Elon Musk’s Kid-Submarine Was “A PR Stunt,” Thailand Cave Rescue Diver Says

I think a later report came out showing how Musk pumped water into the cave after the boys and coach went in to set this whole thing up.
Was that before or after he had the British diver move to Thailand for the pedo coverstory.

remember
pedo does not mean pedo, truth does not mean truth, up is down, black is white

Of course it would rely on a rescue team that is deployed within an appropriate time frame. But yes, any open sea rescue operation could be a perfect opportunity to employ such a device.

Better yet, use them to augment life boats, like escape pods from a sci-fi movie.

They would work better for a surface vessel as submarines are a trickier use case, they are already typically running pretty deep so the escape pods would have to survive greater pressures than a sinking surface vessel.

How's that going to help anyone on a sinking boat? It doesn't have propulsion, just straps for divers to hold, and fittings to hook up an oxygen bottle.

Would it not float?

It was rushed for the job. Can it not be improved?

When the Costa Concordia "sank", (it didn't really completely sink), most of the passengers and crew were able to evacuate just fine. But rescue divers did find a Korean couple trapped in a room, and the ship's bursar was trapped and had a broken leg and couldn't escape himself. That was a massive luxury liner who's crew mostly did the right things and the ship was pretty lucky that it wasn't in much deeper waters. The point is, sometimes people will be stranded in compartments, being able to just put them in a tube and haul them out could be useful.

...

I don't think it was common knowledge that the route through the passageways wouldn't have allowed use of the sub.

Anyone with a passing knowledge of (underwater) caves would know that any bringing equipment into them can be a huge pain at the very least, let alone a hollow pipe you need multiple people for to handle. From the way he reacts publicly when he gets criticised, I'd guess that no around him dared say: "hang on, this isn't going to work". There's already the bar of contradicting a highly successful billionaire who's the boss, add to that some irritability due to being overworked and that become bar becomes "I ain't risking my job".

And this makes it automatically and obviously a PR stunt?

It's not a problem that Musk wanted to help kids, what is a problem is that he built something where peoples lives are on the line that had zero chance of working simply cause he either didn't bother to do any research or he didn't bother to listen to the experts. And I think that better articulates why people have a problem with it. And if you were in a tense situation where peoples lives were on the line and some guy shows up and tries to give you something that doesn't even fit, ya you would probably be frustrated cause everyone there is like trying to work hard and think this through and get it right and some guy is just like hurr durr I just threw this together in my pool and he is in the way distracting people. I totally get it I have been in situations that are tense and had people who had not a single clue what they were doing impede progress or slow things down cause they want to help. I get it you want to help, but if you don't do what people need to help effectively you just need to not do anything.

I would have been more impressed if musk was out there making som tom or some other labor job than when he tried to make a sub that was never going to work in the first place cause he didn't even ask if it could fit through the passages. The point is if you want to help do so, but ask the people who know what they are doing how you can best help and offer your resources if they say hey that's awesome we could use a capsule of these dimensions then sure go ahead and build it. If they say we just need someone to haul buckets of dirt then do it.

Look I get it, being an meglomaniac has its place, trump, jobs, musk all successful people who believe their own shit no matter what. That's OK when you are burning through your money or some shareholders money that took a calculated risk, its not ok when peoples lives are on the line.

As a side not this sort of reckless nature with lack of research could be part of the reason that musk is running out of money when you just build whatever and ignore the experts or don't hire them, well you might spend a lot of time and money learning lessons other people already know.

A reach to bump this thread that has seemingly backfired. This is some pie in the face stuff. It really starts to give credence to the idea re: Musk having a cult of personality.

It's the posting it all on twitter which causes one to not quite rid oneself of the suspicion.

No, it's far more likely that his mind is still in this loop of announcing Big Ideas and receiving praise, resulting in some more Big Ideas ... and so on. After all, that's what he's done for several years.

Musk has a cult of personality, that's true. There are people who will defend him even when he does something wrong.

He also has a cult of hatred - people who criticize him for things he didn't do.

I can't tell which is bigger.

And this first part is not true.

What "first part" are you referring to? Are you suggesting Musk did even cursory research or had an honest discussion with an expert before building his child torpedo? Or is it just that you don't think his actions are a problem? If it's the latter that's not a "true" or "false" thing, it's like... your opinion... man.

Yes he was in contact, that is what I am saying.

I can't say that I've followed him so closely.

I'll relent and cease challenging your opinion (y)

Looks like Elon is being shitty again.

He’s gonna get sued so hard.
