back over 20 years, the rarity of a sealed copy starts bringing the value way up. Obviously popularity of the title plays a role, too. It's the same with console games. I was able to pick up sealed copies of games like the original Splinter Cell (2002) for around $30, but a sealed copy of Knights of the Old Republic goes for around $120. It's way over original retail because it's both popular and rare.

Eventually though, even the less popular games will go up in value simply because the rarity factor moves to the forefront.

Yeah super nintendo games can be expensive as well. I have Home Improvement. I got it as a bargin game 20 years ago. I bet it was $1 or so. Current pricing puts it at $40ish and its a horrible game. But common games are cheap.

As others stated, it tends to be older, cult classic games that get the high prices. There are plenty of extremely rare games out there which you couldn't get more than a couple dollars on eBay.

Heh I sold a terrible game, Congo Bongo, for the freakin Intellivision console a couple years ago for $350. Collectors be crazy.

I have a decent pile of older PC games still hanging around but mostly without boxes. The ones with boxes are 3-1/2" and even some 5-1/4" floppies that I'm sure have long been corrupted.

We all have different hobbies. Chances are, at some point or another, someone thought something you bought was a complete waste of money, whatever you spent for it. As for collectors, the manuals and the boxes are really the most important.

I do have a Commadore 64. But that wasnt too expensive 5 years ago when i got it

You don't even wanna know how much cash I blew to replenish my N64 collection....

(don't break up with your GF before retrieving all your belongings! Lost my N64 + over 20 games and a brand new 32 inch CRT TV in 2005)

A couple of years ago I sold a copy of Brigandine for the PS1 for $85 dollars on Ebay. A friend of mine gave it to me while cleaning out his storage. I'd never even heard of it, apparently its pretty sought after.

Look what I found. Pretty sure I never completed 1 lap in those games driving the right way.

I've regularly spent $200-$500 on 30 year old toys (Transformers, to be exact). I'm positive a lot of people think that is stupid.

Nioce.

I had some great Transformers when I was a kid (late 80s generation).

Do you have the Megatron that transforms into an actual gun????

(I have the Transformers 1986 movie poster framed on my wall)

I do. It's between a grade 6 & 7 MIB. Top flap on the box is loose, styrofoam insert is a little chewed up, corners a little worn, and stickers faded. I do believe it is a first run Hasbro UDM from 1986, though. I also have both TFC #6 and MP-05 that I got with no molestation from customs enforcement (no orange cap on the barrel, etc.).

Well, you're doing collecting right. The stuff that becomes crazy expensive are the items only a few ever bothered to save, not the Super Limited Edition of only 10 billion copies that seem so common today. Once companies start coming out with "Collector's Editions", you know the market has become too saturated.

I was thinking about how Steam and Win XP will work. Since tons of games that have Steam release don't work correctly in anything above Windows XP, but they are dropping XP support. Do I install Steam on my XP partition, and then lock it offline forever? I'm mainly thinking about games like GTA III- San Andreas. I have them on Steam release but all of them do not run very well on the modern hardware, since it has to run in compatibility mode.

It's not like Steam is going to magically stop working on WinXP, they just won't be updating it anymore.

NR2003 is arguability still the best simulator ever written. The code is at the heart of iRacing, though it has been massively modified over the years. The core simulation is still in there.

I miss m;y nr2003 league days.
