According to a spokesperson from HP, NVIDIA’s Big Format Gaming Displays are going to be significantly more expensive than even the most high-end monitors and OLED televisions: Hardware.info was told at GamesCom that the displays were not only delayed until Q1 2019, but that they would cost 4,000 EUR ($4,653) to 5,000 EUR ($5,816).

In January, NVIDIA announced Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGD). This new standard of monitors is to extend G-Sync HDR ecosystem into much bigger displays. The main idea behind BFGD is low latency, great color reproduction, high dynamic range, high refresh rate, and of course, a big format. The main issue though is lack of supported display connector standards.

Sounds like Nvidia wants to be Apple. The cost of their new RTX video cards are really expensive. These TV's are way too expensive.

I think Nvidia should stop trying to be like Apple. Charging way too much!

ya know.... ive not bought ATI/AMD for many many years.
im starting to rethink it simply based on nvidias latest practices and its got nothing at all to do with their actual products.

its the same reason i went xbox instead of playstation and also why i dont buy apple products.

That's crazy high. I'll stick with my 4k Samsung 40 inch a bit longer. I would like to have a gsync monitor for 4k. Would want something in the 32-40ish size. 65 is just to big for a gaming display. I like sitting down to play at a desk. I play on my JVC RS620 some times, but mostly stuff I don't have to use a mouse and keyboard for. For that money you could get a top OLED and a nice gaming rig lol. Well with out a 2080 card lol

How do you like that JVC RS620 for gaming?

My projectors an older Panasonic ae8000u, but I enjoy gaming at my desk on my 34” ultrawide more. Keyboard and mouse is too hard to give up, and I’ve never found a passable lap-desk setup.

I was contemplating this or a 75 inch Vizio M Series with HDMI 2.1 (in next years models, hopefully). I was willing to spend a bit more on the BFG because of Gsync and the built in SHIELD platform - but yeah - Vizio it is then.

Works well, I don't notice any lag. Actually seams better then my 40inch Samsung. I just upgraded to the JVC from a Epson 5040ub. Big upgrade, was really surprised at how big of an upgrade it was. My wife was even impressed at how much better it is. I'll probably keep this projector for a few years , unless something crazy comes out.

While I agree it's too expensive, it's less then I tought going by the price of the 27 inchers they just released (which in Europe are going for 2700 Euros or thereabouts).

The value really depends on how well they nail the whole package.

I'm still not sold on FALD myself, and with a 55" OLED that cost me $1200 to the door (still aghast at that) sitting in the living room, I ain't in no hurry.

But for those that want the very best, again supposing that they got everything covered, I could see the asking price being worth it.

I can't consider OLED with burn-in. Doesn't matter how minimal or unlikely. It's defective by nature IMO. Lesser black levels are subjectively a better trade off for me.

That's a very good point.

I use my TV largely for movies; I don't game in the living room, though now that I have Atmos set up, I've been considering making an attempt at tackling streaming games to my Shield. Then again, I didn't pay much for the TV, though still certainly more than you'd pay for a decent Vizio, so the possibility of burn in doesn't bother me too much. I consider the OLED a functional stop-gap.

Perhaps the micro-LED panels being produced will make better candidates? I know both LG and Samsung are slowly rolling those out.

Possibly. Samsung and Apple are on board, so that's gonna be high volume right there. It will (mature and) either succeed or fail very quickly then I think (or hope?). Always a waiting game somehow.

The question is not how much... but how good.

Don't get me wrong, I can't justify $5000 in a display but if it is perfect (it has to be for that price) then good on NVIDIA. At this time the perfect display simply doesn't exist (no matter how high your budget) and this is something that should change.

Too few specs and side-by-side comparisons absent which are essential to forming a informed opinion.

Is this an LCD display or a qdot display. Or is qdots for the backlight?
Hanging on to my current LCD until quantum dots takes over.

thought as much, so glad i got a cheap lcd tv to move on from my plasma which had served me for over 10yrs

Fuck me to tears with these tiny, expensive ass TV's. You can get a Sony True 4K 285 projector for $4000 on sale and a great screen between 100 to 200 inches for another 500-$1000. NVIDIA, WE GOT GREEDY AND LOST OUR FUCKING MINDS!

Seriously, even the JVC eshift5 4K projectors with awesome contrast are cheaper. Hell my $1700 Epson is alot more fun to game on than this shit would be. Even 4k DLP's are down between 999-$1499. (I know. I push big screen gaming. But once you do it, it is awesome. Even buying a cheaper 1080p gaming projector on 100" screen beats a monitor or TV.)

Let's see if HDMI 2.1 brings us some competition. AMD will also have to step it up with competitive cards to pair with future 2.1 displays. It sucks, but right now Nvidia can pull this type of shit.

Looking on the bright side, I am happy someone is pushing the envelope for "gaming" niche monitors at the 65" level, even if the price is absurd.

totally agree despite having a 4k hdr tv, most of my gaming is on a sony 40es 1080p projector

And for only $3500 you can get one of the top performing TVs on the market with Freesync! Samsung's QN65Q9FN! OR select from their lower end sets, which should still trump the video quality of this turd...NU8000 and up support Freesync. There is zero chance that Nvidias set will even compete in picture quality with Samsung too.

Only if you let them...I specifically bought a Vega64 due to Samsung's support of FreeSync.

Woah. This better come with a USB powered dick sucking attachment for that price. And a slot that ejects freshly toasted deli quality sandwiches.

This is absolutely nuts.

I want a 42" 4k 120hz G-Sync screen. Id be willing to pay maybe up to $1,750 if it is good enough, but this is just out there.

I already have a 48" Samsung Js9000. It's a VERY good screen apart from the fact that there is no way to exceed 60hz or adaptive refresh rates. There is no way adding these features costs several thousand dollars.
