What size memory card are you guys running? And also what brand? I heard that the 400GB cards only have 366GB space after formatting?

I think I put in a 128 GB SanDisk Ultra. Not sure about free space, most of my games ended up being physical anyway.

Same Sandisk 128 and haven't bought to many games. Still looking for a place which sells those download codes cheap. between full price digital download and physical copies that are 6 to 8 Euro cheaper not to sure about what you would need a big size SD card for.

I bought a Sandisk Ultra 200GB last March. It's around $60-70 on Amazon depending on whether they're running a sale or not.
I've grown to hate physical media and I don't buy a ton of games, so it's more than enough for me. If it starts filling up, I'll just delete Zelda which is by far the largest game I own.

Mark my words, 2018 will be the year of the physical release! JK, serious question though since I just got my first console (switch) since the xbox 360. Do you prefer the physical copy or digital. I'm thinking physical.

200GB. I initially started with 128GB.

I initially went purely digital because I thought importing games were a massive PITA and homebrew on the Switch was absolutely nowhere to be seen, so I had no idea what it can do. I might lean towards physical if homebrew can do what I can do on my 3DS (dump game carts onto the console as digital titles, save game backups and retain the ability to buy games from eShop, currently the biggest question is the latter because Nintendo is relatively trigger happy with entire console and account bans this time round).

this is currently possible to do, you can dump your physical game carts and play them backed up using one of the newer hacks. So far the only people getting banned are those that are using pirated dumps. Nintendo can track when multiple copies of the same game cart are being used but if your using your own legit dumps (and not selling them afterwords while using your backup) then your safe.

Thanks, would this be using Team Xecutor's solution, and if I were to do this, would I be limiting myself to using SX OS exclusively?

Not that I actually mind that solution, it's just that from what I heard, Nintendo had ways to track if unsigned software was run on the Switch via its error logs and had banned people this way (I could be VERY wrong on this), but that seem to be only affecting HB apps run natively on the Switch's official OS, haven't heard anything about people being banned for SX OS.

OK, part of the reason for the space discrepancy is a stupid thing that happens in computers when it comes to advertising disk space.

Companies report space via 1000 bytes/kilobyte, 1000 kilobytes/megabyte, 1000 megabytes/gigabyte, etc., but computer hardware reports it as 1024 bytes/kilobyte, 1024 kilobytes/megabyte, 1024 megabytes/gigabyte, etc.. So, your 400GB card really only has ~372 GB of space, thus, only ~6 GB is reserved for other stuff.

I'm honestly not 100% sure yet, no one really knows what triggers bans except that using pirated copies of games is for sure a main cause. From what I've read people that have been backing up their own copies haven't had issues but this early in the game nothing is a certain. For me I'm not to concerned because I don't play Nintendo games online, games like Mario kart and super smash have way to many skilled players that curb stomp me super badly so getting banned from online won't hurt my feelings. I plan on buying my switch within the next few weeks so hopefully by then we have more info on legit backups.

I'm currently in the prep stages, I've purchased a 128gb SD card and Mario + rabbids because it was on sale for $30 cad lol

I’ve only ran self dumped backups of carts I own using SX OS and tools required for the dump process and have yet to be banned. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen. I’m fairly certain that Nintendo has done a massively better job at detecting these types of things and wouldn’t expect my Switch to not get banned in the future. I’m taking precautions but doesn’t mean much. What I can say is that SX OS works well and that other free homebrew options are popping up as well. Homebrew is certainly alive and coming along well.

Don’t wait too long though as there are reports of Switch units coming to stores now that don’t have the necessary vulnerability to make custom firmware possible as they are being fixed at the factory. Some of these units are reported to be on older firmware which has its own vulnerability as long as you don’t update. Obviously it’s certainly possible these units will have a way to run homebrew in time even if you update the firmware on them, but the way Nintendo is rolling I wouldn’t count on it. Glad I got mine 6 months ago.

Also I’d recommend minimum 128gb but bigger if you can afford it especially if you ever wanna homebrew.

Picked up a used one yesterday, launch system for cheap but its in pristine condition (total used was < 10 Hours). I have my 128gb card in and my SX OS ordered, I have been reading and theres promising results of using carts you currently own and porting their certs to pirated games that way your still playing the game with a unique cert you own. I plan to go find a copy of minecraft rev2 since thats a cart2 game to use for newer cart2 roms like octopath traveler. Right now my switch came with 3 good games for my urge to pirate anything is very low and im more interested in emulators for older games on it instead.

Recent activity suggests those people are also getting bans too but hard to say if everything they say is legit. I haven’t gottrn a ban yet playing my own dumps with their certificates. They could’ve done other things but just neglected to tell us that could’ve gotten them a ban. By the way each game cart has a unique certificate buying Minecraft only gives you a legit certificate for Minecraft and nothing else. If you go using a Minecraft certificate on another game you’ll be dead in the water.

Most games are worth buying but homebrew and emulation is where it’s at. One thing is for certain though. If they ban me from the eshop I’ll feel authorized to pirate digital only releases if they don’t want me to pay for them especially if I’m just running my own legit backups. That’s on them.

Got my Ox license last night and backed up my games and this thing is awesome, way slicker to swap between my games now lol. Have you done any emulation yet with the SX OS? I got a snes emulator working very nicely with sx os and my exFat sd card, but I cant seem to find a good nes or genesis emulator that will work, I dont want to use retroarch as they have big warning about ExFat and ox os lol.

Yup the thing is awesome. You don’t need SX Pro if you don’t mind tethering to PC each time you boot the Switch up from a powered down state. I haven’t messed with anything emulation wise I only backed my nand up and dumped my games. I’m fairly certain there’s a good NES emulator available now though. I’m not aware of the issue you speak of with retroarch but seems it’s the way to go right now. I haven’t done much research on emulation though as I’ve been too busy with other projects. Emulation is definitely in its infancy in the Switch right now though but it’ll get better in due time. Switch homebrew in general is still in early stages.

Got sick of carrying a jig around and I dont want to screw up the pins on my switch so I soldered in a push button into my joycon, when you press it down it bridges pins 1+10 and so far it works great. Now I just need to build my own payload injector, for now I just use my laptop to push the SX payload and for the most part its fine. Thanks to sleep mode not burning more than 4-5% battery a dayI havent had to actually power it down until last night when SX crashed on me and I had to restart the switch so its not a big rush but its now on my todo list lol.

With my Switch I am buying 0 physical games. That was something I told myself i'd stick to if I purchased a Switch. I just filled up my 128gb card so I replaced it last week with a 200gb Sandisk card. Btw upgrading memory couldn't be easier. It's literally drag and drop off the old card and onto the new which is nice because the WIFI is hella slow on the Switch.

I put the 400GB micro sd on my wishlist because that'll be the next upgrade once the 200gb one fills up.

Why do that? Once you got SX OS on there is a option to enable RCM with out needing to bridge the pins.

I’ll pass on Auto RCM. Besides if you just leave the system suspended you don’t need to use the jig (or dongle) anyway. If you enable Auto RCM and your switch for whatever reason powers down or needs a reboot (it freezes or etc) and you don’t have your dongle with you then you can’t boot at all. If you don’t have Auto RCM enabled you’ll be able to boot into the original firmware and use the system in that scenario.

With the new SX OS you can even FTP files to the switch so there’s not much reason to ever actually have to power it down. I do get it though. It’s definitely convenient to not have to use the jig, but I usually use my Switch at home so I’d rather not use Auto RCM.

2 reasons:

1) Autorcm causes issues like stated above, if your switch battery drains while in auto rcm it's a pain in the ass recharge and takes for ever. I also occasionally launch stock firmware (after a nand restore) to play games I own legit.

2) why not? I enjoy tinkering and fixing/modding. It was a super simple mod and it's the [H] thing to do lol.

I bought the 200GB San Disk Ultra back when I got mine, and I'm generally a physical media collector (I'm a sucker for collector's editions to boot). I figure the 200GB will last me forever.

That's pretty cool, and I've thought about going down this route even with my PS4 and Xbox, but I just like having some of the steel cases for games on the shelf. I'm a little sad when the deals are way too good to pass up on the online storefronts, thereby almost forcing me to ignore the physical version. I actually had the 400GB card in my checkout way back when but I didn't think I could let go of physical media yet (I was right).

Has anyone here bought an SX Pro? I've been considering getting one but it seems hard to find a legit seller.

I use just the SX os, got it off eBay for $27. I use a self made trinket m0 trinket to launch SX.

I have one. They have an authorized reseller list on their page. Got mine from 3DS flashcard.

I've seen some people having issues with some of the sellers on that list, so I wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience with a particular one. Thanks!

They’re all pretty much slow especially the ones overseas. The ones overseas seem sketchy mostly because you place an order and receive instructions on how to pay via PayPal. It definitely seems sketchy at first but most places over in China all do it roughly the same way. They also had stock issues with it as it seems to sell out quickly and it’s possible that may still be the case. I’ve ordered things from both 3DS flashcard and digimartz over the years with no issue and wouldn’t hesitate to order from either place again. One thing is for sure though, if you wanna get it in a timely manner order from one of the US resellers else you could be waiting awhile ordering overseas.

Thanks again, I ordered one from 3DS Flashcard. Seemed quick and easy.

I had problems with a couple of the resellers on the list. axiogame.com never sent me a code and didn't respond to my emails. They finnaly responded a couple hours after I contacted the company they used for the transaction demanding a refund. They refunded but whole thing took weeks. sxflashcard.com also took my money and didnt send me a code. Again they didn't respond to my email and their live chat was aways down. I caught the last very chat at 1am and finnaly got my code. The whole proccess has been shady to me from two different companies. Don't know why we have to go through Chinese companies to just get a code. Can't excute set something up to sale codes directly?

That's honestly why I went with eBay, it's sad when I felt safer using eBay for my code instead of these sites. The only one that seemed legit was modchipdirect (will link), I haven the read any bad reports about them yet and their whole transaction process was a lot smoother. Also had 0 issues getting a refund when I decided to get just the SX license from eBay, took about 5 hours after I emailed them. (At the time eBay was cheaper lol)

http://www.modchipsdirect.com/xecuter-sx-pro.html

I ordered an SX Pro and didn’t need the code for the OS it activated just fine on its own. For just OS orders they just email the code and it’s very possible the email went in to your spam folder or etc. Either way, I’ve only used 3DS flashcard and digimartz for console items and never had any issues.

For vape gear I usually order from fasttech, gearbest and heavens gifts. All straight from China and all legit good businesses. The first two carry everything from electronics to clothes. Possible they carry console mod stuff.

With 3DS flashcard you have the option of choosing a shipping method that ships from the US so you can get stuff faster. They have a warehouse somewhere in the states. Obviously that won’t help if their warehouse is out of stock though lol.
