iOS 12 Public Beta

omg all the re-springs. messages is infuriating lol.

I haven't had any problems with Messages or re-springs.

The one annoying problem I've had with Public Beta's 3 and 4 is that the YouTube app has become almost unusable. I will open the app and watch a video, but when I go to watch a second video and switch to and from landscape mode, the app crashes. It basically turns the app into a one video per-use app. It's forced me to remove the app entirely and start using the webapp, and to be honest I think I like that more.

I have some re-springs but none that were consistent with primary applications from Apple. The only slightly buggy ones have been mail and phone when using visual voicemail.

Shit, this update really will kill my ipad air.

IOS 11 has half killed it already, 12 will be the final nail in its coffin, only if I don’t want to be affected by security holes.

Fuckin apple, I like their shit, but I hate their prices.

Argh, what to do.........

My iPad Mini 3 runs better with the beta of iOS 12 than it did with iOS 11. The Mini 2/3 has the same CPU as the Air and iPhone 5, so they experience should be similar.

Developer Beta 9 out today. Hopefully this one won't get pulled!

Developer Beta 10 and Public Beta 8 both released today.

No way in hell am I putting beta anything on my iPhone 8. I’m guessing something in the ToS says they don’t have to honor their warranty if a beta iOS bricks my phone.

A beta will not brick you warranty. And I'd be surprised if they put anything in their ToS to void your warranty if you run their official public beta. It's not like you're running the developer beta without a developer account.

The beta experience with iOS 12 has been my best so far, I've been running betas (either public or developer) for major iOS releases since iOS 7.

Had that same update notification bug starting to pop up today, but then there was Public beta 10 that seems to have fixed it.

Yup. Downloading Public Beta 10 now. Developer Beta 12 out too.

Thanks for the update. I guess my iMac is losing support as well. Which is irritating as I always felt that the 6970 should've received Metal support from the beginning. It's an arbitrary line in the sand.

Really? You guys got a link on this info?

I'm surprised to see any Intel based Mac go off MacOS support.

The minimum hardware models have been known for quite some time now.

10.14 requires Metal, which requires Intel HD/Iris 4000 or higher, AMD GCN based or newer, or Nvidia Kepler based or newer
  • MacBook with Retina display: All models
  • MacBook Pro: mid-2012 or newer
  • MacBook Air: mid-2012 or newer
  • Mac Mini: late-2012 or newer
  • iMac: late-2012 or newer
  • iMac Pro: late-2017 or newer
  • Mac Pro: late-2013 or newer (plus mid-2010 and mid-2012 models with Metal capable GPU)
My iMac will be unsupported. I have a late-2009 model with a Radeon 4850. It's served me very well until this point. I may tinker around with attempting to run 10.14 once they figure out how to get it to work on unsupported models. But if that fails I may just end up installing Linux or some FreeBSD on it and running it until it fails.

Sounds like a driver thing. Killing machines off over a driver is BS if you ask me.

Maybe a third party or freeware deal will crop up.

I have a mini too. I think it’s later than 2012.

Yea, you're not wrong. Apple has been doing this for a really long time now. They'll say it's so they can maintain a good customer experience with newer version of their software. They're certainly not the only software/hardware makers to do this, but they're probably a little more on the aggressive side.

Hopefully it will be released to the public in a week. They did that with the Iphone X and IOS 11.

The IPSW files are already making their way to torrent trackers. I already removed the beta profile from my phone. Don't want to accidentally upgrade to the 12.1 beta, that happened to me with iOS 10 and I was stuck on that beta channel for a while.

Anyone using IOS 12 GM on an iPad Pro (original version, I think)? Any issues. All my devices are still on 10.x and I fully intend to go to 12, but just want to make sure there aren't any showstoppers. Undecided if I should do that with my 6s+ or 6, though I've heard performance is comparable to 10.x

I upgraded my iPad Pro (original 9.7") and iPhone 6 to iOS 12 on Monday and have encountered no issues on either one.

iOS 12 for me so far has been about a 25-30% battery life reduction. I have a 6s for a specific and repeatable use and from 100%, with low battery mode on, I could squeeze about 4.5 days out of it on iOS 11. With 12 I barely hit 3 days.

How long have you had it installed on the device? I've read that at first it chews through the battery while doing some sort of indexing. I only installed it on my ipad, but I haven't noticed a change from iOS 10.3.3

On my phones, I'm sticking with 10.3.3 for now, though I will sell the 6 once i activate the XS Max.

I installed it on the 6th or 7th of September, when the GM leaked out. I would agree that after the first or second charge it kind of finds the steady state of charging after iOS updates, that's why I waited a month to post because I wanted to give an opportunity.

I do notice that under battery "screen off" always says 0. Is that normal?

Mine has 8m, but I don't know what that means, because clearly my iPad is off more than 8 minutes a day (and, for that matter, more than 8 minutes most hours), so I really don't know what it means.

To update my own post, I did a settings reset on the device (without wiping data) and set my power saving settings back up. I seem to be back up to about 4 days per charge now.

I had an issue where using the GPS would cause data go die. I could reboot or go into airplane mode for a while and it'd come back. Ended up backing up my phone and doing a restore to the same image. I may have done a factory reset in between, but given that I was using the same settings, I have no idea why that fixed it.
