Windows Central has heard Microsoft might be announcing a new service later this month called Xbox All Access. The new subscription service will be a 2-year contract that provides an Xbox One S, Xbox Live, and Xbox Game Pass for $22 per month and $35 per month if you want the Xbox One X. If you've ever wanted to try out the console world you can do it with this service without all of the upfront cost. This sounds like a great idea and I bet Microsoft reels in some more console customers this way.

If accurate, Xbox All Access will debut for US customers in the near future, through the Microsoft Store and possibly other retailers. It could be the easiest, cheapest way yet to access the Xbox One family, spreading the cost out over two years, while also guaranteeing developers a boost in long-term Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, guaranteeing a larger player base on the service.

probably will help have them transition to the next xbox which (not sure if official?) will come in two versions:
a. high end console
b. streaming console with subscriptions

I hate subscriptions (also, autopay) but not to worry since I don't do game consoles. I'm strictly a PC gamer.

They did this before with the 360. Nothing new. This forces you to pre pay for Xbox live and stuff instead of people just buying cheap cards off eBay and other places.

Live, $5/mo, $120
Pass, $6.67/mo, $160

$22 x 24 months is $528 minus $280 is $248 for Xbox One S
$35 x 24 months is $840 minus $280 is $560 for Xbox One X

Wow, CBS 'All Access' is only $5 / month. I guess everybody is trying to cash in on the 'all access' name.

The rapid transition of all technology to the leech model is astounding.

Fun Fact: At my previous employer, we attempted a partnership with Sony to special finance PS4's through certain retailers, this failed spectacularly.

I don't think this 'console as a service' model will work.

Game Pass isn't a bad deal. Quite a few good games on it and they actually do surprisingly frequently add new games. And all Microsoft Studio games are available on release unlike EA's offering - and cross platform so I can play Horizon with buds on both PC and xonex.

This on the other hand seems like they are considering the cable subscription method. Force things you may or may not want on you. Then lock you into a long term contract. Not sure I love that.

I wonder if they will take the cell phone route.. and when they release a new model.. if you renew your contract, they send you the new console and you send the old one back

could be an interesting way to do things

You don't get a TV with your CBS All Access subscription. You're getting a game console with this.

I think games cycle off of Game Pass too frequently, which is one of the reasons I got rid of it after trying it out for a bit.

(I once had a buddy who "bought" a 360 at a rent-a-center.... that was depressing)[/QUOTE]
Ouch. Wonder how much that costed him in the end.

Hilarious you actually thought he was able to pay it off.

.... I think he had it for a month and a half tops.

Its always been about the software, the hardware is nice....but the software is what we run. Microsoft wants people to rent games from their sandbox and not have people buy stuff outright, used games for example. When you subscribe to this service, you can bet publishers and rights owners get a taste....a taste they wont ever see on the used game market.

Its all about keeping people playing in your sandbox. Amazon gets business because Amazon does EVERYTHING for you. If you don't NEED to go elsewhere, your lazy ass won't. See: Human Nature. Microsoft knows this......and so do all the software companies. If we sell, we sell once. If we lease, we sell on subscription and get re-ups.

Is it me or is everything becoming a monthly payment and it's kind of frightening (outside of normal stuff like utilities and loans)?

Cause it is easier to entice people to buy shit they don't need/can't afford with small monthly payments instead of large upfront sums.

Pretty much. Hardware and software is transitioning to the car sales model.

I know some people that wouldn't mind renting an xbox for $22 a month... that would likely never be able to save the $300 upfront cost otherwise. I know a younger, poorer me would be all over this.

Really not a bad deal, considering you'd own the console at the end of the term.

I don't have time for consoles anymore, but wish something like this existed when I was blowing my wad on PS2 and GameCube games back in the day.

Tone of this thread makes it seem sketch. lol

my Xbox 1S was FREE.. I had bought a Samsun 65" HDR TV for 1020 (tax included) and Dell

1. Delivered it for free
2. gave me a $275 Gift card and a $50 Dell credit

They were banking on the fact that I would buy into their minimum $22 a month payment for 2 years and they slapped with back interest.. instead I used their 12 mo interest free scheme against them and paid off the TV when the first bill came due.

When I got the xbox 1 S, they also gave me a $50 credit and that means I got a Dell 525 COLOR laser printer for all of $125...vs their normal price of $160

Why on earth would you pay an interest free loan off on the first payment?

My wife wanted to double down on payments for our Toyota, which was interest free for the life of the loan. I was all “woman you cray!”

To show them who is boss! By making sure they got their money back as soon as possible, ensuring he couldn't use that extra money to pay towards some other debt or invest it as even earning 1% over 11 months would be better. Take that, Dell.
