Cracked my first phone screen

Well, it finally happened. After paying for insurance AND bulky phone cases for years I finally said heck with it and used my Samsung S8 with only a bumper. It got some nicks on it over time but today I finally cracked it bad enough that I don’t want to use it anymore. Ended up buying a OnePlus6 with that 15% eBay coupon for under $500 so it’s not a total financial disaster.

Question though - what do you guys do with a phone with a cracked screen? I’m not going to repair it myself (as that looks crazy hard) and I’d rather buy a new phone than pay to fix this one. I know I can’t trade it in anywhere for anything. Do I just chuck it in the trash? Or can I get something for it?

Just send it to one of the million phone repair shops for a new screen.

Dude, I already ordered another phone. I’ve never cracked a phone before so I’ve always ended up trading/selling. I figure there’s SOMETHING I can do with it. Google search results were less than impressive so thought I’d ask.

Yeah just get the screen replaced then you can sell it or use it as a backup or whatever.

I could use a newer phone, I'll pay shipping for it but I'm going to presume if you ordered a new device then the S8 you damaged is basically non-functional at this point. :D

As for getting it repaired, whether it's the glass/digitizer or the actual OLED won't matter: newer display tech is fused so it means they have to replace it all and for the Samsung stuff with OLED panels, it's $200+, sometimes $300+ depending on the model.

Recycle it. Or try selling it. Someone might buy it and fix it.

It actually works fine, damage is all up in the right corner. Looks like it’s worth between $26 and $53 at either Walmart or BestBuy for trade in.

If it's useable you can always sell it on Craigslist or something. Someone will buy it.

Yeah, it's still worth selling if it's cracked, as I'm sure there are people out there willing to replace the screen and flip it for more or just use it as is. I would be tempted to buy it from you just to fix and flip it or give it to my son who's using a nearly wore out (battery capacity down to like 60% and screen has horrible burn in) S7 actually. I've seen enough Samsung phone tear downs and repaired enough other sealed phones to be comfortable enough to fix it at least as long as parts aren't too expensive for it.

But anyways, Samsung phones are the most fragile phones on the market due to their curved edges and minimal bezels, so it's nearly a matter of time before you break one if it's not in a proper case. Literally everyone I've personally seen try to use one without a case or with a really small/weak one has cracked their Samsung phones somewhere at some point.

Whatever you do , I would put a Whitestone Dome glass protector on the new phone. It is definitely worth the money for the protection.

Someone around here has bought it. Truth about Samsung phones, the design was great but too fragile for me apparently.

if my phone is old enough, I just leave it and try to live with the crack screen. Better saving up money to buy a new one than fixing the screen. It's my opinion.
